Neil Diamond sings "Sweet Caroline" at emotional Red Sox game

Iconic American singer Neil Diamond performed his hit "Sweet Caroline" at the Red Sox game as fans returned to Fenway park on Saturday (April 20) following a turbulent few days in Boston after the marathon bombing and the manhunt for the suspect that followed.

During the eighth inning, Diamond took over the field and sang "Sweet Caroline," a song that has been a Fenway staple for years. According to reports, Diamond showed up on his own volition.

On April 16, the day after the Boston Marathon bombings, the New York Yankees (longtime Red Sox rivals) played "Sweet Caroline" during their home game, preceeded by a moment of silence as a tribute to the victims.

Major league ballparks around the United States paid tribute to the victims and those affected by the Boston Marathon bombings by playing "Sweet Caroline" over the loud speakers at the ballpark, mainly in the middle of the eighth inning.

Other bands have paid tribute to those affected by the Boston Marathon bombings, like the Dropkick Murphys, who raised over $100k for the victims by selling their "For Boston" t-shirt.

Kerry Katona engaged to George Kay

Kerry Katona has announced her engagement to boyfriend George Kay, a 33-year-old ex-rugby league player, after he proposed at the top of the Blackpool Tower last night (April 13).

Kay is said to have gone down on one knee in front of Katona’s four children in a specially arranged private section of the tower. The oldest of the children - Molly, aged 12 - then presented their mother with a diamond and gold engagement ring.

The couple have been denying engagement rumours since last month’s holiday in Dubai but now that Kay, who previously worked as a bodyguard for his new fiancée, has popped the question Katona has been more than happy to confirm their news:

“'I’m thrilled but a bit overwhelmed by it all.

“There were roses and champagne and George got down on one knee. It was the most romantic thing in the world. I am so happy.”

Katona, 32, who was under the illusion that the group were out for dinner, has also said:

“I was totally in shock about it, especially as I knew nothing, but my girls knew what was going on. I thought George was taking us out for a meal, but realised there was no one else there in the section we were in.

“He got down on one knee and said I was his world and that me and the kids were his family and would I make him the happiest man in the world by marrying him? All the kids were screaming ‘say yes Mummy’ and they were really excited.”

The Atomic Kitten star, who recently appeared on ITV show The Big Reunion, has been married previously to singer/songwriter Brian McFadden in 2002 and taxi driver Mark Croft in 2007. She has been dating new husband-to-be Kay for around nine months.

Katona was in expectedly good spirits this morning, tweeting to followers:

"Good morning twitter land!! Just woke up with a very very heavy left hand?? Ooooo it's my engagement ring!! Woohoo @mrgsjkay xxxxxx"

UNIDA bring their new biker rock project HOUSE OF BROKEN PROMISES to Desert Fest

Following the news that the mighty UNIDA have reformed and will be headlining this year's Desert Fest in London and Berlin comes the announcement that HOUSE OF BROKEN PROMISES, the band featuring Unida members Arthur Seay and Mike Cancino, will also perform at the festival. The band play the Electric Ballroom, Camden on April 27th.

"House Of Broken Promises deliver across the board with lock-up-yer-daughters cojones-rock bent on leaving tire marks and bruises to remember them by" - StonerRock.com

Originally formed in Indio, CA in 2004 following the break-up of Unida, HOUSE OF BROKEN PROMISES are the another branch of the desert-rock family tree that includes Kyuss, Slo Burn, Queens Of The Stone Age and the newly-renamed Vista Chino. Their debut album, "Using The Useless" is an uncompromising slab on incendiary hard rock that takes the listener on a fast-paced dirt-bike ride across the dusty, rocky expanse of Death Valley, yet somehow manages to maintain its accessibility through radio-friendly hooks.

Tracklisting:

Blister
Obey The Snake
Physco Plex
Highway Grit
Justify
Torn
Buried Alive
Broken Life
Walk On By
Ladron (Spanish version)
The Hurt (Paid My Dues)

Much more than a side-project, HOBP's huge guitar sounds, thunderous drums and intense, powerful vocals combine to produce grime-soaked biker-metal at its very best. The undeniably catchy first single, "Obey The Snake", grooves and swaggers with attitude, pulling together Sons Of Anarchy-style aggression over an AC/DC stomp.

