The Canadian had teased fans on Twitter recently by suggesting that he will feature on the show and also perform too, tweeting:

"Maybe im hosting and performing on SNL...maybe. :)."

Music industry bible Billboard have reported that the singer will appear on the comedy show on February 9.

The slot comes after the release of his new acoustic album, 'Believe Acoustic', which is due to be unleashed on January 29.

The record will feature a handful of new tracks, as well as reworked versions of songs that originally featured on his 2012 record 'Believe'.

Some members of internet community 4chan started a thread to encourage naive Bieber fans to self-harm and upload photos of themselves online in response to his recent alleged marijuana use.

They uploaded photos of people self-harming onto Twitter and the hashtag 'cutforbieber' soon became a trending topic. A message on 4chan said:

"Lets start a cut yourself for bieber campaign. Tweet a bunch of pics of people cutting themselves and claim we did it because bieber was smoking weed."

However, the prank caused a huge outcry online and the page was eventually removed.

Miley Cyrus similarly decried the stunt, retweeting a message that said:

"#cutforbieber? Cutting is NOT something to joke about. There are people who are actually suffering from self-harm, this is so disrespectful."

Writing on social networking site Twitter, the 'Boyfriend' hitmaker teased that he might be stepping in to do double duties on America's iconic show Saturday Night Live soon:

"maybe im hosting and performing on SNL...maybe. :)"

It's been a turbulent weekend for Bieber after photographs of him smoking a suspicious looking cigarette at a party surfaced and he posted a couple of apologetic tweets that alluded to the pictures on Saturday:

"Everyday growing and learning. Trying to be better. U get knocked down, u get up. I see all of u. I hear all of u. I never want to let any of you down. I love u."

Despite the trials and tribulations of being a teen superstar, Bieber is set to release his long awaited 'Believe Acoustic' album on January 29.

The Canadian singer is a fan of body art and he already has a number of tattoos on his skin.

The 'Believe' star has now revealed a new tattoo that he had made in honour of his grandfather, with a Canadian ice hockey theme running throughout.

In a photo on Instagram, Bieber announced that he has had a picture of the Stratford Culliton's logo inked onto his left shoulder blade. He said:

"My grandfather always took me to the stratford culliton every friday night. This is for [you] Grampa."

He later uploaded a photo of himself showing off the tattoo underneath an orange top at one of his recent shows.

Right before his Salt Lake City show on Saturday night, the Canadian superstar stopped by Primary Children’s Medical Center to meet with seven-year-old fan Millie Flamm, who’s been battling leukaemia for the past three years.

An online campaign was started after the young girl was too ill to attend Bieber's concert, with her dad Brad Flamm, telling the local ABC station, “A friend posted a picture on Facebook, and it’s been shared thousands of times.”

A number of fans took to Twitter to share their delight at Justin's kind gesture.

While one wrote: "I'm so happy Justin went to visit Millie!! :)" another fan wrote: "Millie met Justin in the Medical Center before his show.He put a smile on her little face ♥ (sic)."

Bieber's show comes just days after photographs surfaced of him reportedly smoking marijuana with friends in a hotel room.

The teenage heartthrob took to Twitter yesterday to share his thoughts amidst the scandal surrounding him: ''Everyday growing and learning. Trying to be better. U get knocked down, u get up. I see all of u. I hear all of u. I never want to let any of you down. I love u.

He added: ''I'm ready. We are ready. See u all tomorrow and everyday after that. Back on tour tomorrow. Ready to see u all smile. Time to do what I'm supposed to be doing. Performing (sic).''

US website TMZ obtained images of the Canadian superstar which were reportedly taken on January 2nd - a day after a photographer tragically died while chasing down Bieber's car.

The photographs show Bieber holding a suspicious looking cigarette - leading many people to speculate whether or not he was smoking marijuana at the party.

Bieber - who has not commented on the controversial claims - took to Twitter today to address his fans following his difficult week: ''Everyday growing and learning. Trying to be better. U get knocked down, u get up. I see all of u. I hear all of u. I never want to let any of you down. I love u.

He added: ''I'm ready. We are ready. See u all tomorrow and everyday after that. Back on tour tomorrow. Ready to see u all smile. Time to do what I'm supposed to be doing. Performing (sic).''

Earlier this week Bieber issued a statement about the incident involving the photographer, calling for a change in law to protect celebrities and photographers. The 'Believe' star said:

"While I was not present nor directly involved with this tragic accident, my thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim."

He continued: "Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves."

The singer-and-actor is finding it difficult to get back to work following his fun festive break.

Timberlake admits he over-indulged over Christmas, and is now suffering the consequences.

He jokingly asked fans on Twitter: "How long does it take you guys/girls to get going in the new year after the holidays??? I think I still have a sugar hangover from Christmas (sic)."

Timberlake also responded to a couple of replies on the social networking site.

When one fan wrote: "I dunno but I'm still eating like its Christmas .." the hunky star replied "Hahaha! Me too!!! #itsaproblem."

Timberlake is currently enjoying life as a married man after walking down the aisle with Hollywood actress Jessica Biel at the end of last year.

After tying the knot in Italy in October, the pair revealed: "It's great to be married, the ceremony was beautiful and it was so special to be surrounded by our family and friends."

Speaking to Top of the Pops magazine, the 'Boyfriend' hitmaker explained that women often trouble him and he struggles to understand them sometimes:

"In every relationship the boy definitely has to wait more for the girl than the girl has to wait for the boy. I'm used to it. Getting annoyed won't get you anywhere anyway."

"You have to know when it is better to leave a girl alone, to wait for her to realise she is yours. And yes, sometimes they can give you a headache."

When asked "I have my qualities. I can be attentive and I have a lot of patience. And I like to surprise my girlfriend with nice things, romantic trips, such as a picnic or something. For girls, it's more important to be loved than to constantly get great gifts. Girls are cuddly and affectionate, but so are boys."

Bieber meanwhile simply said on Twitter: "#writing."

The 'Believe' man meanwhile earlier tweeted about his plans for the new year ahead, suggesting that he is going to prove his doubters wrong. He said:
