Robbie Williams blasts Nick Grimshaw over radio rejection

Robbie Williams has taken aim at Nick Grimshaw and BBC Radio 1 over their decision last year not to play the singer's material.

As previously reported, the star's single 'Candy' was dodged by the popular radio station because Williams was deemed "irrelevant" to their listeners.

The 'Take The Crown' singer performed at last night's (May 13) Sony Radio Academy Awards, with DJ Grimshaw in the audience.

Williams quipped about the radio rejection, with The Sun quoting him as saying:

"I did the Brits and started singing, 'Hey-ho, here we go' to a bunch of industry people and they were all just like, 'F*** off, you're fat and you're old. And Radio 1 don't play you no more – you're fat and you're old'."

He is then said to have looked at Grimshaw and said: "Isn't that right Nick, you b******?"

Williams, however, added that he has been let back on BBC Radio 1 with his new Dizzee Rascal collaboration 'Goin' Crazy'.

The track, which featured on the soundtrack to 1997 film Titanic, was performed in Berlin, Germany on Saturday night (May 11).

Speaking after playing through the song, the band admitted: "We didn't know the words and still got away with it."

It's just the latest cover to be played on One Direction's Take Me Home tour, with the lads recently having a go at Backstreet Boys' 'I Want It That Way'.

After that cover hit the internet, the US boyband took to Twitter to thank the Brits for covering the track, praising their effort.

Noel Gallagher slags off One Direction, Paloma Faith and Emeli Sandé

Noel Gallagher has criticised BRIT Award stars One Direction, Paloma Faith and Emeli Sandé.

The outspoken guitarist and singer attended this year's awards ceremony in February but it seems it was a bit too dull for his liking.

Speaking to Shortlist, Gallagher recounted how he and former Britpop rival Damon Albarn sat together, got drunk and shouted at One Direction whilst they were on stage.

Going one further, the former Oasis man said that whilst they may be "nice" people, the 'Kiss You' stars' music and X Factor allegiance irks him. He said:

"One Direction, prancing up and down singing a Blondie song and getting an award for it. Nice lads though they might be, f**k off. Which is exactly what we told them. It's turning into the grand finale of the X Factor, which is exactly what Simon Cowell wants."

Referring to the BRITs itself, Gallagher added: "I think the BRITs has now reached a tipping point. Something needs to be done. It's a s**t thing for a middle-aged man to say - 'Well, it's not as good as it was in my day' - but, you know, I'm still switched on enough to think, 'It was better'. You look at the best now. Paloma Faith? Do me a favour. Who's f***ing decided she's a star? Emeli Sandé? That is f***ing music for grannies. I don't get it."

Outspoken rocker Noel Gallagher has revealed that during this year's BRIT Awards in London he enjoyed an entertaining bonding moment with Blur star Damon Albarn that involved One Direction.

Speaking to Time Out Dubai about the amusing incident, he explained that he spent time with the 'Song 2' singer as they sat at the same table and got on because they shared the same opinion on the UK boyband:

"We were both invited by War Child (this year) so we were sat on the same table. And it turns out, after all these years, that we're both actually really genial fellas. We got absolutely (drunk) and told One Direction to (go away) in unison, that was the highlight of the night."

When asked how One Direction reacted to the face-to-face snub, Gallagher joked: "I don't know, you better ask One Direction."

Taylor Swift has poured cold water over suggestions she is romantically involved with Ed Sheeran.

The pair, who have collaborated in the past, are often linked together - but it seems their relationship is purely a professional one.

Speaking to We Love Pop, Swift revealed that their conversations usually end up discussing music and life questions - not romance. She said:

"We mostly just text: 'Hey pal! Miss you dude!' And it somehow ends up turning into a conversation about the meaning of life and music."

The 'Red' star meanwhile recently revealed a somewhat surprising desire to collaborate with US rapper Eminem.

However, any potential team-up would see Swift sing a chorus and not rap.

Robbie Williams has revealed why he penned a song about the 2013 BRIT Awards.

As previously reported, the singer surprised fans recently by uploading online a fresh track called 'The Brits 2013'.

The song, which was written with Guy Chambers, took aim at the awards ceremony.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4, Williams said that he penned the tune because he was left disappointed by the crowd's reaction to his live slot, which saw him perform his hit single 'Candy'. He said:

"I'm not saying that I was amazing at the Brits either."

Williams continued: "I got on stage and turned around and looked at a dead hall. It's not their fault, but maybe they should have some punters in."

Double BRIT award winner Ben Howard has revealed that people at the 2013 ceremony weren't too excited about One Direction despite them being an internationally well-loved act.

The musician, who picked up trophies for 'Best British Breakthrough Act' and 'Best British Male Solo Artist', told The Sun newspaper that event goers 'audibly groaned' when the heartthrobs' names were called out during the 'Best Group' prize segment of the night:

"It was definitely a pretty tame awards show. There weren't many rock groups there. You heard this audible groan around the hall when One Direction were up for 'Best Group'."

Howard also joked about the public's reaction to his BRITs success, adding: "I got told that 'Who the f**k is Ben Howard' was trending on Twitter - I like the idea of it. I was never in music to make it to awards shows. I s**t myself when the paparazzi were taking photos."

The 17-year-old vocal talent has been the subject of newspaper speculation over the past week as Bieber tours the UK.

It had been reported that the Canadian megastar "wooed" Paige by sending a Rolls Royce to her house to pick her up before partying together in London.

Naturally, some people assumed the reports meant the singer was dating the 'Boyfriend' star - something which she denied on Twitter.

Replying to a tweet which stated the duo were just "acquaintances", Paige said:

"Exactly... So no need to be nasty :)"

Paige's Twitter account has since become a popular stomping ground for Bieber fans since the rumours broke.

'Next To Me' songstress Emeli Sande picked up two BRIT Awards at Wednesday night's (February 20) ceremony in London and her parents have praised her work ethic, talent and determination in achieving her dreams.

She won the British Female Solo Artist title and British Album prize for her debut record 'Our Version Of Events', and her father spoke to The Daily Record about her success:

"Emeli worked so hard at this and she deserves it. She never gave up and it has paid off."

He added that the fact that her career is still flying high this year means that she'll be around for a while yet: "Perhaps if she had got this last year it would have been far too early, so it might not have worked out so well for her."

Tweeting about her double win earlier this week, Sande wrote: "Last night was a dream."
