TOM ODELL TO RELEASE SPECIAL RECORD STORE DAY 12" VINYL

TOM ODELL SET TO RELEASE SPECIAL RECORD STORE DAY 12" VINYL

4 TRACK EP INCLUDES COVER VERSIONS OF THE BEATLES, CYNDI LAUPER, RONNIE LANE & PALMA VIOLETS & RECORDED LIVE IN LONDON

Tom Odell, the BRITS Critics Choice, is set to release a very special 4 track 12" vinyl recorded in London for Record Store Day titled ‘The Daytrotter Recordings’, this Saturday April 20th. It follows the release of his debut single ‘Hold Me’ and is a precursor to his much anticipated debut album ‘Long Way Down’, set for release via I.T.N.O/Columbia Records on June 24th.

The 4 tracks were recorded on Monday 15th April in London and are set for a highly limited vinyl run that Tom will then hand deliver into his favorite record store, Resident Records, in Brighton.

When asked about his involvement with Record Store Day, Tom said...

When I found out I had the opportunity to release something for Record Store Day I was excited. Just the chance to get back in the recording studio seemed very appealing. I wanted to do something different. The thing I love about Record Store Day is that the releases are completely unique. It’s one of the few moments when you can find and own something that won't be available anywhere else. It becomes more personal. It becomes more special.

I decided I wanted to release an EP that could emulate some of the stuff I've been doing on the road with my band. I wanted it to sound live. So we recorded a set of some of my favourite songs, and we recorded them straight to tape. We only had a couple of hours, and a couple of reels of the stuff, but that made it all the more compelling.

Hope you enjoy, Tom

Track Listing for ‘The Daytrotter Recordings’

1. Anymore for Anymore (Originally performed by Ronnie Lane)

2. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (Originally performed by Cyndi Lauper)

3. Best of Friends (Originally performed by Palma Violets)

4. Oh Darling (Originally performed by The Beatles)

Tom heads back to the US for further tour dates before returning to mainland Europe and the UK for a string of sold out shows including Somerset House, two shows at Camden’s Electric Ballroom and Shepherds Bush Empire. He will also be supporting The Rolling Stones later in the summer.

Adam Lambert on manufactured artists: 'Until you release original material you're not taken seriously'

'Trespassing' superstar Adam Lambert has spoken out about the struggles artists can face when they go through the televised talent contest route, much like he did after taking part in 'American Idol'.

The vocal sensation shot to fame following his stint on the programme, from which he emerged the runner up, and has gone on to enjoy an incredibly successful career, but told Fiasco magazine that it can be a tough background to build a base from.

Lambert explained that people often don't consider artists to have genuine integrity until they record and release original material: "It's interesting because you get all this hype and celebrity and its of the moment. But as far as being an artist, that's not really explored until you put out your own original material."

In the same interview, the hitmaker revealed that sexuality often impacts your career if you're in the music industry and said: "The way I look at it, there’s just as much pressure [on men], but men aren’t supposed to talk about it. It’s supposed to seem easy, but men, especially in the public eye, are just as worried as women are.”

Adam Lambert signs up for LGBT holiday concert

Vocal sensation Adam Lambert has been added to the bill for Cyndi Lauper's second annual holiday concert in New York City.

The 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun' icon has enlisted the help of some popular musicians and stars for her upcoming Cyndi Lauper & Friends: Home for the Holidays event, which will benefit homeless lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youths.

The event, which will take place on December 8 at the Beacon Theatre in Manhattan, will also feature appearances from Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie O’Donnell and Alexis Krauss of Sleigh Bells.

Speaking about the concert, Lauper explained that it's important to support the LGBT community and she's excited about this year's line-up: "When I first learned that up to 40 percent of all homeless youth in this country identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender I was shocked and saddened."

"For far too long homeless youth have not received the attention, resources and funding necessary to bring an end to this epidemic. My hope is that through this inspiring evening of music and comedy we can raise awareness and much needed funds to help these young people through our newly launched Forty to None Project.”

Meanwhile, Lambert recently made headlines after his cameo in 'Pretty Little Liars' and TV By The Numbers reports that it was "Tuesday’s #1 “Most Social” program and scored a 31% share of all TV-related social media activity."

Cyndi Lauper on modern music: 'It's all about sex, sex, sex'

'Time After Time' sensation Cyndi Lauper has admitted that she thinks modern music is too concerned with sex and can have an "aggressive" effect on some listeners.

She explained to London's Metro newspaper that a fan got her thinking about this idea during a recent concert and now she can't seem to get away from it:

"One young woman walked up to me recently at a concert and thanked me for my work 'in the midst of all this rape music'. I never thought of it like that, but so much music nowadays is about sex, sex, sex and is quite aggressive. She called it rape music. I thought, 'Oh my God, I guess she's right'."

She then added that when writing her own songs she tries to do so for people who will take her lyrics on board and to heart: "I just try to write music that connects with people's conscience and make music for awake people rather than sleepwalkers."

Cyndi Lauper left red-faced after National Anthem flub

Cyndi Lauper performed America's National Anthem live on television over the weekend during the US Open semi-finals, but mixed up the song's lyrics.

The 'True Colors' superstar appeared to suffer the same fate as Christina Aguilera, who flubbed the words during the same part earlier this year, as she sang "O'er the ramparts, we watched as our flag was still streaming," instead of "O'er the ramparts we watch'd were so gallantly streaming."

She took to social networking site Twitter after her rendition of the anthem to explain her embarrassing mix up and wrote:

"Whew, I just did the anthem for the US open. It was an awesome experience.I got choked up in the middle remembering 9/11. The moon shone done on us and I tried to say a prayer at the same time.. I hope I didn't mess up too bad. I wanted it to be comforting. Xcyn"
