Justin Timberlake on film career: 'I choose projects depending on how much they inspire me'

'Mirrors' hitmaker Justin Timberlake has revealed that after working as an actor for a number of years now, he has learned how to pick a great film project from a selection of offers.

Speaking to The Metro, the superstar explained that he chooses movies based on how inspired he is by the script and has become really good at finding the ones that stand out: "I feel pretty good about it. I just feel as though I try to make specific choices for the projects that are inspiring to me.

"If I can continue to do that, then I'll be gratified by whatever the outcome is. The more you get to work, the more you realise the journey and the process are the parts you remember forever."

"Sometimes movies are an experience you didn't expect they were going to be. I think you hope for the best and expect the worst, and if it ends up in the middle, you're fine."

Daft Punk's 'Random Access Memories' on course to be fastest selling album of 2013

'Random Access Memories', the new album from French electro-duo Daft Punk, is the midweek No.1 in today's chart update and it is also on course to be the fastest selling album of the year so far.

The record shifted an incredible 104,000 copies as of midnight last night (May 21) in the UK and during its first 48 hours of being made available became the third fastest selling album of 2013.

Justin Timberlake's 'The 20/20 Experience' (which is at No.32 this afternoon) currently holds the record, but Daft Punk are only 1,000 copies behind so the record could soon be theirs.

There are 4 other new entries in the Top 10 this week and at No.3 is The National with 'Trouble Will Find Me', Thirty Seconds To Mars are at 4 with 'Love Lust Faith + Dreams', and Texas have made an appearance at No.5 with 'The Conversation'. Demi Lovato's new offering, 'Demi', has entered the albums chart at 6.

Jamie Cullum has debuted with his new record 'Momentum' at No.12, Paramore's self-titled new cut has dropped 10 spots to No.40, and Daft Punk's 'Discovery' has climbed 1 position to sit at No.28 after 84 weeks on the chart.

THE FLAMIN’ GROOVIES ANNOUNCE FIRST UK SHOWS IN MORE THAN 30 YEARS

June 30th – Hard Rock Calling – Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

July 2nd – Scala, London

Wednesday 22nd May – Having just completed a successful tour of Japan and Australia, The Flamin' Groovies have returned in full force! The Cyril Jordan, Chris Wilson, George Alexander line-up that rocked the UK, Europe and the US from 1971 – 1980 are back in action. With the addition of Victor Penalosa on drums the band are set to return to British soil after more than 30 years to play a show at London’s Scala on the 2nd of July following a performance at Hard Rock Calling at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on 30th June. The Flamin’ Groovies Scala tickets go on-sale 9am on Friday 24th May are available from www.livenation.co.uk or www.ticketmaster.co.uk.

The Flamin’ Groovies story goes all the way back to 1965 when the band began as the Chosen Few in their hometown of San Francisco, California. After a name change and a self-released 10 inch album called “Sneakers”, which sold amazingly well, the band caught the attention of Columbia who signed them up and sent them into the studio with a big budget to record their first real album, “Supersnazz”, on the Epic label. Their next two albums were on Kama Sutra (home of their heroes, The Lovin' Spoonful): “Flamingo”, and the now revered classic “Teenage Head”. Lead singer Roy Loney left the band right after that and lead guitarist Cyril Jordan moved the group to England with Chris Wilson (formerly of Loose Gravel) taking over as front man.

They continued their style of straight ahead guitar driven rock n' roll but this time with a more 60's rather than 50's influence. A few singles on United Artists, recorded at the legendary Rockfield Studios in Wales with Dave Edmunds producing, followed in the early '70s. In '76 they signed to Sire Records, who released three true gems of power pop: “Shake Some Action”, “Flamin' Groovies Now”, and “Jumpin' In The Night”.

Another lineup change ensued in the next decade with Wilson moving to England and joining the Barracudas. The Groovies continued on thru the 80's and into the early '90s touring Australia and Europe, putting out a fine but overlooked album called Rock Juice and then finally calling it quits. Jordan formed a new band called Magic Christian while Wilson released solo albums in Europe.

Now in 2013, Jordan, Wilson and original founding member and bass player Geroge Alexander, have reunited for the first time since 1981. They're joined by drummer Victor Penalosa, a fine musician in his own right who faithfully recreates the style heard on the classic recordings while at the same time adding his own flavor. The foursome has gone back into the studio to finish up long lost recordings as well as cutting brand new material. They recently toured Japan and Australia, returning home to San Francisco to do a show that sold out in less than 24 hours. Fans have been delighted with what is being called "a dream set list", including original songs the band has never performed before onstage. Newcomers are asking, "Why haven't I ever heard of this group?" It's hard to say just why the group hasn't gotten the attention they deserve (at least in the USA) but they're back to give everyone another chance at hearing and seeing just why those in the know consider them one of the greatest rock n' roll bands ever.

