One Direction's 'big announcement' generates more tweets than Margaret Thatcher's death

Social networking site Twitter has confirmed that boyband One Direction's 'big announcement' yesterday saw just over one million tweets posted in one hour on the topic.

The news that the heartthrobs revealed was of a stadium tour that will take them around the world next year, called the 'Where We Are' tour, and so far dates have been confirmed in South America, the UK and Ireland.

Following the announcement, the hashtag '#onebigdisappointment' made it into the Top 10 worldwide trending topics list as fans shared their disappointment at the lack of more international concerts.

In just 80 minutes after the news was unveiled, over 1 million tweets had been uploaded about the stadium tour and to put that information into context, it took 4 hours for the same amount of tweets to be shared about the death of Margaret Thatcher last month.

The lads have been expressing their excitement over the 'Where We Are' jaunt on their individual social networking pages and member Niall Horan updated his Twitter account last night (May 16), writing: "We are a family! We stick together forever! Love you all! Best fans on the planet."

One Direction wear football tops from around the world to promote new tour

One Direction donned a number of football strips from countries around the globe as they promoted their newly announced 2014 tour.

As previously reported, the boyband confirmed yesterday (May 16) the first batch of dates for their Where We Are stadium tour after teasing a 'big announcement' for a week.

It will kick off in South America in spring before travelling to the UK and Ireland, with more concerts due to be released.

The group announced the news at a press conference at London's Wembley Stadium, before hitting the pitch to pose in football tops from the countries they will visit.

There were seen in tops from the likes of Paraguay and Brazil - although they ditched the traditionally underachieving Scottish football team by wearing the country's rugby strip instead.

The group also had a kickabout on the famous pitch.

Boyband One Direction announced details of their 2014 stadium tour earlier this morning (May 16), but the lads have revealed that the news is overwhelming and they can't imagine how they will sell all of the tickets to the shows.

The group are due to kick off their 'Where We Are' tour next year with a run of dates in South America, Ireland and the UK, and at the press conference member Liam Payne confessed that the venues are so big they're now concerned that the shows might not sell out:

"We're looking at the pitch out in Wembley and we've got no idea how we're going to sell the tickets."

Louis Tomlinson added that the news is so huge they're now working hard to keep their feet firmly on the ground: "We're just trying to keep our feet on the ground. But right now we just take each day as it comes and get ready for the stadiums. I can't believe I just said that!"

Singer Niall Horan joked that he's particularly looking forward to the South American dates as he loves to party: "We're big into partying and Brazil are big into carnivals so we're excited to get involved."

Alexandra Burke 'postpones' Royal Albert Hall residency

Songstress Alexandra Burke has revealed that her forthcoming 6-show residency at the Royal Albert Hall in London (June 2013) has been postponed due to 'overwhelming demand'.

Tweeting about the disappointing news this afternoon (May 16), the 'Broken Heels' hitmaker apologised for letting people down: "Hi, I'm afraid we're postponing the Royal Albert Hall shows until later in the year. Sorry for any disappointment. I'll tweet the statement."

Burke was supposed to play a run of dates at the venue's Elgar Room, where she was set to perform the soundtrack to 1972 Billie Holiday biopic 'Lady Sings The Blues', in which Diana Ross played the singer, but an official statement confirms that the dates are no longer going ahead:

"Due to an overwhelming demand for tickets, Alexandra Burke has decided to postpone her June 'Lady Sings The Blues' concerts and re-schedule the performances for later this year, at additional venues. Tickets for the six dates at the Royal Albert Hall's Elgar Room sold out within hours, with many fans disappointed, so these new dates, to be announced soon, will allow more fans to see and enjoy the shows."

