Bang & Olufsen and Universal Music Form New Collaboration

COPENHAGEN, Denmark and DEERFIELD, Ill., April 8, 2013 -- Bang & Olufsen, the Danish provider of high-end custom made audio and video products and Universal Music, worldwide music leader, announce global, innovative partnership this month. The partnership will begin with a B&O PLAY (Bang & Olufsen's new brand geared towards digitally connected design enthusiasts) launch event at the highly popular Universal Music Yellow Lounge in London on April 8. The innovative partnership is a result of a shared passion for musical excellence. The goal for both companies is to provide music lovers recorded music in the highest possible quality. The cooperation is all about naturally authentic sound – and making the enjoyment of music, at home or on the go – as close as possible to how the artist intended it to be.

The first joint activity brings together Deutsche Grammophon, Universal Music's iconic classical label, and B&O PLAY, Bang & Olufsen's new brand that lets music aficionados enjoy outstanding acoustics in even more places. Founded in Berlin, Universal Music's Yellow Lounge movement has brought classical music to new audiences in new locations in a number of major urban centers. Yellow Lounge London guests will be the first to try out a brand new B&O PLAY product, and compare for themselves how the performances sound both live and in a Deutsche Grammophon recording – played on the latest B&O PLAY equipment.Subsequent B&O PLAY launch events are planned around the world at outside venues. In the USA, an event will be held May 8in New York City to support the product introduction.

Universal Music works with some of the greatest artists and labels of all time, and they share our mission of bringing people musical experiences that are as close to the original as possible."

Both companies will introduce further aspects of the new collaboration later this year, including exclusive Bang & Olufsen Yellow Lounge events in four major European cities during 2013 – all in the cause of musical excellence.

New album from acclaimed band Klak Tik

Album Release: The Servants by Klak Tik
Release date: March 4, 2013
Label: Safety First
Listen: on Facebook

Praise for debut album Must We Find A Winner:

“Like little droplets of sublimity, these 13 tracks are built around chiming, tender and sorrowful melodies… The orchestral folk album of the year?” 9/10 NME

“Offers the same vulnerable intimacy Sufjan Stevens perfected on Illinoise” Uncut

“Breathtaking - and as good as anything you'll hear on 6 Music at any time of any day of the week” Tom Robinson

“Brimful of folk and indie sounds embellished with ornate orchestral accompaniment” Record Collector

“Søren Bonke excites with his marvelous orchestral alternative folk debut and his sorrowful grip around your heart and gut” - No 8 in All Scandinavian’s 20 Best Albums of 2011

Locking yourself away in a chapel on the rugged coastline of the Irish Sea to record an album is probably near enough any musician’s dream, as it was for East London’s (via Denmark, New Zealand and Windsor) Klak Tik. To follow their (9/10 NME rated) debut album Must We Find A Winner the band (completed by Søren Bonke, Matthew Mitchinson and Jonathan Beyer and recently joined on drums by Andrew Joseph) escaped the trappings of East London’s alternative coffee shops and vintage chic for a simple purer existence in the Welsh village of Penrhos. For a month Klak Tik drew inspiration from the cold January sea, set up a make shift recording studio in a chapel, sang deep under Parys Mountain and shouted high into the chapel’s rafters, then walked out with what they believed to be album number 2.

Upon returning to London they realised that the idyllic location of a chapel, and the creative expression it obliges, was not enough to completely represent the reality of Klak Tik’s creative intentions, and so the writing and recording continued in Søren’s home studio for the remainder of the year. The resulting record, The Servants, is a tale of two lands; the powerful nature and the freedom that comes with solitude - and the infinite, cyclical, timelines and realities of the metropolis.

Although on this outing the songs could be described as leaner, the arrangements are not only deeper but the instrumentation reaches ambitions far beyond the orchestral direction of ‘Must We Find A Winner’. If pressed Klak Tik might refer to themselves as Post-Folk, to be filed loosely between Grizzly Bear, Sufjan Stevens and Love.

The Servants (named after the band Søren’s father drummed in during the 60s) marks a release for the band that is very much a product of the diverse, unique, surroundings it was recorded in. They’re a band that find themselves very much inspired by their locale, as Søren explains of the experience of recording in Parys Mountain.

“As we stood there and sung in the darkness, deep inside Mother Earth, it was as if the whole world had its eyes closed or had never seen at all, but then we were let out under a perfect starry night and realised that the opposite was the case. A clear view is best enjoyed after darkness. Music is best enjoyed after silence.”

The whole album is peppered with clues to Soren’s ability to observe something deeper in the smallest of details. Fire Souls talks of witnessing “fallen leaves like stories… folded into incarnations". The song title is a direct translation of a Danish expression for people of a particularly altruistic nature, who dedicate their lives to the improvement of others. Written in the wake of the deepest tragedy Scandinavia has ever experienced, the song expresses the view that the souls of the many young boys and girls that were taken that fateful summer's day in Norway will live on in perpetuity. Elsewhere, recent single Reborn alludes to having “finally woken up to the beauty of the world through a love song that I heard, by the rivers and the birds”. The song was conjured in the wake of a tube journey amongst the walking dead.

This is what Klak Tik do; they drag themselves to environments where the mind can wander, thoughts can unravel, and those small worldly details become something more significant. Perhaps it’s a lyric from the opening track, St Barnaby’s Lurch, that truly sums up Klak Tik’s innate need to make music and have it be heard; “Freedom makes us servants too, all for a reason you’ll see.”