Conor Maynard: "I'm not a Justin Bieber copy"

Conor Maynard has once again dismissed comparisons between himself and Justin Bieber.

Both acts come from the same DIY background, having made an impact on YouTube before hitting the mainstream.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Brighton lad Maynard believes that the difference between the young pair, however, is in the actual music. He said:

"The difference between us is in the music. For me, obviously we're both young and that kind of thing. But when people hear more of the album, they start to realise that it's maybe not quite a complete copy."

With Bieber's recent alleged escapade with marijuana in reference, Maynard added that he is fully aware of the attention that is placed on him and the repercussions of doing something that could tarnish his reputation. The 'Vegas Girl' star said:

"You've just got to know what you're doing. You've got to sit back and realise that because of what we do, what artists do, they're interested in what you're doing. You've got to be conscious of that. You've got to realize that this is your life and that's the consequence I have to pay for all the amazing things I've achieved. You have to find that balance."

Maynard's debut album 'Contrast' was released in the US on January 8 this year.

Conor Maynard would love to return to acting

Conor Maynard has revealed that acting was his first passion and that he would love to return to it one day.

Maynard is currently riding high in the UK albums chart with his debut effort 'Contrast', with his chart-topping performance doing little to dispel the 'British Justin Bieber' comparisons.

The Brighton born 19-year-old - who was a bedroom musician before being unearthed by Ne-Yo - said that acting was his "main passion" until he was about 15.

Maynard added that he would love to try out acting once again - if he managed to reach his goals in the music industry. He said:

"Until the age of about 15 it was the only thing, my main passion. I'd love to go back to it one day, if I reach where I want to go in the music industry. Going on to acting would be amazing and I've always enjoyed it. I used to go to a drama school in Brighton at the weekend outside my own normal school."

Conor Maynard has revealed that he has taken a fancy to Rita Ora.

Both Maynard and Ora are rising stars in the music business and it seems like the 'R.I.P' singer is having something of an effect on Maynard.

The 'Vegas Girl' singer told The Sun that not only is she a bit of a looker, she is also a close friend too. When asked if he has a celebrity crush, Maynard replied:

"I've got to say Rita Ora. She's on my record, she's a close friend and she is so beautiful."

The youngster also commented on comparisons between himself and Justin Bieber, something which he believes stems from their YouTube roots. He said:

"I think the comparisons with Justin Bieber are always going to be there because we've made it in the same way, by getting noticed on YouTube. If I'm going to be compared to one of the biggest stars in the world it's a cool feeling, but in terms of the music I think we're different."

Rising star Conor Maynard says he will never forget his friends, despite how famous he may become.

Maynard has been dubbed the 'British Justin Bieber' as his stock continues to rise in the 19-year-old's homeland.

He told the Daily Star however that he won't forget his friends as his fame grows - suggesting that he wants to take them all out on holiday to celebrate. He said:

"I'm going to see my friends less and less because of work. But I wont ever forget them. In one of Drake's songs he talks about taking his friends on a massive holiday and paying for it all. I can imagine doing that, taking my friends away on holiday as a thank you for being so patient while I was so busy doing the pop thing."

However, it seems like Maynard wouldn't be partying too much. He said:

"I try to party but I like to sleep more. That's my down time – literally on the floor asleep."

He worked with Williams on his debut album and the N*E*R*D man reckons he has got a massive future ahead of him. He told Billboard:

"This kid will change the future of pop music."

Maynard meanwhile told Billboard that he feels comparisons between himself and Justin Bieber so early on in his career are "crazy" but also perhaps a bit misguided. He said:

"To be compared to him when I'm on my first single is a crazy feeling. At the same time, that comparison only goes so far. We're both young and came through YouTube [but] in terms of the music, it's very different."

Conor Maynard has revealed his surprise at seeing his debut single hit No.2 in the UK charts.

The 19-year-old has shot into the mainstream recently and has been dubbed the 'British Justin Bieber'.

Maynard displaced Bieber in the singles chart on Sunday (April 22) and he told the Independent that it is "amazing" that his track 'Can't Say No' has done so well. He said:

"It's pretty amazing for the single to go in so high. I'm still figuring out how all this works."

Maynard, who started recording music via a PlayStation microphone, added that his break came when he was told by a member of Ne-Yo's crew that the hip-hop star wanted to speak to him - much to his disbelief. Maynard said:

"I was sitting in my bedroom at 1am when I got a Skype call from Ne-Yo. It was definitely him. I was in my pyjamas but fortunately he didn't hang up. I had to be really quiet so I didn't wake my mum up."
