Take That star Mark Owen confirms new solo album

Singer-songwriter Mark Owen has revealed that he will be releasing a brand new solo album entitled, 'The Art Of Doing Nothing'.

The record, which will act as Owen's follow up to his 2005 offering 'How The Mighty Fall', is due to drop in June and the star launched several social networking pages earlier today (April 29) that all display the same tagline:

"Every idea has a starting place. Nothing begins in an empty place."

A photograph has also been uploaded to his Facebook, Twitter and official website that shows Owen looking at a white wall-canvas with the word 'nothing' written in the style of an elongated series of 'o' letters between the beginning and end of the word.

Owen is yet to share any other information on the project, but his first tweet reads: "Welcome to #theartofdoingnothing http://www.markowenofficial.com."

Adam Lambert now "totally comfortable" being a gay role model

Former 'American Idol' superstar Adam Lambert has revealed that after years of being in the spotlight as an openly gay male he's finally comfortable with the 'role model' status.

During an interview with South Florida Gay News, the 'Trespassing' singer explained that it took him a while to come to terms with the pressure he felt to be a spokesperson for the LGBT community:

"I’m totally comfortable with it now. You know it’s weird, I was just being honest. It’s a bit daunting. You’re a role model or icon or you’re supposed to try to be one so I was intimated by it at first. I didn’t realize that was going to come with everything. I was just trying to sing."

Lambert added that he learned how to cope with the expectations by identifying the fact that he 'didn't really have a lot of gay role models' in his youth and trying to step into the shoes of the kind of person he would have looked up:

"One of the thing that drives me the most is when I was younger I didn’t really have a lot of gay role models who were proud and gay and open and were who they were. I’ve gotten letters and met younger people in the LGBT community who have said “Wow I really appreciate the fact that you don’t make any apologies and you’re just this wacky guy.” And that alone gives me a lot of confidence."

"If I can help a young person feel more comfortable in their own skin or be the person they want to be it’s f**king awesome."

New Jay-Z lyrics merit official White House reaction

Lyrics contained in Jay-Z's new track 'Open Letter' seem to suggest that he and superstar wife Beyonce received personal clearance from President Barack Obama for their recent controversial holiday in Cuba.

The infamous couple's anniversary trip turned in to headline news this week, due to a longstanding embargo against US citizens visiting Cuba as tourists.

Jay-Z, reacting quickly to the media backlash against his time in Havana, Cuba's capital, released 'Open Letter' via his own website yesterday - using the song as a defiant statement that seemed to implicate President Obama in proceedings.

Jay-Z raps the line "Boy from the hood but got White House clearance" before going on to relate how "Obama said, chill, you gonna get me impeached. We don’t need this [expletive] anyway, chill with me on the beach."

Throughout the track he is also critical of the U.S.A's 50 year long tourist embargo against Cuba, stating:

"I’m in Cuba, I love Cubans. This communist talk is so confusing, when it’s from China this very mike that I’m using."

However when questioned over the claims of 'Open Letter', White House Spokesman Jay Carney reassured journalists that the US Treasury had granted the celebrity couple a license to travel, and cleared President Obama of any involvement.

"I guess nothing rhymes with Treasury," Mr Carney said. "The White House has nothing to do with it," he added.

Taylor Swift fan mail found in Nashville dumpster

A box containing hundreds of envelopes addressed to country-pop superstar Taylor Swift was found in a recycling dumpster in Nashville, Tennessee over the weekend.

A woman named Kylee Francescan discovered the collection of letters, which turned out to all be hand-written fan mail from devoted admirers, in a bin at an elementary school in the area and reported the box to Swift's label, Big Machine.

The 'I Knew You Were Trouble' singer's label then issued a statement about the incident, in which a spokesperson explained that Swift loves receiving mail from people who look up to her and they're unsure how the letters ended up in the trash:

"Taylor gets thousands of fan letters every day and they are delivered to her management office. After the letters are opened and read, they are recycled. The only explanation for the letters being unopened would be that a small batch of mail that was supposed to be delivered to Taylor was accidentally put with letters headed for the recycling center."

Matt Cardle keen to get started on second album

Matt Cardle has revealed that he’s eager to get back into the studio to record the follow-up to his debut album, 'Letters.'

