Electro-duo Daft Punk have revealed that collaborating with Pharrell Williams was a "natural" step for them.

The French pair, who recently shot to No.1 in countries all over the world with their new single, told Obsession.fr that asking him to appear on their record was an easy decision because they loved his style and music, and were impressed with his 'elegance':

"It felt natural to invite him to be part of our album. He's a born performer in every way, who oozes elegance. He's not always had the opportunity to show he can be an excellent singer, even though he has earned his place in the legacy of mythical performers.”

Nile Rodgers, who also appears on the 'Get Lucky' single with Pharrell and Daft Punk, also recently described his contribution to the cut as "natural":

"About a year ago, I get a knock on the door – first a virtual one and then a real knock – from Guy-Manuel and Thomas. The collaboration felt so unbelievably natural that it made me realise that I need to be in the studio with people."

Fletcher Releases Debut Album 'Upon Ayr'

Fletcher

‘Upon Ayr’

Debut UK Album release May 27th 2013

First single ‘Don’t Breathe A Word’ released April 22nd

Dramatico

‘Upon Ayr’, the debut album by Fletcher, is a compelling, storytelling record that opens with an ode to the sadness of Jack Kerouac's legacy, closes with the creak of the foot driven mechanical pump of an 1840s western Harmonium and paints scenes of Polynesian whale myths, 1920s synchronised swimming mermaid's dream and the death throes of a love affair.

Written and produced by Fletcher, ‘Upon Ayr’ was recorded in Sydney (‘stolen’ studio time in a university), London (his bathroom and Urchin Studios) and Stockholm (Decibel Studios), with the record mastered in Berlin. Written over two years, while Fletcher was on tour playing bass, guitar and keyboards with friend and fellow Australian artist Sarah Blasko (who features on backing vocals), this is the multi-instrumentalist’s first album.

A founding member of Bluebottle Kiss and, later, The Devoted Few, Fletcher joined Blasko’s band in 2005 moving to London in 2010 to continue touring Europe and the US with her. This time on the road proved to be the perfect environment for Fletcher to write this collection of pictorial tales in what has been, as he explains, a natural and surprisingly simple process:

What you're listening to is demos; fleshed out demos. Throughout 2010 I was on a world tour with the beautiful, Australian singer Sarah Blasko. We played almost 200 shows that year and most of the songs on this record were written during that period. They developed in sound checks, in band rooms, in hotels, on trains, in vans, or humming into iPhones. In early 2011, while still on tour in Australia, I got together with two of my mates to sneak into a university studio where a friend of ours had been studying musicology. Our friend's course had finished months ago but he still had the keycard and security code that opened the doors to the studio. We snuck in around 11pm and would record all night till 4am or 5am, turning off the lights and hiding every 2 hours while the security guard cruised by. We did this for three nights and I recorded the guitar and vocals for around 14 songs.

2011 saw more touring and a little more writing. I recorded more songs in London, this time in my bathroom, two of which (Here Stands The Broken & Swim Through The Mouth Of The Whale) ended up on this album. I thought these and my Uni studio sessions would just be demos, but they sounded pretty good and everyone I played them to said, you should use them as your album. So I did.

Not to say I recorded this whole album in the shower. These songs needed a little more rhythm and pulse, so when I finally got off tour in early 2012 I went into Decibel Studios in a snowy Stockholm to record some extra bits, including bass, drums and the amazing voice of one of my best friends: Sarah Blasko.

I brought my album back to London to mix at Urchin Studios in May 2012, and there you have it. Simple and easy, like I've always wanted but never fully achieved in my past recordings. Most of what you hear is first take, all the vocals were done either in a bathroom on a borrowed mic that would sometimes electrocute my lips, or in a little wooden room I had to hunch to fit into. I've always felt like I've been guilty of over thinking my recordings but this all happened without me even realising it.

So you're hearing the first album from me as Fletcher. Upon Ayr is the album title - a nod to one of first recorded uses of the name Fletcher, in a south-western town of Scotland, Ayr.