With echoes of Monster Magnet and Corrosion Of Conformity, as well as Seay and Cancino's trademark Unida grit, HOUSE OF BROKEN PROMISES takes the key underground elements of the pair's legendary stoner-rock band and drags them into the mainstream whilst remaining unapologetically heavy. US reviews of the album "Using The Useless" have been universally glowing, praising the power of the band's pull-no-punches sound.

"A fucking diamond in the rough" - Metal Sucks

"One stone cold, bad ass, hard rock record." - Record Of The Month, The Cutting Edge

"Buy this album NOW! Otherwise the rest of the world is going to leave you in the dust." Blood Slayer

"The entire album rocks start to finish." - Ripple Magazine

Desert Fest 2013 finally gives European audiences their first chance to see the band live and, with Seay and Cancino also playing an exclusive UNIDA headline set later in the day, those left feeling incomplete after UNIDA's premature demise in the early 00's are set for a unique opportunity to witness a masterclass in the evolution of the desert-rock sound direct from the genre's architects.

"Using The Useless" gets its UK release on May 13th.

Morrissey slams Prince Harry and describes him as "an absolute idiot"

Former Smiths frontman Morrissey has reinforced his anti-monarchist opinions by slamming Prince Harry because of his recent naked photo scandal.

The young Prince was photographed while on holiday in Las Vegas with friends and the pictures soon leaked to the press, and Morrissey has now branded him "an absolute idiot".

Speaking to Australia's News.com.au, he described the royal family as "the most arrogant people on the planet" and went on to criticise other members such as Catherine Middleton and her husband, Prince William:

"I wasn't surprised by Harry in Vegas because he's always been an absolute idiot. The monarchy is foremost a business, and it's important to them that the British public continue to finance the excessive luxurious lifestyles of the now quite enormous, wasteful and useless 'royal' family. I find it very sad."

"William shoots deer, Kate's favourite food is the shockingly cruel foie gras, Harry shoots water buffalo. They are the most dysfunctional, unpleasant and arrogant people on the planet. A sour soap opera, and they should resign and retire."

The 25-year-old, who has previously sent the Starships singer five packets of condoms with his face on, told the Dead Cloud blog at Wireless Festival that he hasn’t yet given up on the chase:

“We’re not performing today, it’s a day off. And I’ve just come to see Nicki Minaj. She’s sexy.

Will.i.am has given this thoughts on Britain's royal family - and he reckons the Queen is quite like his grandmother.

The Black Eyed Peas man has spent a lot of time in the country recently, with a stint as a coach on The Voice UK and a performance at the Diamond Jubilee Concert to boot.

Speaking to the Guardian, will.i.am said that he admires the royal family and that the Queen actually reminds him of his grandmother. When asked about the British Monarchy, he said:

"I like all the families in the UK. But what I like about the idea of the royal family is...they seem like they're well educated and there's something admirable about them. And the Queen...she reminds me of my grandma. I was like, 'Wow, that's how my grandma is!'."

He continued: "Elegant, classy and the way she wore her hat...even her clothes are like my grandma's clothes! She's the leader of the family, you know, and when Prince Charles called her Mummy or Mumsy I was like, 'Wow!'. It's amazing because they're just regular people. They're in the public eye but they manage to live straight."

Sir Paul McCartney has said he's been doing exercise for years - on stage.

The Beatle, who turned 70 today (June 18), is quoted by the Daily Star as suggesting that he treats live shows as something of a workout.

However, he added that he still isn't feeling the pain despite his age. He said:

"I've been having cardiovascular exercise for years but it's on stage. I can't believe I do a three-hour show without taking a breath. You assume you would be feeling it now but it's the opposite."

The music world meanwhile have been paying tribute to McCartney as he celebrates his 70th birthday, with Paul Weller recording a special charity cover for the occasion.

