Speaking to his hometown newspaper, The Minneapolis Star Tribune, Prince explained that he wants to pave the way for young artists as he finds them more exciting:

"I don’t have time for old people, I want to work with young people.”

Referring to his new backing band, 3rdEyeGirl, he added that now is the time to let them have their moment: "I have my legacy, now it’s time for their legacy. They’re a Minneapolis band, too.”

Prince, meanwhile, has just finished a headlining North American tour and will perform next in July when he travels to Montreux.

As previously reported, 34-year-old Kelly was found unresponsive at his home last week (May 1) in Atlanta before being pronounced dead in hospital.

It has been reported that his mother told police that her son had been taking drugs before his death.

His funeral was held on Thursday (May 9) at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church and TMZ reports that a number of mourners echoed Kris Kross' famed fashion style by wearing their trousers backwards.

His rap partner Chris Smith meanwhile said at the service: "My life...it ain't ever gonna be the same, but I just hope our legacy for hip-hop is never forgotten. I'm gonna do my part to make sure Chris' legacy will live on."

The French pair, who recently shot to No.1 in countries all over the world with their new single, told Obsession.fr that asking him to appear on their record was an easy decision because they loved his style and music, and were impressed with his 'elegance':

"It felt natural to invite him to be part of our album. He's a born performer in every way, who oozes elegance. He's not always had the opportunity to show he can be an excellent singer, even though he has earned his place in the legacy of mythical performers.”

Nile Rodgers, who also appears on the 'Get Lucky' single with Pharrell and Daft Punk, also recently described his contribution to the cut as "natural":

"About a year ago, I get a knock on the door – first a virtual one and then a real knock – from Guy-Manuel and Thomas. The collaboration felt so unbelievably natural that it made me realise that I need to be in the studio with people."

‘Upon Ayr’, the debut album by Fletcher, is a compelling, storytelling record that opens with an ode to the sadness of Jack Kerouac's legacy, closes with the creak of the foot driven mechanical pump of an 1840s western Harmonium and paints scenes of Polynesian whale myths, 1920s synchronised swimming mermaid's dream and the death throes of a love affair.

Written and produced by Fletcher, ‘Upon Ayr’ was recorded in Sydney (‘stolen’ studio time in a university), London (his bathroom and Urchin Studios) and Stockholm (Decibel Studios), with the record mastered in Berlin. Written over two years, while Fletcher was on tour playing bass, guitar and keyboards with friend and fellow Australian artist Sarah Blasko (who features on backing vocals), this is the multi-instrumentalist’s first album.

A founding member of Bluebottle Kiss and, later, The Devoted Few, Fletcher joined Blasko’s band in 2005 moving to London in 2010 to continue touring Europe and the US with her. This time on the road proved to be the perfect environment for Fletcher to write this collection of pictorial tales in what has been, as he explains, a natural and surprisingly simple process:

What you're listening to is demos; fleshed out demos. Throughout 2010 I was on a world tour with the beautiful, Australian singer Sarah Blasko. We played almost 200 shows that year and most of the songs on this record were written during that period. They developed in sound checks, in band rooms, in hotels, on trains, in vans, or humming into iPhones. In early 2011, while still on tour in Australia, I got together with two of my mates to sneak into a university studio where a friend of ours had been studying musicology. Our friend's course had finished months ago but he still had the keycard and security code that opened the doors to the studio. We snuck in around 11pm and would record all night till 4am or 5am, turning off the lights and hiding every 2 hours while the security guard cruised by. We did this for three nights and I recorded the guitar and vocals for around 14 songs.

2011 saw more touring and a little more writing. I recorded more songs in London, this time in my bathroom, two of which (Here Stands The Broken & Swim Through The Mouth Of The Whale) ended up on this album. I thought these and my Uni studio sessions would just be demos, but they sounded pretty good and everyone I played them to said, you should use them as your album. So I did.

Not to say I recorded this whole album in the shower. These songs needed a little more rhythm and pulse, so when I finally got off tour in early 2012 I went into Decibel Studios in a snowy Stockholm to record some extra bits, including bass, drums and the amazing voice of one of my best friends: Sarah Blasko.

I brought my album back to London to mix at Urchin Studios in May 2012, and there you have it. Simple and easy, like I've always wanted but never fully achieved in my past recordings. Most of what you hear is first take, all the vocals were done either in a bathroom on a borrowed mic that would sometimes electrocute my lips, or in a little wooden room I had to hunch to fit into. I've always felt like I've been guilty of over thinking my recordings but this all happened without me even realising it.