Enjoy,

Fletcher

The Essential Mariah Carey Celebrates Her First Decade on Columbia, 1990-1999

Mariah Carey's first decade of record-setting hit singles, remixes and fan-favorite album tracks are collected on THE ESSENTIAL MARIAH CAREY. The 28 tracks on this double CD laid the foundation for five-time Grammy Award®-winner Mariah's reign as the top-selling female recording artist in history with over 200 million albums, singles and videos sold worldwide.

THE ESSENTIAL MARIAH CAREY , which is an update of 2001's Greatest Hits with four different tracks, will be available everywhere starting May 8th through Columbia Records, a division of SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT.

"I wanted to create a collection of some of my favorite songs," explains Mariah. "Several of them are very big hits and some are more obscure favorites of mine as well as fan faves."

At the core of this set is the extraordinary run of early RIAA gold, platinum and multi-platinum Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit singles that kept her phenomenal vocal artistry at the forefront of pop music consciousness for that first decade. Fourteen of those chart-toppers are included here:

1990: "Vision Of Love," "Love Takes Time"

1991: "I Don't Wanna Cry," "Emotions" (included here in its 12-Inch Club Mix)

1992: "I'll Be There" (featuring Trey Lorenz)

1993: "Dreamlover," "Hero"

1995: "Fantasy," "One Sweet Day" (Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men)

1996: "Always Be My Baby"

1997: "Honey"

1998: "My All"

1999: "Heartbreaker" (featuring Jay-Z); "Thank God I Found You" (featuring Joe & 98 Degrees)

Mariah Carey completists will appreciate that this ESSENTIAL contains four tracks newly chosen by Mariah herself for the occasion:

"Vanishing," Mariah's debut as a producer, from her self-titled debut album of 1990

"Close My Eyes," a confessional track from the Butterfly album, evoking her new freedom as a single woman in 1997;

"The Roof (Mobb Deep Extended Version)," also from Butterfly, Mariah's first track with the songwriting-production duo Poke & Tone, aka the Trackmasters (Jean Claude Oliver and Samuel Barnes);

"Bliss," from her next album, 1998's Rainbow, one of six tracks on that album that were co-written and co-produced by Mariah with the Flyte Tyme Productions team of Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, and Big Jim Wright.

In addition, Mariah has included two rare alternate remixes on this ESSENTIAL collection, both on disc one. "Emotions (12-inch Club Mix)," from 1991, the title track of Mariah's second studio album, is a remix of her record-setting fifth consecutive #1 hit single. "Anytime You Need A Friend (C + C Club Remix)," from her third studio album, 1993's Music Box, was remixed by her friends Robert Clivilles and David Cole of fellow Columbia Records group C + C Music Factory, who played such a crucial role as writers and producers on Mariah's early studio albums.

Mariah Carey's Cinderella storybook signing to Columbia Records in 1990 is entwined with the magic of that decade. At the very outset, she accomplished what no other pop artist had done in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, sending her first five consecutive singles to the #1 spot. Indeed, eight of her first ten singles hit the #1 spot between 1990 and 1993, and the decade would see Mariah place 15 hits at the top of the Hot 100 through 1999.

In 2005, Mariah earned her 17th #1 career single ("Don't Forget About Us"), tying one of the most enduring chart records in Hot 100 history, Elvis Presley's 17 #1's. Three years later, Mariah surpassed Elvis with her 18th #1 Hot 100 hit ("Touch My Body"). Mariah is currently positioned as the only active recording artist in the 54 years of the Hot 100 (which began in 1958) with the potential to surpass the Beatles' all-time high of 20 #1 hits.

THE ESSENTIAL MARIAH CAREY

Featuring interviews with key anti-apartheid activists of the time and such musical legends as Quincy Jones, Harry Belafonte, Paul McCartney, David Byrne and Peter Gabriel, "Under African Skies" travels with Paul Simon back to South Africa, 25 years after his first visit, and recounts the making of the record, surveying from the vantage of history the turbulence and controversy surrounding the album's genesis. His artistic decision to collaborate with African musicians created a new world musical fusion, combining American and African musical idioms while igniting an intense political crossfire, with Paul Simon accused of breaking the UN cultural boycott of South Africa designed to end the Apartheid regime.

