Selena Gomez on growing up in the spotlight: 'I'm just trying to make myself happy'

'Spring Breakers' actress Selena Gomez has addressed the recent controversy surrounding her career choices and revealed that after being associated with Disney for so long, she just wanted to do something "creative and artsy".

Speaking to Radio 1's Nick Grimshaw earlier today (May 22), the 'Come & Get It' beauty explained that she's now trying to focus on the things that she enjoys, rather than playing it safe and doing what people would expect her to:

"I was aching for something that would be creative and artsy... I get that it's started a little bit of controversy which is understandable but at the end of a day it's a character. The bigger you get the more people are going to try and bring you down... I'm just trying to do what makes me happy."

Referring to the R-rated 'Spring Breakers', in which she played a college girl who robbed a restaurant in order to fund a girls' vacation, Gomez added: "You know [it was] really different for me. I wish all my movies were like that."

British rapper Professor Green has revealed that his and Millie Mackintosh's honeymoon has been delayed due to his busy schedule and forthcoming promotional commitments.

The 'Read All About It' hitmaker will marry the 'Made In Chelsea' beauty in the summer, but they won't celebrate their union with a romantic break until winter. Speaking about the change of plans to The Sun newspaper, he explained:

"Millie is understanding about the honeymoon delay. The album comes at the same time as our wedding so we’ll just have to wait a bit and have something extra special over Christmas.”

He also opened up about working with Pure Love and Zane Lowe on a new project about the creative process, adding:

"We have just made this video with Pure Love and Zane about the process behind how we create and then perform our music. It’s good that people are willing to fund our careers with projects like this because it’s proof music matters to them too. Not just as musicians, but as people, we all go by the no half measures philosophy, without a doubt."

will.i.am: "Solo album was a hurdle"

will.i.am says producing his solo album has been a "hurdle".

The recording artist and producer enjoyed a hugely successful career with the Black Eyed Peas, before branching out to record his own material.

will.i.am funded solo album '#willpower' himself because those around him weren't willing to take a risk on him away from the chart-topping group.

Will said: "When you're in a group like The Black Eyed Peas and you're successful, a lot of times the company that you're with wants you to do just that. And they don't see that you can be successful outside of that.

He added to the Belfast Telegraph: "So I had to do '#willpower' all by myself - fund it, pay for it. There's a lot at stake. You don't succeed, you mess up your group. Very few people succeed outside their group when their group is successful. So it's been a hurdle."

will has since enjoyed huge success with songs including 'Scream & Shout' and 'This Is Love'.

Details of a fundraising concert to aid the Boston Marathon victims have been revealed today (May 3) and the event will boast an impressive line up of musical performers.

Reformed boyband New Kids On The Block have been confirmed to play at the event, which will take place at Boston's TD Garden on May 30.
The concert has been titled Boston Strong: An Evening of Support and Celebration and will also see a live set from natives Aerosmith and rockers Boston, who love the city so much they named their act after it.
Malawi government slams "demanding" Madonna

Madonna has come under fire yet again from the Malawi government following a recent charity visit.

As previously reported, president Joyce Banda recently attacked the music star by claiming the singer failed to meet promises regarding building schools in the African country.

The government has now issued a statement suggesting that Madonna acted in an ungrateful manner during her visit, comparing her to other celebrities who have made the trip to Malawi without incident. They said:

"If the argument is that because she is an internationally renowned star, Madonna believes she deserved to be treated differently from other visiting foreigners, it is worth making her aware that Malawi has hosted many international stars, including Chuck Norris, Bono, David James, Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville who have never demanded state attention or decorum despite their equally dazzling stature."

The statement added: "In the feeling of Madonna, the Malawi government and its leadership should have rolled out a red carpet and blasted the 21-gun salute in her honour because she believes that as a musician, the whiff of whose repute flies across international boundaries, she automatically is a candidate for VIP treatment."

The statement also suggests that Madonna is looking for gratitude from Malawi for adopting two children from the country.

The leader of Malawi has claimed Madonna hasn't fulfilled her promise of building ten new schools in the country.

As previously reported, the Queen of Pop recently made a trip to the African country to help launch ten schools which she claims to have funded.

The singer has two adopted children from Malawi - David Banda and Mercy James.

However, president Joyce Banda believes that Madonna isn't being truthful when it comes to speaking about her charity work. She said:

"Where are the ten schools she has built? In some cases she just renovated an already existing block. No one should just come here and say 'I'm building a classroom' without needs assessment. It is an insult to the people."

Trevor Neilson, who manages Madonna's charity work, told The Sun: "Every single one of the schools is a free standing structure."

P-Funk leader, George Clinton, has set up an online fund to help him keep his recording studio after a Florida judge ruled last month that the funk master has no rights to any music he created from 1976 to 1983.

