Michael Jackson's family lawyer: 'Wrongful death trial could have been avoided'

It has been revealed that the family of Michael Jackson approached concert promoters AEG Live twice earlier this year in hope of settling the 'wrongful death' trial without the extensive court dates and appearances.

Jackson's family filed a suit against AEG bosses in which they accuse them of ignoring the fact that the King of Pop was seriously ill during his rehearsals for the proposed 'This Is It' 50-date tour and it is now in its fourth week.

Katherine Jackson's lawyer, Kevin Boyle, told the jury that the 'Thriller' superstar's relatives tried to settle the case on a more low-key level in both January and March of this year, but their requests were ignored.

Marvin Putnam, an attorney for AEG, hit back at the claims and said: "We don't settle matters that are utterly baseless. We believe that is the case in this matter. I can't see why we would consider a settlement as anything other than a shakedown."

Meanwhile, associate producer Alif Sankey took the stand recently and explained that he "had a very strong feeling that Michael was dying".

Kevin Jonas spills on his group's new material: 'Frank Ocean influenced us'

Jonas Brothers member Kevin has opened up about the group's forthcoming new album and revealed that they were inspired by several contemporary artists' sounds.

Speaking to Digital Spy, he explained that Frank Ocean was a big influence on them this time around: "Yeah, definitely Frank Ocean was an influence. There were so many people that influenced this next album, just more the direction and the tone. We took our time. We all did individual things for a very long time, and we needed to."

He also admitted that fans will be able to tell the boys have grown up and are older with the new record as the content is more mature: "Yeah, oh definitely. We're all in our 20s and I'm 25 and married. The content is different than it was before. We're not talking about simple little things anymore, we're talking about actual things in life that matter. And I think that people have grown with us as well."

"Our fans that were 16, 18 are now also in their 20s and so they're dealing with real life issues and starting to have real relationships and families and things like that. It's definitely pretty intense and really cool to see."

Kevin Jonas (pictured below with wife Danielle) even revealed that he recently met some of the One Direction heartthrobs, adding: "One Direction's great - I just met Harry a couple of days ago actually, and he's just super nice. I'm just happy that music and pop is coming back."

Venus In Motion returns with first album in six years

Venus In Motion is the alter ego of Angel Johnson, one of the pioneering women in electronic music. As one of the first and only female DJs on the circuit at the start of the 90’s, she was a regular at infamous house haunts such as Venus Nottingham, The Haçienda and Ministry of Sound. As songwriter/producer, Venus In Motion, Angel returns with the superbly, self-produced album number two, Somebody’s Heaven, featuring a collection of down-tempo, vocal driven, summer grooves, fit for the discerning listener’s blissed out moments.

Angel Johnson’s metamorphosis into Venus In Motion was a long one. As house music grew to be a cultural reference point in the 90’s, she blazed a trail for women in the male-dominated world of club DJs. She had to work harder, mix better and generally take the roof off, to gain equal opportunities. However this determination and work ethic served her well and by the early 90’s she was an in demand, internationally recognised DJ.

Although a producer of many dance floor hits in 1994 on Hi Life Records as Angelheart producing with Dean Marriot (D’Ramirez), Angel has always written mellower songs. Since childhood she was intrigued by the emotive power and melody of music, citing early musical influences including Kate Bush, Cat Stevens and Gladys Knight.

In the early 90s when the genre ‘chill out’ was born, bands of the decade like Massive Attack and Nightmares On Wax further inspired Angel to record the songs that had gathered in her head. By 2005 she had invested in her own studio and had written and produced her first album as Venus In Motion, Walking In Limbo. After relocating to Barcelona, the album was snapped up by Spain’s leading electronic music imprint Blanco Y Negro Records and Venus In Motion began to appear in down-tempo playlists everywhere.

Somebody's Heaven sharpens the Venus In Motion sound, mixing organic with electronic, weaving melody and melancholy in every tale told. Like many of today’s successful female writers, lyrically, this album speaks from the heart about the personal turmoil of suffocating relationships (Let Me Breathe) and personal change (On The Down), to wavering friendships using tongue-in-cheek metaphors (Friends) and coming across the deluded know-it-all types (Wonderful).

The album features a stunning array of guest talent. Angel comments, “Although Venus In Motion is a solo project, like many writers/producers in the genre I use different singers and musicians to bring my work to life. I don’t have the restrictions of a traditional band and can change the formula at any time.”