About Graceland
The universal appeal of the music of Graceland proved more powerful and enduring than the political hotbed attending its creation. In 1986, the album sold 14 million copies worldwide, received universal praise from critics around the globe. Simon and the members of Ladysmith Black Mambazo performed on "Saturday Night Live" in what turned out to be a landmark moment in SNL history.

Graceland won "Album of the Year" at the Grammy Awards in 1987. Then, in an unprecedented carryover, the album garnered the Grammy for "Song of the Year" with its title track in 1988. The album generated three hit singles--including "You Can Call Me Al" and its iconic video with Chevy Chase--and kept Paul Simon and the Graceland tour on the road for five years. It continues to be a major force and a source of inspiration and joy for musicians and fans alike.

1956: The Year Elvis Presley Skyrocketed to Global Fame!

The explosion of Elvis Presley's career on RCA Records during the 12 months of 1956 was a wondrous evolution. By the end of that fateful year, the rockabilly singer from Memphis whose audience was rooted in the deep Southern states, would be the most famous person in the world. How did it happen? In one word: music. "…My pelvis had nothin' to do with what I do," Elvis said in 1956. "I just get kinda in rhythm with the music, I jump around to it because I enjoy what I'm doin', I'm not tryin' to be vulgar, I'm not tryin' to sell any sex, I'm not tryin' to look vulgar and nasty. I just enjoy what I'm doin' and tryin' to make the best of it ..." The rest, of course, is history. Ten million singles sold, three million EPs, and 800,000 LPs' worth, in just that first year. 1956.

YOUNG MAN WITH THE BIG BEAT puts the focus on Elvis in 1956. The package includes his RCA studio master recordings and outtakes in New York, Nashville and Memphis; live performances; interviews; and much more. Taking its name from an RCA poster campaign for his debut album, the super deluxe 5-CD, 12-inch square box set (with an amazing 80-page book with timeline) is available now for pre-order at www.elvis1956.com. Pre-order customers will also receive an exclusive replica vinyl 7" of Elvis' first 45rpm EP for RCA Records. Sharing the same striking cover art as Elvis' debut album, the EP ("extended play") features "Blue Suede Shoes," "Tutti Frutti," "I Got A Woman" and "Just Because." This vinyl single is only available through this special website offer, and it will ship upon payment for the box set.

The actual box set will be available everywhere September 27, 2011, on RCA/Legacy, a division of SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT.

The five CDs comprise the following, all material originating in 1956:

CD One, Studio Recordings: 17 tracks recorded in New York, Nashville, and Hollywood, starting with the 12 songs on the debut LP, Elvis Presley ('1254'), followed by non-LP single A-sides and B-sides, and EP tracks;

CD Two, Studio Recordings: 22 tracks recorded in New York, Nashville, and Memphis, starting with the 12 songs on the second LP, Elvis ('1382'), followed by non-LP single A-sides and B-sides, and EP tracks;

CD Three, Live Recordings: Rare remasters of shows at the Frontier Hotel in Las Vegas (four songs); Little Rock, Arkansas (seven songs); and a recently discovered, previously unreleased concert in Shreveport, Louisiana, in December (ten songs);

CD Four, The Outtakes: Four outtakes from the first historic RCA session in January ("I Got A Woman," "Heartbreak Hotel," "I'm Counting On You," "I Was The One"), segueing into the complete session of February 3rd (11 takes of "Lawdy, Miss Clawdy" and 12 takes of "Shake, Rattle And Roll"); plus the first of the interviews -- the complete Warwick Hotel (NYC) interview by Robert Brown in March;

CD Five, the Interviews: The Paul Wilder interview, plus his interviews with Colonel Parker and Oscar Davis; plus two segments of Elvis' rarely heard candid monologue, "The Truth About Me," and two advertisements for RCA Victrolas.