The singer's IndieGoGo page says that Clinton is aiming to "re-create" classic tracks and lists the studio equipment he needs in order to do so. In return fans will get autographed CDs and T-shirts.

The 70-year-old Parliament-Funkadelic frontman is hoping to raise $50,000.

Clinton contributed to Primal Scream's 'Give Out But Don't Give Up' album.

Iconic filmmaker David Lynch has put both his creativity and celebrity to fantastic use by launching a $1 million fund for soldiers affected by trauma.

The 'Twin Peaks' mastermind attended a special gala for The David Lynch Foundation in Los Angeles on Saturday, December 3 and unveiled the generous donation (£625,000), which will enable soldiers to experience meditation courses in order to help them deal with the traumas of war.

Lynch, who fully endorses Transcendental Meditation, hopes the fund will allow veterans to learn the techniques as a method of coping and recovery. A statement on his Foundation's website explains:

"The David Lynch Foundation works in collaboration with government agencies and national and local veterans' outreach organizations to provide individual and group programs to heal the wounds of post-traumatic stress disorder among veterans, support the families of veterans with PTSD who are hospitalized or have lost their lives due to combat or suicide, and empower military personnel and military students with the tools to promote mental and physical resiliency."

MAC AIDS Fund Raises More Than $200 Million Through Sale of VIVA GLAM Lipstick

NEW YORK, Feb. 17, 2011 -- The MAC AIDS Fund, the third largest corporate donor and fifth largest private donor for HIV/AIDS causes in the U.S., announced today that it has raised more than $200 million to date through the sales of its VIVA GLAM Lipsticks and Lipglasses.

Record-breaking sales of the signature VIVA GLAM Lipstick and Lipglass have more than doubled funding over a three-year period allowing the MAC AIDS Fund to reach this milestone ahead of schedule. Last year's annual VIVA GLAM campaign led by celebrity spokespersons Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper resulted in the most VIVA GLAM sales to date in the MAC AIDS Fund's 16-year history.

"This is a historic moment at the MAC AIDS Fund and we are so thankful to the literally millions of MAC customers and make-up artists as well as our outspoken and outrageous spokesmodels for their incredible support of the VIVA GLAM campaign. At the same time we are inspired by the great work of our grantees who everyday fight against HIV/AIDS, empowering people to protect themselves, reducing stigma and helping ease the burden of the disease on people, families, and communities," Nancy Mahon, Global Executive Director of the MAC AIDS Fund, Senior Vice President, MAC Cosmetics.

Recognizing the unprecedented momentum of VIVA GLAM's recent success and the urgent needs of those affected by HIV/AIDS, the MAC AIDS Fund and Lady Gaga will partner again in 2011, announcing an ambitious fundraising goal that aims to bring total VIVA GLAM sales to $250 million by the XIX International AIDS Conference in July, 2012.

Since the campaign was established in 1994 by co-founders Frank Toskan and Frank Angelo, MAC Cosmetics has committed every cent of the selling price of VIVA GLAM Lipstick and Lipglass sales to the MAC AIDS Fund for programs that help women, men, and children affected by HIV/AIDS. This 100 percent giving model is unique, as MAC Cosmetics underwrites all of the costs associated with making and selling the product. From Ru Paul to Lady Gaga, there have been 20 celebrity spokespersons supporting the VIVA GLAM campaign and helping to raise awareness for the cause.

"Helping to lead the fight against HIV/AIDS is engrained in MAC's culture. Each day our artists personally help us raise money for the MAC AIDS Fund through the sales of our VIVA GLAM Lipsticks and Lipglasses. The MAC AIDS Fund is the heart and soul of our company and we are committed to helping empower those with HIV/AIDS and those who love them to take charge of their health," John Demsey, Chairman, MAC AIDS Fund and Group President, Estee Lauder Companies.

"I am incredibly passionate about this campaign and strongly believe the MAC AIDS Fund has the power to create a global movement not only to combat HIV/AIDS but also to encourage men and women everywhere to protect themselves. I feel honored to be part of such an important cause. My new VIVA GLAM lipsticks are intended to be a reminder to people to live passionately, but do it safely. Be your own biggest fan and protect yourself," Lady Gaga, MAC VIVA GLAM Spokesperson.

The grants from this year's VIVA GLAM campaign focus on reaching marginalized populations such as men having sex with men, African Americans, and women as well as funding in regions most in need, including Washington, D.C. and the rural South in the U.S. and international regions such as South Africa and the Caribbean.

ABOUT THE MAC AIDS FUND
The MAC AIDS Fund, the heart and soul of MAC Cosmetics, was established in 1994 to support men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS globally. MAF is a pioneer in HIV/AIDS funding, providing financial support to organizations working with underserved regions and populations.
