THE FLAMIN’ GROOVIES ANNOUNCE FIRST UK SHOWS IN MORE THAN 30 YEARS

June 30th – Hard Rock Calling – Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

July 2nd – Scala, London

Wednesday 22nd May – Having just completed a successful tour of Japan and Australia, The Flamin' Groovies have returned in full force! The Cyril Jordan, Chris Wilson, George Alexander line-up that rocked the UK, Europe and the US from 1971 – 1980 are back in action. With the addition of Victor Penalosa on drums the band are set to return to British soil after more than 30 years to play a show at London’s Scala on the 2nd of July following a performance at Hard Rock Calling at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on 30th June. The Flamin’ Groovies Scala tickets go on-sale 9am on Friday 24th May are available from www.livenation.co.uk or www.ticketmaster.co.uk.

The Flamin’ Groovies story goes all the way back to 1965 when the band began as the Chosen Few in their hometown of San Francisco, California. After a name change and a self-released 10 inch album called “Sneakers”, which sold amazingly well, the band caught the attention of Columbia who signed them up and sent them into the studio with a big budget to record their first real album, “Supersnazz”, on the Epic label. Their next two albums were on Kama Sutra (home of their heroes, The Lovin' Spoonful): “Flamingo”, and the now revered classic “Teenage Head”. Lead singer Roy Loney left the band right after that and lead guitarist Cyril Jordan moved the group to England with Chris Wilson (formerly of Loose Gravel) taking over as front man.

They continued their style of straight ahead guitar driven rock n' roll but this time with a more 60's rather than 50's influence. A few singles on United Artists, recorded at the legendary Rockfield Studios in Wales with Dave Edmunds producing, followed in the early '70s. In '76 they signed to Sire Records, who released three true gems of power pop: “Shake Some Action”, “Flamin' Groovies Now”, and “Jumpin' In The Night”.

Another lineup change ensued in the next decade with Wilson moving to England and joining the Barracudas. The Groovies continued on thru the 80's and into the early '90s touring Australia and Europe, putting out a fine but overlooked album called Rock Juice and then finally calling it quits. Jordan formed a new band called Magic Christian while Wilson released solo albums in Europe.

Now in 2013, Jordan, Wilson and original founding member and bass player Geroge Alexander, have reunited for the first time since 1981. They're joined by drummer Victor Penalosa, a fine musician in his own right who faithfully recreates the style heard on the classic recordings while at the same time adding his own flavor. The foursome has gone back into the studio to finish up long lost recordings as well as cutting brand new material. They recently toured Japan and Australia, returning home to San Francisco to do a show that sold out in less than 24 hours. Fans have been delighted with what is being called "a dream set list", including original songs the band has never performed before onstage. Newcomers are asking, "Why haven't I ever heard of this group?" It's hard to say just why the group hasn't gotten the attention they deserve (at least in the USA) but they're back to give everyone another chance at hearing and seeing just why those in the know consider them one of the greatest rock n' roll bands ever.

Macklemore discusses rise to fame: 'Pre-Internet, you had to rap in street battles'

Rap sensation Macklemore has explained that while his chart success was very sudden, he has been working hard to make a name for himself in the music world since he was just a kid.

During a revealing interview with Billboard for the new issue's cover story, the 'Thrift Shop' hitmaker confessed that he was taking part in street rap battles when he was a youngster to try and gain respect from those already in the game: "This was pre-Internet as a way to get your music out. So I had to do shows, but I was too young. Freestyling on the street or in the park was where I honed the craft."

He went on to unveil his dark past, talking about how he often preferred drugs to school: "It was pre-gentrification of Seattle's Central District. And I wasn't going to class and I was doing a bunch of drugs and drinking. So my parents put me in a predominantly white school in the North End and then I did a program called Running Start, which was like a community college. I never got a chance to climb any kind of social ladder anywhere. I was more into making music-and doing hallucinogenic mushroom voyages."

Discussing his recovery, Macklemore (pictured below with Ryan Lewis) added that while he's clean now he still struggles with 'overindulging': "I tend to be an overindulger in general. Like I've just eaten two bags of chips and I had a shitload of candy from a gas station last night."

"I don't have moderation in my life. I really have to work on it. So with drugs and alcohol, I had no moderation. Smoking weed and drinking hindered my creative process. They were the veil over my eyes. It never really worked for me, in terms of being prolific."

Liam Gallagher has revealed that he "could have been killed" by a peanut.

Speaking to The Sun, the Mancunian said that he suffered a reaction last month to an M&M sweet whilst in a hotel.

The Beady Eye frontman revealed that he now has to carry a syringe in case of any further episodes. He said:

"I've done some stuff over the years but never, never did I think a f**king blue M&M would be the thing that could have killed me. I was in a hotel on holiday and got in about the mini bar. I was bored and hungry, so it's what you do, man. I've always liked M&Ms so I got into them. I had a blue one."

Gallagher continued: "My mouth started to swell up and I could feel it tightening my throat, man. I had to go to the docs and get it checked out straight away. It happened again a couple of weeks after and now I've got to carry a syringe about with me in case of emergencies. Proper Pete Doherty gear."

Travie McCoy opens up about drug abuse: 'I didn't recognise myself and it scared me'

Gym Class Heroes' frontman Travie McCoy has opened up about his battle with prescription medication in a new candid interview and explained that the turning point came while looking at his own reflection.

Speaking to VH1's Behind The Music, the 'Billionaire' hitmaker explained that he scared himself "one morning" while searching for pills in his bathroom cabinet and that encouraged him to actively stay sober:

"I was just, like, sick of trying to feed this monster. One morning, I woke up and I went to the bathroom, straight to the medicine cabinet to find my pills, and I looked in the mirror for a good half-hour, just staring at myself. I'm like, 'Who is this guy?'"

"My face was sunken in. I had these awful rings under my eyes. It wasn't me. I knew if I didn't do something, I was gonna end up dead. That was the morning I decided to break the cycle.

This episode of Behind The Music will air on Sunday, October 14 in the USA and McCoy added that he "wouldn't wish that type of pain and agony on my worst enemy".