Over the course of CDs One and Two, YOUNG MAN WITH THE BIG BEAT compiles Elvis Presley's complete 1956 masters. The year was fueled by a run of hits that kept radio well-stocked: "Heartbreak Hotel," "I Was The One," "Blue Suede Shoes," "Money Honey," "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You," "My Baby Left Me," "Don't Be Cruel," "Hound Dog," and "Love Me Tender" topping the list.

In addition to the master takes, outtakes, and live performances heard on CDs One through Four of YOUNG MAN WITH THE BIG BEAT, there is also the most extensive collection of audio spoken word material ever included on an RCA release. These extended and rare interviews are previously unreleased by RCA Records. The first of these segments, at the end of CD Four, is the complete Elvis interview by Robert Brown that took place at the Warwick Hotel in New York City on March 24th. CD Five then presents:

The Complete TV Guide Presents Elvis interview (Elvis interviewed by Paul Wilder backstage at the Polk Theater,Lakeland, Florida, on August 10th);

Colonel Parker and Oscar Davis (interviewed by Paul Wilder backstage at the Polk Theater, Lakeland, Florida, on August 10th);

The Truth About Me (Original spoken word 45 rpm disc included in Teen Parade magazine. Recorded on the set of Love Me Tender, August 22nd);

The Truth About Me Interview (Recorded on the set of Love Me Tender, August 22nd);

RCA Victrola radio ad 1;

RCA Victrola radio ad 2 (both ads never before released commercially).

In tandem with the release of YOUNG MAN WITH THE BIG BEAT, RCA/ Legacy will also release (on the same date) ELVIS PRESLEY: LEGACY EDITION. This special double-CD package will couple, for the first time, the Elvis Presley and Elvis albums of 1956. They will be heard as they are on CD One and CD Two of the YOUNG MAN box set (with the same bonus tracks).

ELVIS PRESLEY: LEGACY EDITION (RCA/Legacy 88697 90795 2) has as its cover image the classic Elvis Presley debut LP design that has been paid homage by the Clash (London Calling), Big Audio Dynamite (F-Punk), k.d. lang (Reintarnation), and many others. The Legacy Edition booklet will contain new liner notes and rare archival photography.

YOUNG MAN WITH THE BIG BEAT will feature one of the most extraordinary books every created at Legacy. The focal point of the book, spread across its 80 pages, will be a unique, meticulously-researched, day-by-day chronology of Elvis' iconic year, including every concert, every recording date, every television appearance, personal events in Elvis' life, and much more. A dazzling photo array of memorabilia will illustrate each day and entry. Concert ticket stubs, RCA memoranda, letters from fans, postcards from Elvis to his family, tour itineraries, magazine covers and articles, trade charts, fan club relics, RCA publicity photos, concert photos, candid photos, and more will be a feast for the eyes and the imagination as 1956 unfolds. The book was assembled by Elvis expert Roger Semon.

YOUNG MAN WITH THE BIG BEAT will also include five rare 8x10 photographs (suitable for framing), five original-size poster replicas, and a replica concert ticket stub.

YOUNG MAN WITH THE BIG BEAT was produced for reissue by Ernst Mikael Jorgensen, the respected director of RCA's Elvis catalog for over two decades. Jorgensen is also the author of the essential research guide, Elvis Presley: A Life In Music (St. Martin's Press, 1998). He recently completed The Complete Elvis Presley Masters, the 27-CD crown jewel in RCA/Legacy's Elvis 75 campaign of 2010-2011. That set contains all 711 master recordings released during Elvis' lifetime, housed in a 12-inch square presentation case which includes a coffee table-style book.

After nearly a year and a half of studio recording and singles releases on Sun Records of Memphis, Elvis Presley's recording contract was sold to RCA Records on November 21, 1955. Elvis arrived at RCA Studios in Nashville on January 10, 1956, with his band, guitarist Scotty Moore, bassist Bill Black, and D.J. Fontana on drums. It was the beginning of an odyssey that would not only transform the lives of Elvis and his buddies, but would also reshape the face of popular music, entertainment television, radio, concert promotion, movie production and more in America and around the world.