The 2010 X-Factor winner, who previously stated that he would like to pursue a more raw sound in the future, told The Daily Star that he’s already penned several songs for the record:

“I’m writing all the time. I’d like it out ASAP but like Letters, it has to be right and I’m not going to be rushed.”

The 28-year-old, whose last two singles both failed to make the UK Top 40, also claimed that he’s happy to be more of an albums artist:

“There are well-known artists out there who have had two or three Top 10 singles and barely sold any albums.

“Perception-wise, people are like: ‘Oh they’ve had three hits, they must be creaming it,’ but it’s absolutely the opposite. You can't live off singles but what you can do is keep an album bobbing away.”

'Letters' has spent nearly six months in the album chart, but was kept off the top spot by Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ self-titled first effort in its first week of release, something which Cardle doesn’t seem too disappointed by, admitting: “That was cool in my eyes.”

Matt Cardle has confessed that his dream collaboration would be with Chris Martin.

The X-Factor winner, who famously duetted with Rihanna in the 2010 final, declared his admiration for the Coldplay frontman when asked who he would most like to work with during an interview with MUZU.TV.

He said: "I think he's an absolute genius and I would love to work with him. I know that he's a busy boy and in one of the biggest bands in the world, but if he has five minutes, half an hour or half a day sometime."

The 28-year-old former painter and decorator also championed his fellow talent show finalists One Direction ahead of tomorrow night’s Brit Awards:

"I think One Direction will get the 'Best Single' [award] because of their fans. I think they have an incredible following and they're so strong and loyal that anything they put their mind to, they can make it happen for the guys.”

The ‘When We Collide’ star later went onto praise their debut single: "I want to take my hat off to Savan Kotecha for writing 'What Makes You Beautiful', because that is like pop perfection. The first time you hear it you're like, 'Well that's a number one!' I love it and I think they're brilliant."

Cardle released ‘Amazing,’ the third single from his debut album, ‘Letters,’ on a new four-track E.P. last week.

Matt Cardle has sparked controversy with his recent comments about the horrific events that devastated New York City, and the entire world, on 9/11.

The 'Run For You Life' singer told The Big Issue magazine that the facts surrounding the attacks don't add up at all and that "something's not quite right there". He explained:

"There's a lot of conspiracy. I've gotta be careful what I say. The whole 9/11 thing, something's not quite right there. I think the way it was portrayed on TV and who was responsible and the way it happened was not the way it happened."

"It's just not what they say it is. Other conspiracies might be true and the one I believe might also be bulls**t. But all I do know is what they're saying is bulls**t. From the things I've seen, I don't care what anyone says. To not question it is silly."

Matt Cardle is ready to shake off his association with The X Factor now that his debut album has just been released.

The 'Run For Your Life' singer has just begun his career as an independent musician since winning the show back in 2010 and entered the UK singles chart at No.6 on Sunday, October 16.

His first record, 'Letters', was unveiled yesterday, October 17, and he explained to BBC's Newsbeat that he now wants to carve a name for himself as a singer-songwriter and not as a previous winner of the popular talent contest:

"That was my X Factor trip over. Now I have to get on with being Matt on my own with my band and writing and performing. This is where I stand on my own two feet and see if I can really cut it."

"I just want to do the best I can. I know that's a cop out to say, but I've always been dreaming big and wanting to achieve the best I can. I'm not stopping. I want the album to do really well and I want everyone to come to the tour next year."

Speaking about his intentions for the future, Cardle added "I want to make another album next year and that to do really well."

Matt Cardle has admitted that he will go "back to the drawing board" after his single 'Run For Your Life' only managed to climb as high as No.6 in the UK singles chart.

The record entered just one position outside of the Top 5 and despite its heavy promotion failed to make a significant impact, although it did very well to fall within this week's top 10.

Cardle faced incredibly tough competition from Maroon 5's 'Moves Like Jagger', Gym Class Heroes' 'Stereo Hearts' and Rihanna ft. Calvin Harris' 'We Found Love'.

Matt Cardle admits that if he didn't win X Factor, he would no longer play music

Matt Cardle spoke with Nick Duerden of the Independent on Sunday and explained that if he didn't win last year's X Factor, he would have been finished with the music industry.

