The 'A Team' star is good friends with the One Direction singer and he told the Mirror about Styles' softer side.

Sheeran said that the 'Kiss You' man recently spent up to £3,000 on pizza to give to people who were having to sleep rough on the street. He said:

"We were in LA about three months ago and [Harry] had a day off. He spent two or three grand on Domino's pizza and drove around giving them out to homeless people. That's an amazing story."

The 'Lego House' star added: "People write about Harry in a negative way because of his love life, but he does stuff like that a lot. He's a pretty genuine guy."

The 'Little Things' singer has been nominated for Villain of the Year alongside the likes of British Prime Minister David Cameron, 'Gangnam Style' performer Psy, Skrillex and rapper Azealia Banks.

Speaking to The Mirror about the odd nomination, Styles explained that he hasn't done anything to make him seem like a villian so winning would be entertaining and somewhat ridiculous:

"I hope I win. You've got to take the rough with the smooth but I don't really feel like I've done anything that bad. Should be fun!"

The NME Awards ceremony is due to take place on February 27 at London's Troxy.

Meanwhile, the hitmaker will celebrate his 19th birthday tomorrow (February 1) and One Direction have asked fans to design and send in personalised cards for the occasion, with the best one being given a "surprise".

The British based boyband made the trip to Accra in the African country as part of Comic Relief's Red Nose Day.

They were pictured in a school full of local children as they did their part for the fundraising charity initiative.

Speaking to the Mirror, singer Harry Styles said that it was near impossible to remain unaffected by what they saw on their trip. He said:

"We all had moments. If you get involved in it and you don't cry you're superhuman. We've seen appeal films before so we thought we knew what it's like, but when you're there and you get the smells, your eyes hurt from the smoke, you cough, you're feeling it all."

The 'Kiss You' star continued: "The crazy thing is, when I went to school, not one person wanted to be there. Yet you go into a school in Ghana and every child loves it."

One Direction meanwhile are set to perform new Comic Relief charity single 'One Way or Another' at this year's BRIT Awards on February 20.

The floppy-haired singer will turn 19 on February 1 and a message shared via the lads' official Twitter page earlier this afternoon (January 30) called for creative efforts to be sent in for the occasion:

"It's @Harry_Styles' birthday on Friday! Time to design a card for him! + a SURPRISE for the best! 1DHQ x #Harry19."

So far, the site hosting the virtual cards has received hundreds of submissions (shown below) and it was promised that the best one would receive a "surprise", although the details of the treat are yet to be revealed.

The pair were romantically linked when they were spotted leaving clubs and on late night drives together on a number of occasions.

However, Delevingne has quashed speculation they were ever in a relationship, telling Grazia: “I know Harry [Styles], he’s a good friend of mine, you know, it was... the whole thing is that everyone’s been linked to him. Alexa [Chung], Pixie [Geldof], we’ve all been around him and then, 'Aah, they’re going out.'"

Delevingne, 20, found herself facing the wrath of One Direction fans after she was linked to heartthrob Styles.

She added: "One week I had 40,000 followers and then I had 70,000 on Twitter and suddenly it’s like Mrs Harry Styles, die, b*tch, die. And it’s funny because I’ve always been quite good at taking criticism because I criticise myself a lot, generally. Some of them can be quite funny and creative about it. The singer had just returned from a trip away to France, where the pop group collected a gong at the NRJ Music Awards.

A photographer was looking for snaps of Styles outside of his London home but ended up asking the star for an autograph for his daughter Ella.

The singer duly accepted - but wrote that the child should tell her father to "go away". He wrote:

"To Ella, please tell your daddy to go away. Love from Harry x."

As previously reported, One Direction have been named as one of the richest reality TV stars around.

It is said that they have pocketed £20 million each since leaving the X Factor in 2010.

Speaking to Yahoo! OMG, the lads explained that they caught her singing along to their set at the recent Jingle Bell Ball, which she attended with One Direction's Harry Styles:

"Taylor Swift actually is a big fan of ours, she was singing along to 'Standing in the Dark' at the Jingle Bell Ball.”

"She was there with Harry Styles, came up to after and was like ‘I really love you guys, I’ve watched all your videos and love Standing in the Dark.”

The heartthrobs added: “She said ‘I hope you release that in the US because it’s really great’.”

The pop duo were recently pictured holding hands and kissing, but an argument on holiday reportedly ended the relationship.

Simon Cowell, who helped create One Direction on the X Factor, told the Daily Star that he was "impressed" by Styles landing Swift. He said:

"Harry doesn't hang around, so yeah, I was impressed about Taylor."

He added: "I don't worry about the One Direction lads because I speak to them a lot. If there are ever any issues then we deal with them quietly as friends. I told them to treat this as the best time of their lives and don’t treat it as work."

The music mogul also commented on his own management style, revealing:

"I don't believe in the horrible idea of me or the manager telling the guys what they can and can't do. If they really go nuts then I would step in but having a couple of tattoos and a couple of girlfriends isn't a problem."

The pop group's global success means that a host of parodies and jokes relating to the 'What Makes You Beautiful' group have been uploaded online.

The latest is a video of felines that look like One Direction, with the pop stars pictured next to their cat equivalant.

As previously reported, singer Liam Payne has thanked his fans after winning the Best Internationl Group NRJ Music award in France recently.

He took to Twitter to call the group's fans the "best ever" as the band's global success goes from strength to strength.

Their appearance in Cannes came only days after a jetsetting trip to Japan as their quest for world domination continues.

As previously reported, the British based boyband landed the Best International Group gong at the NRJ Music Awards in France on Saturday (January 26).

The band performed their latest single 'Kiss You' before collecting the award at the glitzy Cannes event.

Taking to Twitter after their win, Liam Payne said that their Directioners are the best fans around. He said:

"So happy with our award from @NRJhitmusiconly! I love all you guys soo much , thank you for been best fans everrrr!"

Other winners on the night included Psy, who won three awards including International Song of the Year and Music Video of the Year, and Carly Rae Jepsen, who landed the International Breakthrough of the Year gong.