Buddy Holly: "Without Elvis none of us could have made it."

Scotty Moore: "He had so much energy we had to sit up nights to wear him out so that we could go to sleep."

John Lennon: "My crushing ambition in life was to be like Elvis Presley."

Bruce Springsteen: "My mother was watching the Ed Sullivan Show and Elvis came on. I went out and bought a guitar straight away..."

James Brown: "Elvis taught white America to get down."

From the master takes recorded at those January 10th sessions, "Heartbreak Hotel" (inducted into the Grammy® Hall Of Fame) and "I Was the One," to the Million Dollar Quartet jam session back home in Memphis on December 4th, it was a year in music that will never be equaled.

Both the box set and the Legacy Edition are currently available for pre-order at Amazon.com. Order YOUNG MAN WITH A BIG BEAT at http://amzn.to/jYSrkn; order ELVIS PRESLEY: LEGACY EDITION at http://amzn.to/izCRci.

REO Speedwagon's 30-Year Anniversary of Multi-Platinum #1 Breakthrough Hit Hi Infidelity Brings Re-Release With Double-CD Package Due Out July 19, 2011

NEW YORK, May 24, 2011 -- The year 1981 marks the debut of the groundbreaking MTV Networks and, simultaneously, as MTV was hitting the airwaves, REO Speedwagon held the #1 album spot with their multi-platinum Hi Infidelity, making an impression that has also come to last decades. Now, marking its 30th Anniversary, the highest-selling rock LP of 1981 is being commemorated with HI INFIDELITY: 30th ANNIVERSARY EDITION, with special, never-before-released demos and more. The double-CD set will be released at all physical and digital retail outlets on July 19th through Epic/Legacy, a division of SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT.

Hi Infidelity was a career-changing album for REO Speedwagon, achieving a staggering number of accolades, chart positions and sales, among them:

Highest-selling rock LP of 1981

Has sold close to 10 million copies in the US

February 21, 1981; the album hit #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart and remained at #1 for 15 weeks straight; taking over John Lennon & Yoko Ono's "Double Fantasy," which previously held the spot for eight weeks

Remained on Billboard 200 album chart for 101 weeks, unprecedented for an American rock band at the time

Album certified RIAA Gold and Platinum on February 2, 1981; since been 10x Platinum certified

Single "Keep on Loving You," certified RIAA gold on March 4th, replaced Eddie Rabbitt's "I Love a Rainy Night" at #1 on Billboard Hot 100 on March 21, 1981

March 21st, 1981, the first week of Billboard's then new "Top Tracks" chart (now known as the Mainstream Rock Chart) boasted four songs from Hi Infidelity: "Keep on Loving You" and "Take It On the Run," which both hit the top 10; and "Don't Let Him Go"(#11) and "Tough Guys" (#25); "Out of Season," joined those four a week later

"Take It On the Run" was the 9th music video ever to be played on MTV

HI INFIDELITY: 30th ANNIVERSARY EDITION will pair the original album with a second CD of previously unreleased 'Crystal Demos' of nine of the album's 10 songs. Additionally, the album packaging will include new liner notes by lead singer Kevin Cronin, as well as original lead guitarist Gary Richrath. Cronin's essay takes the reader on a trip behind the curtain to the roots of many of the songs: "I remember writing the verses to piano, after sleepwalking into my home studio around 4:00 a.m.... A long simmering response to the bullies of my youth came in the form of 'Tough Guys'... Bruce wrote and sang 'Someone Tonight,' which is one of the gems from the Crystal Demos... 'I wish You Were There' [was] a little gospel thing that I had written in the house where I grew up in suburban Chicago."

Originally formed in Champaign, Illinois, REO Speedwagon is still led today by keyboardist Neal Doughty (founding member since 1967), Kevin Cronin (who has fronted the band since 1972 on lead vocals and guitar), and bassist Bruce Hall (who joined in 1977) – along with lead guitarist Dave Amato (member since 1989) and drummer Bryan Hitt (since 1990). Together, REO continues to define the essence of two enduring genres, arena rock on the performance side, and classic rock on the audio and video side. Summer tour dates begin at Los Angeles' Greek Theatre on June 4th and take the band through more than 40 shows where they'll showcase the best of Hi Infidelity with the live performances that audiences have grown to love over the last three decades and continue to sell out time and time again.