Guest vocalists include the award winning filmmaker Cherry Mars and rising talent Jack Kenworthy; guest musicians such as Crazy P drummer Matt Klose, and Nottingham super-producer and writer, Chris Bucknall.

The album also features the pre-released up-tempo single, Crazy People, which thanks to the heavy weaponry of Max Sedgley (Sunday Best Recordings) on remix duties, earned itself a spot in the DMC Buzz Charts and on the airwaves and in DJ sets across the world.

Angel said: “I never really know how to categorize my music - although it resides under the chill out umbrella I don't really see it as chill out. I think of it more as pop which has been influenced by cooler genres like soul, jazz, folk and dub. My style of writing isn't very cryptic, my lyrics normally tell an obvious tale - a story with a beginning a middle, and an end.”

Available as a digital download with bonus tracks and video from iTunes, Somebody’s Heaven is a long player that will no doubt find its way onto the playlists of Ibiza’s beach bars and relaxed sun terraces; a perfect summer soundtrack.

The Jonas Brothers to release new single this spring

The Jonas Brothers' newest single is set to drop this spring.

The newly reformed pop-rock trio - comprising brothers Nick, Joe and Kevin - are releasing 'Pom Poms' later this year.

'On Air with Ryan Seacrest' reports that the band have already filmed the music video for the track in New Orleans "complete with the cheerleading squads from the Saints and Hornets as well as the marching band for Southern University."

The news comes after eldest sibling Kevin announced the band has finished work on their fifth studio album, which is due for release at some point in 2013.

He explained: "We wanted to take a little extra time on it to make sure it was right, and we've been working for almost a year now on it and it's time and now we're back on the road."

At the end of last year, Nick revealed what fans can expect from the trio's new music.

He said: "The vibe right now that we're trying to create, we've kind of had a really memorable and a career we're really thankful for up until this time, [and now we're] hoping to create an experience for our fans that is really personal and shows a little bit deeper look into what our lives have been like, as far as lyrics. But, musically we're trying to push ourselves and continue to grow and get better.

He added: "We're talking about some really real subjects and things that are meaningful to us both in the present time, in the past, and it's just now out there for people to hear."

Jonas Brothers sued by "crushed" fan

Jonas Brothers are facing a lawsuit from a fan who alleges she was crushed at one of their concerts.

Ashleigh Johnson claims that she suffered severe mental, emotional and physical injuries after being pushed into a barrier when the band played at Los Angeles' Grove shopping centre in May 2010.

She says the weight of the crowd's push made her "agonizingly crushed" at the front of the audience.

Johnson is suing the band as well as Caruso Management, who look after the venue.

As previously reported, Jonas Brothers revealed their highlights of 2012 recently, saying: "We've had a pretty amazing year, thanks to all of you with being able to go back on tour together, play shows again, be in the studio. Kevin with 'Married to Jonas.' Joe with his solo record and all that happened there."

Youngest brother Nick, who is currently starring in the Broadway production of 'How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying,' recently claimed that the band were in no hurry to reunite.

"Nothing has happened yet, but there's a lot in our heart to write about and we're about to get started. In the next coming weeks, we're going to start writing together, and the future is near, which we're looking forward to."

Joe, who released his solo debut, 'Fast Life,' last year, also added: "It's going to be, I think, our best record yet. I'm so excited."

The Jonas Brothers have been dishing out advice to this year's Grammy Award hopefuls, including former award rival Adele.

The pop group and Adele were pitched in the same Best New Artist category in 2009, with Adele eventually reigning supreme.

Adele is of course heading to the Grammys with six nominations this time around - and when asked by MTV if he had any advice for Adele, Kevin Jonas said:

"To Adele...she's only like one of the best artists ever. It's cool."

Joe Jonas meanwhile had words of advice for this year's nominees in the Best New Artist category, which include Nicki Minaj and Skrillex. He said:

"I think, go in knowing that you're a winner already. You got that far, you should feel like a champion. I believe Norah Jones said it: Sometimes it can be a curse. You get scared if you're gonna win. I'm not saying there's a curse on Adele - she's amazing! - but a lot of times there's a lot of artists that didn't end up winning that became huge, so you're a winner [regardless]."
