Azerbaijan win Eurovision

This year’s Eurovision song contest was quite an upset last night (May 14), as bookie favourites France, Ireland and the UK ended up with mid-table results while Azerbaijan took the title.

Although the competition in Dusseldorf was viewed in the UK as a battle of boy bands, with 00s group Blue behind the Union Jack and twins Jedward up for Ireland, Europe seemed to disagree and voted heavily for power-pop duo Ell and Nikki’s romantic duet ‘Running Scared’.

Favourite to win, Amaury Vassili of France, came in 15th place while outsiders Italy managed to shock everyone by landing in at second place.

Check out the music video for the winning entry ‘Running Scared’ below:

Jedward want to be “bigger than ABBA”

Irish duo Jedward are characteristically confident about their Eurovision Song Contest entry, saying that their win tonight will rocket them to heights of fame to rival ABBA.

Twins John and Edward Grimes are second favourites to win the competition tonight with their track 'Lipstick', only coming in behind France’s entry, tenor vocalist Amaury Vassili. Irish fans have even been seen in Dusseldorf this week sporting cardboard versions of the pair’s famous quiffs.

Megastars ABBA famously won the contest in 1974 with their song ‘Waterloo’. The Swedish foursome went on to become one of the most successful acts of all time.

Speaking to The Sun, John Grimes boasted: "We want to be bigger than Abba."

Edward added: "When Abba were on the contest it was all about the outfits, and we want to do the same. We can't wait to be really successful all around the world."

Jedward avoid female temptation

Jedward, who are set to represent their native Ireland at this year's Eurovision, have opened up about their sexuality in the latest issue of GT Magazine.

The twins, John and Edward, explained that despite being at the mercy of throngs of female fans they can't react because the press would be all over it and would use the stories as entertainment:

"We know all these girls but we can’t go out with them because it’d be a huge press story"

The pair also addressed rumours about their sexuality, and explained:

"It happened to Justin Timberlake, Justin Bieber, the Jonas Brothers. You’ve got to realise what comes with being in the public eye. We don’t mind if people call us gay; it’s not a big deal. We like girls."

In addition to talking about their abstinence, they also debuted a new, edgy look in the magazine which will be available from Wednesday, April 20. Watch Jedward's latest home video here:

Jedward have revealed that they have enlisted a team of very successful songwriters to pen hits for their next album.

The twins have been mostly known for their novelty cover versions of other artists’ hits, but this time around, the pair are looking for some original material for their follow up to this year’s ‘Planet Jedward’.

In an interview with the Daily Star, Edward Grimes said: "We’re thinking about the next album and the next single.

"We’ve got people writing them who have written for JLS, Backstreet Boys, Westlife and Take That," he revealed.

When asked about this year’s ‘X Factor’ joke act Wagner, the twins insisted that they will still reign supreme over that special brand of ex-contestants.

John Grimes said: "We’re only 19 and Wagner’s about 50. I think we’re the real winners because we’ve got Louis Walsh and we’ve got a really great team around us."