As Cronin writes, "Hi Infidelity was a major life changer for all of us. On our eleventh album, we went from being the perennial Midwestern underdog, to at last hitting the global big time. Suddenly, the world was listening, and watching... But the truth is, it all still boiled down to the music, the songs, some inspired performances, and a great deal of good fortune. We were a tight knit, dedicated group of individuals, with a dream, a purpose, and no doubt that we would pull it all off."

HI INFIDELITY: 30th ANNIVERSARY EDITION by REO SPEEDWAGON (Epic/Legacy 88697 69579 2, originally issuedNovember 1980, as Epic 36844)

Disc One – Selections: 1. Don't Let Him Go 2. Keep On Loving You 3. Follow My Heart 4. In Your Letter 5. Take It On The Run 6. Tough Guys 7. Out Of Season 8. Shakin' It Loose 9. Someone Tonight 10. I Wish You Were There.

Disc Two: The Crystal Demos – Selections: 1. Someone Tonight 2. Tough Guys 3. In Your Letter 4. Follow My Heart 5. Take It On The Run 6. Don't Let Him Go 7. Keep On Loving You 8. Shakin' It Loose (Instrumental) 9. I Wish You Were There. (All tracks previously unreleased.)

"The heavens, our emotions, the music business, and REO fans all over the world, were all perfectly aligned. There was a common sense of purpose, of longing and loss, within the band members' collective psyche, that erupted with a burst of creativity, and resulted in the music of Hi Infidelity."

– from the liner notes written by Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon

"Kevin and I go way back, having met right about the time I joined Styx. There was probably no one more keenly aware of their chart positions than we were for all those weeks back in 1981. Most exciting days indeed!" – Tommy Shaw of Styx

Simon & Garfunkel's 1970 Masterpiece Celebrated with Deluxe DVD+CD Package: BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER: 40th ANNIVERSARY EDITION

CD: Original 11-song album

NEW YORK, Jan. 25, 2011 -- Simon & Garfunkel's crowning masterpiece will be celebrated in March with BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER: 40th ANNIVERSARY EDITION. This deluxe DVD+CD set includes the original 11-song album plus the duo's never-before-commercially-available "Songs Of America" CBS television special from 1969 on DVD. The DVD will also include The Harmony Game: The Making of Bridge Over Troubled Water, a newly-created documentary on Bridge Over Troubled Water featuring new interviews with Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. The package will be available at all physical and digital retail outlets starting March 8, 2011, through Columbia/Legacy, a division of SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT.

BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER: 40th ANNIVERSARY EDITION's full-color, 24-page booklet will include rare photography, memorabilia, and separate liner note essays that will provide overviews of the album production (written by former A&R executive and current TV music supervisor Michael Hill) and the "Songs Of America" TV special (written by Rolling Stone Contributing Editor Anthony DeCurtis).

"Songs Of America" (running time approximately 70 minutes) is a beautiful documentary that had its first and only broadcast November 30, 1969, on the CBS television network. The special features footage of Simon & Garfunkel on stage, in the recording studio, and traveling on tour. Interviews and performances are intertwined with news footage from the period, some of it deemed too controversial by original sponsor Bell Atlantic (a subsidiary of AT&T), who in the end refused to air it. Included is footage from the period of Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy, activist Cesar Chavez, and the Poor People's March on Washington. The film is a fascinating depiction of two artists struggling to define their role within a society that is splintering apart.

