Mumford & Sons: 'There's a lot of pressure surrounding our Glastonbury performance'

'I Will Wait' hitmakers Mumford & Sons have revealed that they're starting to get nervous ahead of their upcoming performance at the 2013 Glastonbury Festival.

The event, which will see the band play a headlining slot on June 30, takes place later this summer and will also see live sets from the likes of the Rolling Stones and Arctic Monkeys. Speaking about the 'pressure' to be perfect at the festival, frontman Marcus Mumford told Absolute Radio:

"Glastonbury is this big old juggernaut and its legacy is huge. We're playing the night after the Stones and of course it comes with a different kind of pressure. One that we're up for I think, otherwise we wouldn't have said yes. It's such a big deal for any English band, it is just kind of the biggest deal."

The band will also perform on July 6 at London's Queen Elizabeth Park and added that they're so glad to be home after breaking the U.S. market: "It's funny being a musician, because if you're not doing gigs then you're generally sitting at home and none of us are really sit at home kind of people, so we're quite enjoying busying ourselves this summer."

"We wanted to focus on England a bit more, we'd been in America a lot the last year or two. The summer's all about the UK, so we're really excited."

The Rolling Stones' Charlie Watts: "I don't want to play Glastonbury"

Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts has broken rank and admitted that he isn't looking forward to playing this year's Glastonbury Festival.

The veteran band are due to headline the event on June 29 as they play the iconic event for the first time in their illustrious career.

However, it appears that not all of the band wanted to play the massive shindig, with Watts admitting to the Guardian that he doesn't like playing festivals. The 71-year-old sticksman said:

"I don't want to do it. Everyone else does. I don't like playing outdoors, and I certainly don't like festivals. I've always thought they're nothing to do with playing. Playing is what I'm doing at the weekend. That's how I was brought up. But that's me, personally. When you're a band...you do anything and everything. But Glastonbury, it's old hat really. I never liked the hippy thing to start with. It's not what I'd like to do for a weekend, I can tell you."

He added: "The worst thing playing outdoors is when the wind blows, if you're a drummer, because the cymbals move...it really is hard to play then."

The Rolling Stones' Glastonbury date is part of their '50 and Counting' tour which will see the band hit North America and London's Hyde Park this summer.

The Beverley Festival office are pleased to announce international best selling author Ian Rankin

Rebus comes out of retirement to travel south to Beverley with author Ian Rankin!

Rebus comes out of retirement to travel south to Beverley

with author Ian Rankin!

Once again the Beverley Folk Festival has struck gold with the return to the event of the international best selling author, Ian Rankin. He will be bringing with him John Rebus, who once again returns to foil the crime world. Rankin’s first Rebus novel was published in 1987, and the Rebus books are now translated into twenty-two languages and are bestsellers on several continents.

In his second visit to the festival, Rankin will be reading from, and talking about, his latest award winning novel “Standing in Another Man’s Grave”. The book brings back memories of his friend and the inspiration for the title of the book, the late great Jackie Leven, who also appeared at the festival with Rankin on his first visit. It celebrates twenty-five years since John Rebus appeared on the scene, and five years since he retired. On his return to the world of solving crime, he is as stubborn and anarchic as ever, and despite countless problems along the way, none are going to stop Rebus, not even when his own life and the careers of those around him are on the line.

Whilst celebrating the life of Jackie Leven in the book, Rankin will be joined at the festival by two of Jackie’s long-term collaborators, who will be contributing musically to the performance.

Deborah Greenwood was Jackie Leven’s partner in life and in music for the last 15 years of his life. She now works hard to curate the incredible legacy of the 300 songs that he left behind, and to help introduce more people each year to the moving and poetic world of Jackie Leven.

She is joined on stage by Michael Weston King to sing some of the songs that form the soundtrack to ‘Standing in Another Man’s Grave’, the title of which was taken from one of Jackie’s songs. Former leader of Alternative Country pioneers “The Good Sons” and now acclaimed solo artist, he is the very embodiment of the modern day troubador. His album, “I Didn't Raise My Boy To Be A Soldier”, met with huge critical approval. On record he has collaborated with Chris Hillman, Ron Sexsmith, Jackie Leven, and the late, great Townes van Zandt, and has toured with Nick Cave, John Cale, Roger McGuinn, Steve Earle, Guy Clark, Rodney Crowell, and many more. Most recently he has joined forces with his wife, Lou Dalgleish to record under the name My Darling Clementine. "MWK is like Britain's very own Rodney Crowell" UnCut .

The show will be a rare performance of the show which is a very special one for Rankin, and those who remember Jackie Leven, and the festival feels honoured to be able to present this unique event.

A local firm of chartered accountants, cba are thrilled to support Beverley Folk Festival’s 30th Anniversary by sponsoring this event. Chris Brown, Senior Partner at cba explains:

“I have always enjoyed reading Ian Rankin’s novels. Music has a massive influence on his writing and provides his character with inspiration which leads him to solve his cases. I am also a great lover of music and enjoy venturing out during the Folk Festival weekend to see what’s on. There is always something slightly un-expected and I hope local residents will visit the race course to see the festival at its new location.

Our firm has worked closely on a professional level with the Folk Festival for several years. We enjoy supporting our clients and look forward to celebrating 30 years of the festival in Beverley and feel privileged to be part of the celebrations.”

Justin Timberlake has admitted that he doesn't remember his visits to the Coachella Festival that often - because he's been high on drugs.

The pop icon is a role model to many, but it seems he's often dabbled in "substances" in the past.

Speaking to MySpace, the '20/20 Experience' star revealed that he recalls standing in fields listening to bands whilst out of it. He said:

"I've been to Coachella many times, on many different, um, substances. I've not remembered a lot of it, I'll leave it at that."

Timberlake continued: "Like, I stood in an open field and one year I saw Nine Inch Nails and the next year I saw Weezer and I was standing in the middle of the field, you know, like tripping my mind out."

The Rolling Stones have revealed their delight at headlining this year's Glastonbury Festival.

As previously reported, the veteran rockers were announced alongside Arctic Monkeys and Mumford & Sons as the festival's bill-toppers.

The slot will follow on nicely from their 50th anniversary shows in London and the US last year, which were hugely popular.

Speaking about the announcement, guitarist Keith Richards said: "We all had such a ball last year, and the energy between the band is so good. We can't wait to play Glastonbury."

Ronnie Wood added: "I've been using all my persuasive charm on the boys for a few weeks now. Really pleased to be doing it. Can't wait to be getting out on that stage at Worthy Farm."

Tyler, The Creator: 'My life's easier if I don't know which concerts I'm performing at'

'Yonkers' hitmaker Tyler, The Creator has revealed that he deals with fame better if he stays in the dark about what's in his schedule because it really can become too much.

He was recently confirmed to perform at Glastonbury Festival, but joked to the Daily Star newspaper that he doesn't keep tabs on his shows because it helps him to stay calm if he doesn't know:

"I don’t have any idea what festivals I’m meant to be doing."

"I get real confused what I’m meant to be doing from day to day but I’ve learned the less you know, the easier life is."

When asked what his dream stage show would include, the rapper confessed it would be an extravagant affair: "My dream show would have llamas, a rollercoaster, go-karts, a ball-pit for everyone to play in and a bunch of naked women."

His new album, 'Wolf', has now been unveiled and he will perform at at London's O2 Islington Academy tomorrow night (March 30).
