Sunday 16 June 2013: Download Festival - THE biggest weekend in the rock calendar - took place this weekend as 90,000 people rocked out in Donington Park to headliners Slipknot, Iron Maiden and Rammstein plus a host of other bands across the weekend.

Crowds of rock fans packed out Donington Park as the opening day of Download saw Asking Alexandria, Papa Roach, Architects, Korn, Bullet for My Valentine all perform mind blowing sets throughout the day, while bands like Fearless Vampire Killers, Fidlar and The Algorithm ripped up the Red Bull Bedroom Jam Stage.

Slipknot had Donington in the palm of their hand as they opened their set with ‘Distasterpiece’ before launching into ‘Liberate’, ‘Wait and Bleed’, ‘Before I Forget’ and ‘Psychosocial’. A moment that will go down in Download history followed when 90,000 people knelt down on Donignton’s sacred ground before “jumping the fuck up” during a raging rendition of ‘Spit It Out’.

Saturday’s epic lineup saw Queens of the Stone Age make their Download debut as the sun beamed down on the home of rock, while Motorhead, Alice In Chains, Mastodon, Enter Shikari, Jimmy Eat World, The Hives, Kvelertak and many more all played blinding sets.

A Spitfire circled Donington Park before Iron Maiden burst onto stage with their headline set bringing the Maiden England tour to the festival marking 25 years since the band first headlined Donington Park. The set included ‘Run To The Hills’, ‘Fear of the Dark’, ‘The Number of the Beast’ and an encore of ‘Aces High’, ‘The Evil That Men Do’ and ‘Running Free’.

The closing day of Download has already seen crowds roaring with sets from Coal Chamber, Five Finger Death Punch, Parkway Drive, with Limp Bizkit, Thirty Seconds To Mars, Gaslight Anthem, A Day To Remember and many more still to come. And of course everyone is gearing up for a stunning set from tonight’s headliners Rammstein, who will close the festival with a set that’s sure to contend for rock show of the year.

Download Festival promoter Andy Copping commented: “It’s been an amazing weekend. We’ve had over 150 bands across five stages and a trio of ground breaking, world class headliners. Having Iron Maiden back 25 years after they first headlined Donington was an incredible moment. Slipknot as usual delivered an unforgettable set, and Rammstein tonight will be the first time the band have played Donington.”

Other activity on site included The Red Bull Studios live at Download, which culminated in an exciting series of sets from some of the UK's hottest emerging bands. Croydon trio Press To Meco were met with a raucous overspilling tent whilst Aberdeen four piece Semperfi had the electric crowds shouting back their lyrics. The highlight for fellow Aberdeen cohorts Akord was undoubtedly accepting an impromptu invite to play on the main stage during Down's set to a 70k strong crowd. Having previously nurtured the cream of new rock talent such as Radio 1 favourites Don Broco, Red Bull Studios will no doubt be seeing this year's alumni on bigger stages very soon. Fans don’t need to be too down about the fact that the weekend is almost over, as festival organisers announce the dates for next year and a special early bird offer as a thank you to fans. Ticketmaster has discovered that metal and rock fans are amongst the most loyal there are. Research conducted by Ticketmaster’s LiveAnalytics team has revealed that attendees of Download, the UK’s premier rock festival, were much more likely to be returning after a previous visit than at an average festival. Loyalty is increasing significantly year on year, with 27% of this year’s festival goers returning after attending last year, growing steadily from 20% in 2012 and 13% in 2011, to this year’s all-time high.

‘Our findings suggest that metal and rock fans simply can’t resist the lure of their favourite bands: and with a line up including Slipknot, Iron Maiden and Rammstein, who can blame them?’ – Sophie Crosby, VP of Insight, Ticketmaster International.

Robin Thicke: "Music video breasts didn't knock my socks off"

Singer Robin Thicke says the women's breasts in his 'Blurred Lines' video "didn't knock his socks off".

The 36-year-old star's catchy hit featuring Pharrell Williams and T.I. has become an international sensation.

However, the explicit version of the accompanying music promo - which shows Thicke, Williams and T.I. surrounded by half naked women - has been branded inappropriate by some.

Thicke doesn't understand the furore surrounding the video - and admits he wasn't fazed by the topless women around him.

He laughed in an interview with British magazine Heat: "There are three girls, so mathematically that's three pairs of boobs. But, to be honest - and I've got to be honest - I've been around a lot of boobs. My wife has one of the most amazing pair of boobs you could ever see, so these ones didn't knock my socks off."

Thicke is married to actress Paula Patton, and he has previously explained she loves the concept of his much talked about promo.

He revealed: "Some of it was my wife's idea. My wife is an artist first and wife second. So she's my creative partner and muse. She was excited about it right away and loved the video and wanted to watch it like 10 times, then she would jump on my bones."

Jon Gomm Seeking Musicians To Open UK Tour Dates

After 2 years touring all over the planet, viral sensation and guitar virtuoso Jon Gomm is hitting the road on home soil with his first major solo UK tour this Autumn, playing the Youtube hits that first brought him fame and premiering songs from his forthcoming album Secrets Nobody Keeps.

Jon is pleased to announce that if you are a band or solo artist, you can now apply to play the opening set at one of the upcoming dates. Gomm well remembers the pain of applying for support slots in his hometown, only to find it was already taken by a touring support artist, often on the same label or agency roster as the headliners. Where possible, Jon wants to give the chance to local musicians.

How To Apply :

1) Go to the facebook event for the one gig nearest you (listed at http://bit.ly/GomUK )
2) Please post a direct link to video or audio of your music (e.g. Youtube, Soundcloud, or Bandcamp) as a post on this event page.
3) Jon will personally select a shortlist of bands.
4) We'll invite the guests of the facebook event to vote for who they'd like to see.

The final choice for support artist will then be made by Jon in conjunction with the concert venue/promoter, and will be subject to terms and conditions set out by the venue/promoter. For a few gigs, support artists have already been chosen (for special reasons).

Pure Love, Frank Carter and Jim Carroll, announced the release of their first single Handsome Devils Club. The single will be released on the 23rd July and received its worldwide premiere as Zane Lowe’s Hottest Record In The World this week.

Handsome Devils Club, as uplifting and propulsive as you’d want a song about – as Frank Carter defines it – “being young and having fun” to be. The single follows the free download Bury My Bones that was released last month on www.therealpurelove.com. Bury My Bones has already clocked up nearly ½ million views on YouTube and was downloaded in the thousands in its first few days. The download picked up great support at radio with plays across Radio 1 (including Zane Lowe, Daniel P Carter, Mike Davies and Nick Grimshaw) and Xfm.

On the same day as the radio premiere, Pure Love played their second ever live show at London’s Scala. Then, this weekend they play Dot To Dot Festival in Bristol, Nottingham and Manchester.
Pure Love have just been confirmed to support Biffy Clyro at the Swindon Oasis on June 8th. They have also been announced for this year’s Reading and Leeds Festival and will open the NME / Radio 1 stage on the Saturday in Reading and Sunday in Leeds.

Pure Love – the name is taken from a song by ’70s jazz-rock fusionists Mahavishnu Orchestra, Sapphire Bullets Of Pure Love – came into being quickly and instinctively. Singer Frank Carter and guitarist Jim Carroll got together in their adopted hometown of New York at the beginning of last year having decided to form their perfect rock band.
