Beatles guitar sells for $408,000 at auction

A guitar played by George Harrison and the late John Lennon fetched an incredible amount of money at auction in New York City over the weekend.

The customized VOX guitar sold for double the predicted amount during the music auction at Times Square's Hard Rock Café on May 18 and the auction house, Julien's Auctions, explained:

"The rare offering of a VOX guitar played by both John Lennon and George Harrison is what rock & roll legends are made of."

Harrison rehearsed 'I Am The Walrus' on the instrument while Lennon used it in a video shoot for 'Hello Goodbye', both of which feature on 1967 album 'Magical Mystery Tour'.

The guitar was custom made by Mike Bennett and Dickey Denney, and was given to "Magic Alex" Mardas, an engineer at Apple Records and close friend of the Beatles, back in 1967.

Amy Winehouse, Madness and The Who to be honoured on planned London walk of fame

A walk of fame, complete with stars on the pavement, will be unveiled in North London later this year.

Camden, which is home to many musicians along with well-loved live music videos, is set to be the host for the strip and will twin with Hollywood to honour some of the UK and the world's most popular acts.

30 plaques are confirmed to be laid down and some of the first honourees will include the late Amy Winehouse, The Who and Madness.

The NME reports that acts who will be represented on the walkway are due to be grouped into the following categories: "innovative artists, influential artists, icons, unsung heroes and industry figures."

Lee Bennett, from The Walk Of Fame, told the BBC News that it's a fantastic idea to openly celebrate music in England's capital: "We hope this will be the highest accolade in music. This is an international brand not specific to Camden, but it is in Camden as we truly see it as the world's rock and roll capital."

Tony Bennett: "Lady Gaga wants to record an album with me"

Veteran singer Tony Bennett has claimed that Lady Gaga would like to make an album with him.

Bennett was speaking to the Metro when he made the revelation, stating that he spoke to her parents about the potential collaboration.

They said that Gaga would like to make a whole album with Bennett - something which he is "looking forward to". He said:

"She's a very talented person. I was with her parents recently and they said she'd like to make an album with me. I'd like to do that, too. I'm looking forward to it."

Bennett meanwhile commented on a naked sketch he drew of Lady Gaga last year for charity, which managed to raise $30,000. When asked why he did it, Bennett replied:

"It was the right thing to do. I paint every day. Some days I paint models nude – like Michelangelo when he did the Vatican. The sketch I did of her sold for $30,000 and the money went to her charity."

Amy Winehouse had all of her third album written before her death in July.

Winehouse was in no hurry to release the material. Instead she hoped to release a jazz album with a supergroup, that was to include The Roots member, ?uestlove. There were many other contributors rumoured to be involved, including the saxophone player Soweto Kinch.

Only two of these songs were recorded and will feature on her upcoming album, 'Lioness: Hidden Treasures'.

?uestlove is set to feature on one track on the album, called 'Half Time'.