So you're hearing the first album from me as Fletcher. Upon Ayr is the album title - a nod to one of first recorded uses of the name Fletcher, in a south-western town of Scotland, Ayr.

ELVIS PRESLEY: LEGACY EDITION (RCA/Legacy 88697 90795 2) has as its cover image the classic Elvis Presley debut LP design that has been paid homage by the Clash (London Calling), Big Audio Dynamite (F-Punk), k.d. lang (Reintarnation), and many others.  The Legacy Edition booklet will contain new liner notes and rare archival photography.

YOUNG MAN WITH THE BIG BEAT will feature one of the most extraordinary books every created at Legacy.  The focal point of the book, spread across its 80 pages, will be a unique, meticulously-researched, day-by-day chronology of Elvis' iconic year, including every concert, every recording date, every television appearance, personal events in Elvis' life, and much more.  A dazzling photo array of memorabilia will illustrate each day and entry.  Concert ticket stubs, RCA memoranda, letters from fans, postcards from Elvis to his family, tour itineraries, magazine covers and articles, trade charts, fan club relics, RCA publicity photos, concert photos, candid photos, and more will be a feast for the eyes and the imagination as 1956 unfolds.  The book was assembled by Elvis expert Roger Semon.

YOUNG MAN WITH THE BIG BEAT was produced for reissue by Ernst Mikael Jorgensen, the respected director of RCA's Elvis catalog for over two decades.  Jorgensen is also the author of the essential research guide, Elvis Presley: A Life In Music (St. Martin's Press, 1998).  He recently completed The Complete Elvis Presley Masters, the 27-CD crown jewel in RCA/Legacy's Elvis 75 campaign of 2010-2011.  That set contains all 711 master recordings released during Elvis' lifetime, housed in a 12-inch square presentation case which includes a coffee table-style book.

After nearly a year and a half of studio recording and singles releases on Sun Records of Memphis, Elvis Presley's recording contract was sold to RCA Records on November 21, 1955.  Elvis arrived at RCA Studios in Nashville on January 10, 1956, with his band, guitarist Scotty Moore, bassist Bill Black, and D.J. Fontana on drums.  It was the beginning of an odyssey that would not only transform the lives of Elvis and his buddies, but would also reshape the face of popular music, entertainment television, radio, concert promotion, movie production and more in America and around the world.

Hi Infidelity was a career-changing album for REO Speedwagon, achieving a staggering number of accolades, chart positions and sales, among them:

• Highest-selling rock LP of 1981
• Has sold close to 10 million copies in the US
• February 21, 1981; the album hit #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart and remained at #1 for 15 weeks straight; taking over John Lennon & Yoko Ono's "Double Fantasy," which previously held the spot for eight weeks
• Remained on Billboard 200 album chart for 101 weeks, unprecedented for an American rock band at the time
• Album certified RIAA Gold and Platinum on February 2, 1981; since been 10x Platinum certified

HI INFIDELITY: 30th ANNIVERSARY EDITION will pair the original album with a second CD of previously unreleased 'Crystal Demos' of nine of the album's 10 songs.  Additionally, the album packaging will include new liner notes by lead singer Kevin Cronin, as well as original lead guitarist Gary Richrath.  Cronin's essay takes the reader on a trip behind the curtain to the roots of many of the songs:  "I remember writing the verses to piano, after sleepwalking into my home studio around 4:00 a.m.... A long simmering response to the bullies of my youth came in the form of 'Tough Guys'... Bruce wrote and sang 'Someone Tonight,' which is one of the gems from the Crystal Demos... 'I wish You Were There' [was] a little gospel thing that I had written in the house where I grew up in suburban Chicago."

Originally formed in Champaign, Illinois, REO Speedwagon is still led today by keyboardist Neal Doughty (founding member since 1967), Kevin Cronin (who has fronted the band since 1972 on lead vocals and guitar), and bassist Bruce Hall (who joined in 1977) – along with lead guitarist Dave Amato (member since 1989) and drummer Bryan Hitt (since 1990).  Together, REO continues to define the essence of two enduring genres, arena rock on the performance side, and classic rock on the audio and video side.  Summer tour dates begin at Los Angeles' Greek Theatre on June 4th and take the band through more than 40 shows where they'll showcase the best of Hi Infidelity with the live performances that audiences have grown to love over the last three decades and continue to sell out time and time again.