Olly Murs & Ed Drewett perform only shared scheduled concert on day co-written 'Dear Darlin' released

Olly Murs’ new single out same day as Peterborough concert with co-writer Ed Drewett Embankment gig set to be only concert with both artists on line-up

The huge Olly Murs outdoor summer concert at Peterborough’s Embankment, on Sunday, 2 June, has become the ‘right place right time’, and possibly the ‘only place only time’, for pop fans to see both Olly and Ed Drewett perform at the same concert after it was announced that Olly’s next single, Dear Darlin’, which Olly penned with Ed, is due for release on the same day as Peterborough’s biggest music event of the year

Dear Darlin is the third single from Olly’s most recent album, Right Place Right Time, of which Ed co-wrote a total of three tracks with Olly

Very special guests Stooshe, Diana Vickers and rising starlet Tich are also set to perform at the big outdoor summer affair concert this summer

Olly Murs is one of the hottest UK performers on the music scene today, with his album also soaring up the US charts, while Ed Drewett is the household-name-in-waiting of UK music, having worked with – in addition to Olly - everyone from Pro Green, collaborating and featuring on the #3 chart track I Need You Tonight and supporting him on three tours, through to The Wanted, as the writer of Lightning and the #1 chart singles All Time Low and Glad You Came

Concert spokesman Dion Clements said “The timing of the release of Olly’s latest single couldn’t have come on any better day than when he and the song’s co-writer perform the only expected concert this year where the pair will both appear on the same line-up”

With the kind permission of Peterborough City Council, the concert will take place at The Embankment, Peterborough, on Sunday, 2 June. For more information, or to book tickets for the event, visit www.gigantic.com or call 0871 224 1112 / 0844 888 9991, or visit www.nationalboxoffice.co.uk

P!nk cancels one of her postponed UK tour dates

Back in April, pop-rocker P!nk was forced to postpone her April 22 tour date that was scheduled to take place in Birmingham at the LG Arena but it has now been completely cancelled.

Her reason for shelving the event was medical and last month she tweeted: "I have an ear and respiratory infection. I am not a person that takes cancellations lightly - and I apologise to anyone who was inconvenienced by my illness. Thanks to all my genuine people out there sending love."

Fans who were due to attend were told to hold on to their tickets and await a rescheduling announcement as the date was initially going to be moved to a different night, but a statement has now been released by the venue (May 3) to inform people that there won't be a concert to make up for the axed show:

"It is with great regret that Pink has been forced to cancel her previously postponed second show in Birmingham, originally scheduled for 22nd April, at the LG Arena. Pink was forced to postpone the show on the advice of doctors as she was suffering from an inner ear and respiratory infection."

"Concert promoters ask ticket holders for the cancelled show to contact their point of purchase for details on how to apply for a refund of the face value of their ticket. Refunds will commence on Friday 3rd May 2013."

Writing on her official Twitter page this afternoon, P!nk made a remark about letting people down although it doesn't appear to be in reference to the cancelled performance: "In my next lifetime I hope to be perfect so as not to disappoint another human being ever. I also hope pigs fly by then. #fairweatherfriends."

Mumford & Sons are pleased to announce details of a series of ‘Gentlemen of the Road Stopover…’ shows this Summer. The one-day, outdoor events will tour globally and will come to Salthill Park, Salthill, Galway on Saturday 9th June.

The show will be headlined by Mumford & Sons, and will feature full bills of support acts curated by the band themselves. The Vaccines, Willy Mason, Zulu Winter, Nathaniel Rateliff, The Correspondents have all been confirmed for the Galway Show.

Mumford & Sons said: “The Gentlemen of the Road Stopover is based loosely upon our favourite festivals like Colorado’s Telluride Bluegrass and Scotland's Loopallu Festivals. We want to stop off in towns not usually heavily toured by bands, and celebrate the people, food and music that inhabit them.

We’re keen to promote the town’s local businesses, and we’ll be using the local bars and venues for aftershow parties, whilst working closely with the local people to get everyone involved in making these shows spectacular. There will be a host of our friends playing too, and the vibe falls somewhere between ‘travelling Victorian circus’ and ‘Victorian travelling circus’. It should be a whole lot of fun.”

All of the Gentlemen of the Road Stopover shows will heavily involve the local communities, from the produce sold on the sites, to engaging visitors with the towns as a whole.

The band will also play a series of evening gigs preceding and between the Stopover shows, with the support acts selected from the Summer show line-ups.
