After a lengthy battle with drink and drugs, the 'Back To Black' singer passed away in July 2011. Winehouse enjoyed a close friendship with Doherty, with the Babyshambles star even admitting recently that the pair were lovers.

He revealed that before her passing, he and Winehouse had hoped to record some cover versions together.

He said: ''We always planned to do some Billie Holiday songs together - 'Good Morning Heartache' and 'These Foolish Things'. Whenever we'd get together with guitars, we'd go through them.''

Doherty - who is famed for his drug addictions and brushes with the law - also added that he feels "resentful" of Amy's death.

He added: ''No one got the chance to say goodbye. It was such a shock. There are so many things I'm resentful of [about the situation], but I almost feel that it's not my business. I wouldn't want to offend anyone. A few times there have been tragic deaths of my friends, and their families have made me feel less than welcome in celebrating their memory. Like I was held responsible for these deaths.''

Speaking to the Metro, Doherty said: ‘It’s almost like I’m a disappointment to some people because I’m not completely f***ed up, a dribbling mess. That person doesn’t really exist. It’s a tabloid creation and they don’t like it that I’m not like that, so they keep fuelling this fire.

He added: "They don’t want me to be at peace. They don’t want me to look good. They don’t want me to be happy. It’s got to be f***ed up, if it’s to do with me."

Doherty was rarely out of the headlines and moved to Paris to escape the constant interest surrounding his wayward lifestyle.

He revealed: "I reached the point where I was getting arrested all the time in London. I couldn’t walk down the street. London becomes a very small village eventually. You run out of places. It was inescapable."

He explained: “This is difficult for me to admit. But, yes, it’s true. Amy and I were lovers. I loved her then and, well, I still do today. But towards the end, as only lovers can, she became quite mean and cruel to me. She didn’t suffer fools… and believe me, she had a mean right hook.”

Doherty also had a tumultuous relationship with British supermodel Kate Moss after meeting in 2005. The troubled singer is glad Moss is now happily married to The Kills rocker Jamie Hince.

Doherty added: “I got a call from Kate a couple of weeks ago, which came as a surprise as we haven’t exchanged a word since it ended. And believe me, it ended nastily. But she was friendly and just asked me what I was up to. She wanted to know why I hadn’t written any songs recently and whether I was still taking drugs. She said she was staying clean and that she was very happily married.

“It came as a huge relief to hear from her and I felt a weight lift off my shoulders. It was a really important call because it put a few unresolved issues to bed for me. She told me that despite everything that had happened between us, she was still rooting for me and that was nice. It means a lot to me to know that.”

Speaking to The Guardian newspaper, the rocker explained that he was still hooked on drugs when he landed his first film job in director Sylvie Verheyde's big-screen adaptation of Alfred de Musset's classic novel, 'Confession Of A Child Of The Century'.

"It's poison but it's also medicine. When you're in that state, you can't function unless you have your fix... But I was so absorbed in the work, there wasn't a chance (to go to rehab)... I couldn't hide it from (Verheyde)."

"She didn't really care. It was just a question of how quickly I can find a vein and then let's get on with it."

The 33-year-old, who this week spoke out about his friendship with the late Amy Winehouse, told French magazine L’Officiel that he has even got an entry already lined up for the historic competition:

"I was saying to this bird the other night, 'I would love to do Eurovision'. She was going 'Nah, it's really tacky', but fuck that. I would love to do it and I would love to win it for England. I've got the song."

The controversial singer then appeared to switch allegiances when told it’s ‘tacky to say it’s tacky’ by the interviewer, declaring: "Fuck it, let's get in the Eurovision. Actually, I would like to enter on behalf of France."

The former Libertines frontman is not the first indie artist to be linked with Eurovision, with both Morrissey and Jarvis Cocker rumoured to have been in talks about penning the UK entry in recent years. 

Lindi Hingston hit the headlines recently when she claimed that her new daughter was actually fathered by the Libertines man.

In an in-depth and frank interview with the Independent, Doherty confirmed that the baby is indeed his and that he regrets not being able to make the birth.

He said that the baby was born early. He said:

"I'm really surprised she's done that [talked to a newspaper]. The little girl was two months premature. I said I'd try to be there for the birth. You know what, I don't want to talk about that."

He added: "Yeah, she's mine."

Doherty also revealed that he has stopped injecting drugs, deciding to "tone down" a bit as he continues with a new, "serious" relationship. He said:

"I've stopped injecting. The only way I see myself in a serious relationship is if I am toning it down a bit. When you're banging up all day you can't really have someone else in your life, especially if she's an English rose. I wouldn't let her touch anything, I just wouldn't."

Last year, the frontman reunited The Libertines to play the Main Stage at the event, while this year Muse took over.

Doherty made his Leeds Festival debut with The Libertines back in 2002, then was suspended from the band and missied their 2003 and 2004 appearances there. He played their 2004 show on the Main Stage and then performed twice with Babyshambles before last year’s reunion.

Friday's show had few unreleased material, but the singer played ’Stranger In My Own Skin’ – a song that has made its way into solo and Babyshambles setlists before but never officially released.

He ended the set with 'Fuck Forever’ after his cover tribute to his late friend Winehouse.

A witness saw three men break into Shadillac in Regensburg on Tuesday night and reported to police that Doherty was among them. But the Babyshambles singer denies he was involved.

“I was there, but it wasn’t me,” he told German TV network, Sat 1. 

Doherty was in Germany filming scenes for  'Confession d'un Enfant du Siecle,' in which he stars opposite Charlotte Gainsburg.

The singer has been venturing into non-musical waters of late – trying his hand at fashion by launching his own jewellery line this month – and has decided that his next foray be into film.

The Babyshambles singer will be making his big screen debut in the untitled project and will be starring alongside actress Charlotte Gainsbourg. The film will be based on the life of 19^th century writer Alfred de Musset.

Speaking to The Sun, Doherty said: "We start shooting in Paris on December 27. The story centres around a love triangle so it's pretty intense and romantic. I don't know if I'm a good actor but they say I am."

Some fans voiced their concerns that Doherty's latest project would fall apart now that he is back with Carl Barat and the rest of the group for a series of festival performances in the summer. But Babyshambles' management have confirmed troubled rocker Pete has no plans to quit the band. "Reports that Babyshambles are no more are categorically untrue."