NEW YORK, Jan. 25, 2011 -- Simon & Garfunkel's crowning masterpiece will be celebrated in March with BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER: 40th ANNIVERSARY EDITION.  This deluxe DVD+CD set includes the original 11-song album plus the duo's never-before-commercially-available "Songs Of America" CBS television special from 1969 on DVD.  The DVD will also include The Harmony Game: The Making of Bridge Over Troubled Water,  a newly-created documentary on Bridge Over Troubled Water featuring new interviews with Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel.  The package will be available at all physical and digital retail outlets starting March 8, 2011, through Columbia/Legacy, a division of SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT.

BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER: 40th ANNIVERSARY EDITION's full-color, 24-page booklet will include rare photography, memorabilia, and separate liner note essays that will provide overviews of the album production (written by former A&R executive and current TV music supervisor Michael Hill) and the "Songs Of America" TV special (written by Rolling Stone Contributing Editor Anthony DeCurtis).

"Songs Of America" (running time approximately 70 minutes) is a beautiful documentary that had its first and only broadcast November 30, 1969, on the CBS television network.  The special features footage of Simon & Garfunkel on stage, in the recording studio, and traveling on tour.  Interviews and performances are intertwined with news footage from the period, some of it deemed too controversial by original sponsor Bell Atlantic (a subsidiary of AT&T), who in the end refused to air it.  Included is footage from the period of Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy, activist Cesar Chavez,  and the Poor People's March on Washington.  The film is a fascinating depiction of two artists struggling to define their role within a society that is splintering apart.

Alongside "Songs Of America" on the DVD will be the newly-created documentary, The Harmony Game: The Making of Bridge Over Troubled Water.  This insightful feature tells the story behind Simon and Garfunkel's last studio album, Bridge Over Troubled Water.  The album has its legacy shrouded in rock 'n' roll mythology with legendary tales of inspiration, innovation and separation.  Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel share the journey in their own words and reflect back on its impact 40 years later.  Also featured in the documentary are several of the duo's collaborators from the period:  Roy Halee (co-producer/engineer), Hal Blaine (drums), Joe Osborn (bass guitar), Jimmie Haskell (arranger), Mort Lewis (manager), and Charles Grodin (director of the "Songs Of America" documentary).  The feature includes never-before-seen footage, photos and memorabilia.

Simon & Garfunkel reportedly spent more than 800 hours over a two-year span recording what would be their final studio album together.  The title single "Bridge Over Troubled Water" won an unprecedented five Grammy Awards: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Contemporary Song, Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s), and Best Engineered Recording; with Bridge Over Troubled Water winning the top award as Album Of the Year.  (In 1998, "Bridge Over Troubled Water" was voted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame, one of many awards that the song and album have won around the world over the past four decades.)

But the album also marked the end of the road (at least for a couple of years) for the duo, who had been recording together since their 'Tom & Jerry' period in high school (circa 1957).  Simon & Garfunkel went out in style, however, as the sessions for Bridge Over Troubled Water spun off four hit singles that spanned 1969 and '70:

• "The Boxer" b/w "Baby Driver" (released April 1969, Billboard Hot 100 #7, 10 weeks on the chart);
• "Bridge Over Troubled Water" b/w "Keep the Customer Satisfied" (released January 1970, Billboard Hot 100 #1 (6 weeks at #1), 14 weeks on the chart, certified RIAA gold);
• "Cecilia" b/w "The Only Living Boy In New York" (released April 1970, Billboard Hot 100 #4, 13 weeks on the chart, certified RIAA gold); and
• "El Condor Pasa (If I Could)" b/w "Why Don't You Write Me" (released September 1970, Billboard Hot 100 #18, 11 weeks on the chart).

The Bridge Over Troubled Water album, released January 26, 1970, reached #1 in the March 7th issue of Billboard, where it spent 10 weeks at #1, on its way to an 85-week stay on the chart, and 8-times platinum RIAA certification.  Starting March 7th, the album and title track spent five weeks simultaneously at #1, a rare achievement for any artist before or since.

In the UK, the album and title track both debuted on the same date, February 21st, and both subsequently went to #1.  The album went on to spend 41 weeks at #1, ranking it inside the Top 5 all-time Most Weeks At #1; and 307 total weeks on the UK national chart, ranking it inside the Top 10 all-time Most Weeks On the Chart.  At the BRIT Awards in 1977, Bridge Over Troubled Water was named the Best International Album Of the Past 25 Years.