After two great London show supporting Denmark’s Choir of Young Believers and fulfilling a collective dream of performing at Union Chapel, Klak Tik will spend the beginning of 2013 playing shows around the UK, with plans to return to Denmark and break new ground in Germany and Europe in the New Year.

Plans for Amy Winehouse stage show pulled by Mitch

The father of the late Amy Winehouse has called time on plans to create a stage show based on his daughter's tragic life and music career.

Stage bosses in Denmark had started to work on the production, which was meant to launch at the Danish Royal Theatre in Copenhagen next year, and it was set to include music from Winehouse's well-loved albums.

Chiefs at copyright agency Koda had originally granted permission for the music and photographs needed for the show, but Mitch Winehouse and a team of lawyers have now revoked access and shut it down.

Speaking to the Associated Press, Koda spokesperson Nicolaj Hylten-Cavallius explained: "We acted in good faith when we gave them the permission for the performance."

"We believed that the format - a theatre play - was Ok. We were told by her father and the lawyers around him that we can forget all about the rights for the music, the photos, branding and everything."

(Finest23CD) – released September 10th2012
Moon To Let EP (Digital) - featuring remixes from Zero 7 and Fink – released July 16th

Multiple platinum award winner and singer/songwriter with superstar status in her native country, Denmark, Tina Dico releases her new album Where Do You Go To Disappear? on September 10th on her imprint Finest Gramophone. Featuring 12 new songs which range from classic storytelling tunes to effusive up-tempo-tracks, the album was produced in Iceland with long-time musical partner Helgi Jonsson.

Let’s not talk about the product value of music. Let’s forget about sales figures, charts, airplay and awards for a moment. Tina Dico has had plenty of all that since the release of her debut-album Fuel in 2001. Why not talk about the real value of Tina Dico’s music, about beautiful, evocative songs? Tina’s songs are not easily pigeonholed, which may be one of the reasons for their steady growing popularity. She has a beautiful voice, and shows a genuine closeness to her fans. Tina has a wonderful knack of capturing many different emotions in her songs. Her lyrics are moving and real and her flawless voice and songs will sink under your skin.

Born and raised in the Danish city of Aarhus, Tina had spent ten years living in London, practically living out of a suitcase. She found the friction of her restless touring-life and the impressions from being on the road and time spent in London truly inspiring. Two years ago, she re-located to Copenhagen. The Danish capital should have become her main residence but Tina’s new found love to her former musical accomplice Helgi Jonsson pointed her to his native Iceland. Soon, after their arrival there, the couple went on to build and finish a recording studio in the basement of their new house. “Writing the new album has been very different because I've had silence around me, rather than hectic big city life. I thought it would make me write quiet songs but instead I started writing energetic tunes. There is a lot of bottled up energy in this silence and these huge quiet landscapes“, says Tina.

“The title of the album Where Do You Go To Disappear? Is essentially about the search for the things that make you forget about yourself and lose yourself in the moment with no thought of the future or the past. That's how I feel when I play music. It's so important to have these passions that enable us to give in and live in the moment.”

The 12 tracks on the album glide effortlessly from start to finish. The adventure that is Where Do You Go To Disappear? starts off with synthetic beats over epic sound-structures, which ostensibly are more “Moon Safari” than classic Tina Dico storytelling Folk. As Tina gained a sophisticated and multidimensional view from touring the world repeatedly over the last ten years, it is not surprising that her new album offers more variety, musically and thematically. Where Do You Go To Disappear? enables a new sound to come to the fore, which carries elements of both Tina’s trademark-sounds. More classic Tina songs such as Tip Of The Iceberg, Point Of No Return, Time Of Our Lives or the warm, welcoming Sunrise with its summer-feel, sound therefore familiar and newly discoverable at the same time. You Wanna Teach Me To Dance is making space for dancing for the first time in a Tina-song, with its exalted beats. Says Tina: “I don’t want to turn away from my perception as performing my songs just with an acoustic guitar. But I wanted to make more space for the music on my new record. Space for the music to be able to breathe more, to extend a little more and for it to discover new paths.” It is exactly that space that makes Where Do You Go To Disappear? a rich, joyful listening experience. It creates more space for discovering the real value of Tina Dico’s music.

The Moon To Let EP features remixes from Tina’s old friends Zero 7 and a wonderfully languid remix by Fink. The EP is released on July 16th.

Track-listing:
We’re all experts / Moon To Let / The World Is Perfect / Point Of No Return / The Time Of Our Lives / True North / The Tip Of The Iceberg / You Wanna Teach Me To Dance / Sunrise / The Other Side / Where Do You Go To Disappear? / You Leave You Learn

Tina will play some UK shows early next year. More news to come

The Danish fourpiece have announced the launch of www.efterkids.com, as part of their drive to raise awareness of the need for more music education in schools.

It is also hoped by the group that the project will unearth a spate of youthful talent for them to collaborate with in the future.

The site hosts various features, with perhaps the standout being the option for budding young performers to play along to stringless mp3s of the band’s hits, 'Natural Tune' and 'Full Moon'.

The group explained the motivation behind the project:

“Had it not been for encouraging music teachers in our public schools we would never have been where we are today. However, that's just one little positive outcome of music education in public schools. Several studies show that music education in schools has a major impact on kids. It fosters success in school life, social life and just life overall in fact.”