Alongside "Songs Of America" on the DVD will be the newly-created documentary, The Harmony Game: The Making of Bridge Over Troubled Water. This insightful feature tells the story behind Simon and Garfunkel's last studio album, Bridge Over Troubled Water. The album has its legacy shrouded in rock 'n' roll mythology with legendary tales of inspiration, innovation and separation. Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel share the journey in their own words and reflect back on its impact 40 years later. Also featured in the documentary are several of the duo's collaborators from the period: Roy Halee (co-producer/engineer), Hal Blaine (drums), Joe Osborn (bass guitar), Jimmie Haskell (arranger), Mort Lewis (manager), and Charles Grodin (director of the "Songs Of America" documentary). The feature includes never-before-seen footage, photos and memorabilia.

Simon & Garfunkel reportedly spent more than 800 hours over a two-year span recording what would be their final studio album together. The title single "Bridge Over Troubled Water" won an unprecedented five Grammy Awards: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Contemporary Song, Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s), and Best Engineered Recording; with Bridge Over Troubled Water winning the top award as Album Of the Year. (In 1998, "Bridge Over Troubled Water" was voted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame, one of many awards that the song and album have won around the world over the past four decades.)

But the album also marked the end of the road (at least for a couple of years) for the duo, who had been recording together since their 'Tom & Jerry' period in high school (circa 1957). Simon & Garfunkel went out in style, however, as the sessions for Bridge Over Troubled Water spun off four hit singles that spanned 1969 and '70:

"The Boxer" b/w "Baby Driver" (released April 1969, Billboard Hot 100 #7, 10 weeks on the chart);

"Bridge Over Troubled Water" b/w "Keep the Customer Satisfied" (released January 1970, Billboard Hot 100 #1 (6 weeks at #1), 14 weeks on the chart, certified RIAA gold);

"Cecilia" b/w "The Only Living Boy In New York" (released April 1970, Billboard Hot 100 #4, 13 weeks on the chart, certified RIAA gold); and

"El Condor Pasa (If I Could)" b/w "Why Don't You Write Me" (released September 1970, Billboard Hot 100 #18, 11 weeks on the chart).

The Bridge Over Troubled Water album, released January 26, 1970, reached #1 in the March 7th issue of Billboard, where it spent 10 weeks at #1, on its way to an 85-week stay on the chart, and 8-times platinum RIAA certification. Starting March 7th, the album and title track spent five weeks simultaneously at #1, a rare achievement for any artist before or since.

In the UK, the album and title track both debuted on the same date, February 21st, and both subsequently went to #1. The album went on to spend 41 weeks at #1, ranking it inside the Top 5 all-time Most Weeks At #1; and 307 total weeks on the UK national chart, ranking it inside the Top 10 all-time Most Weeks On the Chart. At the BRIT Awards in 1977, Bridge Over Troubled Water was named the Best International Album Of the Past 25 Years.

BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER: 40th ANNIVERSARY EDITION by SIMON & GARFUNKEL (88697 82828 2, originally released January 1970, as Columbia 9914)

"It is one of the best soundtracks of all time and this edition will appeal to the new fan and serious collector alike."

Rodgers & Hammerstein's score for THE SOUND OF MUSIC is one of the most cherished collections of songs of all time. Based on their Broadway musical, with a libretto by Howard Lindsay & Russel Crouse, the film version was directed by Robert Wise and brought the universal (and true) story of the von Trapp family to life on the screen. The resulting film earned 5 Academy Awards, including Best Picture; was the top-grossing domestic film of its time; and, when readjusted for inflation, still holds the #1 spot for top-grossing domestic movie musical of all time.

The soundtrack is a classic in its own right, having spent its first four years on Billboard's Top Albums chart, and sold over 10 million units to date. With the radiant Julie Andrews leading the way, the vocal and orchestral performances include iconic versions of such standards as the title song, "Sixteen Going on Seventeen," "Do-Re-Mi," "Edelweiss," "So Long, Farewell," "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," and of course, "My Favorite Things."

The 45th ANNIVERSARY EDITION's full-color CD booklet will include rare photography (some of it recently rediscovered at the Fox photo archives) and an extensive and newly-updated 1,500-word liner notes essay ("I'll Sing Once More: THE SOUND OF MUSIC Lives On") written by Bert Fink, Senior Vice President of Communications for Rodgers & Hammerstein: An Imagem Company.