The singer, who has recently released the Gary Barlow-penned song, 'Run For Your Life', said:

"Oh, I felt like I was risking everything. I had been making music for about 14 years by that point, and hadn't got anywhere. I had nothing else in my life, just this. And I knew that if X Factor didn't work for me, I was f**ked".

He continues to say that he had to win the show:

"I knew that if I ended up going out at an early stage, or even if I finished third or fourth, that would be it for me. It would be seen as a kind of death in the industry. Basically, I needed to win".

Cardle's music background was in metal and grunge and when he was at the Kerrang Awards earlier this year, as an X Factor winner, he felt out of place:

"I was at the Kerrang Awards recently and I was in my element: Slipknot on this table, Korn on that table; bands I love, singers I hero-worship. But all anybody could say to me was, 'What the hell are you doing here? You're that X Factor dude.' I suppose that's not about to change, is it?"

The 27-year-old hopes that with his debut album, 'Letters', which is due to be released on October 17, he can prove himself as an artist:

"I walked all by myself. I've made my bed. All I can hope for now is that the album proves to people there is a little more to me than some think, and that I might just be worthy of respect after all".

The 'When We Collide' singer says that he is grateful to Simon Cowell and the opportunities he gave him:

"Simon is a really lovely guy, really clever, and really busy. But he has let me go away and write an album the way I wanted it to be, and, I'm sorry, but I can only thank him eternally for that."

Matt Cardle has admitted that taking part in 2010's season of The X Factor "battered" his integrity.

Speaking exclusively to Music Week, the 'Run For Your Life' singer explained that he risked a lot to appear as a contestant on the competition and feels as though he almost sacrificed his credibility:

"It was so important I was honest with Chris [Briggs, Sony A&R] about keeping my integrity intact, even though I battered the hell out of it on The X Factor."

"But I think a little bit of it remained somehow and I wanted to keep hold of that and build on that and write an album I would have written anyway. I'm really proud of it. I just pray to God it bridges the gap between X Factor contestant and true singer/songwriter."

Cardle also announced last night, September 27, that he will perform as a musical guest on the new series of The X Factor on October 9. Watch his new video for 'Run For Your Life' below:

Matt Cardle has told The Sun that he took a handgun into his school when he was just 11:

"I was at a posh private school in Essex, then my dad got made redundant and we went to the local school down the road.

I went round to a mate's house and he said he had a gun. He was worried his dad had rumbled him and was searching for it. I gave him my dad's fishing knife and a tenner in a swap deal.

"I was expecting some sort of spud gun and he brought out this shiny, nickel Beretta. It was decommissioned but still had the magazine and everything.

I took it into school to show another mate. I'd only been there for a week. We were in history, pulling it back and holding it, letting it unload with a 'cling' sound.

"There was a bit of metal welded into the barrel. So I had friends in the fifth year go into the CDT lab to fix it.

"We were hoping to free the barrel so we could shoot real bullets. I don't know what we were thinking. Where the hell was some posh kid from Essex going to get a bullet from?

"It didn't work and the older lads took it from me and were running round pretending to shoot it.

"The head boy told the headmaster and I was in deep trouble. I remember running behind the back of the science lab. I was sat there with the gun in my bag.

"Before I knew it, the headmaster was round the corner shouting, 'Matt Cardle!'

"I think he was expecting a cap gun. When I showed him, I'll never forget his face.

"The next thing my mum and I were in the car park with a gun-shaped brown paper bag. I was begging her not to shop me. She took me straight to the police station. I got there in this school blazer that was far too big for me.

"My mum said, 'My son's got a gun.' So she put this gun up on the desk, the copper took it away, came back and confirmed it was a real, decommissioned gun. I'd been watching loads of The Bill and there I was, sat with my mum, being asked where I got it. I said, 'No comment', thinking I'm cool. I said it about four times and then my mum started crying.

"I crumbled and told them who gave it to me. He got a telling off, I got a telling off and a couple of weeks' suspension from school. It could have been worse."

Cardle's new album, 'Letters', is scheduled for release on October 17. As previously reported by Pressparty, the first single to be taken from it has been penned by X Factor judge, Gary Barlow. It's called 'Run For Your Life' and is out on October 9.