Gary Barlow documentary set for DVD release on June 25th

‘On Her Majesty’s Service’ DVD
to be released on June 25th 2012

‘An incredible, beautiful, documentary. Television at its best’ ***** - Gordon Smart, The Sun

‘A joyous experience... both laugh-out-loud funny and properly uplifting.’ - Radio Times

Stunning, funny and moving. It's TV Gold’ - Boyd Hilton, Heat Magazine

‘Funny, touching and entertaining. Like Michael Palin but with music’ - Victoria White, Company Magazine

‘An emotional documentary that will put a smile on the face of viewers’ - Mark Jefferies, Daily Mirror

Includes unseen footage and deleted scenes

Polydor Records is proud to announce the release the triumph that is ‘Gary Barlow: On Her Majesty’s Service’ exec-produced and directed by Ben Winston for Fulwell 73 Productions, on DVD on June 25th. This immensely enjoyable documentary, that had critics across the board laying bountiful praise, see’s Gary Barlow embark on a journey around the Commonwealth to find the musicians and singers that would feature on the official Diamond Jubilee song, ‘Sing’.

Interest in the official Diamond Jubilee Song ‘Sing’ has mushroomed since it topped both the singles and albums charts - making it the fastest selling record of the year - not least because of the interest in its being the culmination of a journey which took Gary Barlow through the Queen’s realm to make a truly unique recording.

When it initially aired on BBC1 earlier this month ‘On Her Majesty’s Service’ was a huge ratings success, with an incredible 7.1 million viewers tuning in to see how Gary Barlow set about bringing together such an incredibly diverse collection of some of the most talented musicians from across The Commonwealth. Christmas chart-toppers Gareth Malone and The Military Wives then went on to lead The Commonwealth Band who delivered such a stunning debut live performance at the Diamond Jubilee Concert; again organised by Gary Barlow to such critical acclaim on that memorable weekend.

Now you can experience first-hand Gary Barlow’s mission of extensive preparation and journey to put together this truly unique DVD and official Diamond Jubilee Song, as well as revel in his many incredible experiences along the way, as he takes us across The Commonwealth to make ‘Sing’ happen.

The DVD features never-before-seen deleted scenes from the expedition which enabled Gary Barlow to discover the African Children’s Choir with soloist Lydia, who opens and closes the track, Aboriginal guitarist Gurrumul, Slum Drummers from Kenya’s Kibera slum, the Jolly boys from Jamaica and Royal Solomon Islands Police Force Band. Even HRH Prince Harry was able to make his musical debut on the single and DVD when Gary Barlow met up with him in Jamaica.

Gary Barlow says, “We went on a journey with this record, meeting and recording with some beautifully talented singers and musicians. I can't believe we've managed to get the amount of people we got featured on this song, from all corners of The Commonwealth, but we did! I'm very proud of the result and hope people enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it.”

And then, of course, crucial to the track’s realisation was Gary Barlow’s collaboration with Andrew Lloyd Webber on its production, who adds, “It has been a great joy to collaborate with Gary on a song for this extraordinary occasion. I hope it will become a song that is sung in celebration for many years to come.”

Exec-producer Ben Winston sums up with "This has been a wonderful film to be part of. The response to it has been overwhelming. I don't think when Gary and I first talked about this project we could have ever imagined the impact it would have had. A number one single and album, the live performance at Buckingham Palace, and the reaction to the amazing characters we found all over the world. Working with Gary has been fantastic, he is such a talent, but it's his warmth and humour that really come out in this film. I feel like this is the film where he truly shows who he is."

Gary Barlow at No.1 in the albums chart, Usher is close behind with 'Looking 4 Myself'

Although Gary Barlow and the Commonwealth Band have managed to cling to the No.1 spot with their Diamond Jubilee album, 'Sing', there will be a battle to secure the top spot this weekend.

Today's midweek update (June 13) has left Barlow sitting pretty at No.1, but the Official Charts Company revealed that there are less than 1,400 separating the top 3 albums. Usher's 'Looking 4 Myself' has debuted at No.2 and Amy Macdonald's 'Life In A Beautiful Light' is close behind at 3.

Maximo Park have also entered the Top 10 at No.6 with their new offering, 'The National Health', Hot Chip are at No.9 with 'In Our Heads', and Fleetwood Mac's '25 Years The Chain' has made an appearance at 12.

Barlow took to social networking site Twitter this afternoon and told his 1.6 million followers that he had enjoyed his downtime earlier today: "Cracking yoga sesh this morning, now time for a cuppa."
