Venus In Motion returns with first album in six years

Venus In Motion is the alter ego of Angel Johnson, one of the pioneering women in electronic music. As one of the first and only female DJs on the circuit at the start of the 90’s, she was a regular at infamous house haunts such as Venus Nottingham, The Haçienda and Ministry of Sound. As songwriter/producer, Venus In Motion, Angel returns with the superbly, self-produced album number two, Somebody’s Heaven, featuring a collection of down-tempo, vocal driven, summer grooves, fit for the discerning listener’s blissed out moments.

Angel Johnson’s metamorphosis into Venus In Motion was a long one. As house music grew to be a cultural reference point in the 90’s, she blazed a trail for women in the male-dominated world of club DJs. She had to work harder, mix better and generally take the roof off, to gain equal opportunities. However this determination and work ethic served her well and by the early 90’s she was an in demand, internationally recognised DJ.

Although a producer of many dance floor hits in 1994 on Hi Life Records as Angelheart producing with Dean Marriot (D’Ramirez), Angel has always written mellower songs. Since childhood she was intrigued by the emotive power and melody of music, citing early musical influences including Kate Bush, Cat Stevens and Gladys Knight.

In the early 90s when the genre ‘chill out’ was born, bands of the decade like Massive Attack and Nightmares On Wax further inspired Angel to record the songs that had gathered in her head. By 2005 she had invested in her own studio and had written and produced her first album as Venus In Motion, Walking In Limbo. After relocating to Barcelona, the album was snapped up by Spain’s leading electronic music imprint Blanco Y Negro Records and Venus In Motion began to appear in down-tempo playlists everywhere.

Somebody's Heaven sharpens the Venus In Motion sound, mixing organic with electronic, weaving melody and melancholy in every tale told. Like many of today’s successful female writers, lyrically, this album speaks from the heart about the personal turmoil of suffocating relationships (Let Me Breathe) and personal change (On The Down), to wavering friendships using tongue-in-cheek metaphors (Friends) and coming across the deluded know-it-all types (Wonderful).

The album features a stunning array of guest talent. Angel comments, “Although Venus In Motion is a solo project, like many writers/producers in the genre I use different singers and musicians to bring my work to life. I don’t have the restrictions of a traditional band and can change the formula at any time.”

Guest vocalists include the award winning filmmaker Cherry Mars and rising talent Jack Kenworthy; guest musicians such as Crazy P drummer Matt Klose, and Nottingham super-producer and writer, Chris Bucknall.

The album also features the pre-released up-tempo single, Crazy People, which thanks to the heavy weaponry of Max Sedgley (Sunday Best Recordings) on remix duties, earned itself a spot in the DMC Buzz Charts and on the airwaves and in DJ sets across the world.

Angel said: “I never really know how to categorize my music - although it resides under the chill out umbrella I don't really see it as chill out. I think of it more as pop which has been influenced by cooler genres like soul, jazz, folk and dub. My style of writing isn't very cryptic, my lyrics normally tell an obvious tale - a story with a beginning a middle, and an end.”

Available as a digital download with bonus tracks and video from iTunes, Somebody’s Heaven is a long player that will no doubt find its way onto the playlists of Ibiza’s beach bars and relaxed sun terraces; a perfect summer soundtrack.

YES SIR BOSS -‘MRS #1’ FEAT. JOSS STONE OUT 15 APRIL 2013 ON STONE’D RECORDS

On April 15th Yes Sir Boss release ‘Mrs #1’ featuring label owner Joss Stone, the band’s second single taken from debut album DesperationState (released October 2012). Showcasing a more accessible pop sound, ‘Mrs #1’ combines spacious instrumentation with catchy horn melodies and a driving funk bass line, all of which sit smoothly underneath the meeting of front man Matt Sellors’ husky vocals and Stone’s soulful brilliance as the two sing of trying too hard in love.

After jamming the song with Joss for the first time Matt acknowledged “I had never intended for the song to be a duet but the addition of female vocals seemed to add clarity to the lyrics, and in a way, make the song complete.” One of Joss’s favourite tracks from the album, she happily admitted “I love the song, it sounded great when we sung it together so we recorded it – simple as that!”

Yes Sir Boss’s diverse up-tempo sound takes the rhythmic foundations of ska and funk, and injects them with bluesy guitar riffs, spaghetti-western tinged jazz horns and pop-infused vocal melodies to create an irresistibly catchy mix with more than enough bite to cater to fans of all genres.

Yes Sir Boss began reaching a wider audience in 2011 after being asked to perform live sessions for BBC Radio London and Rob Da Bank’s Radio 1 show. Both remarked on the brewing talent the band conveyed with BBC London stating after the session “They totally rock out with the thrust power of Queens of the Stone Age.”

In 2012 the band totalled 150 live shows across the UK & Europe, including support on Joss Stone’s European ‘Soul Sessions 2’ tour and a 25 date UK album tour in October, where the band sold-out their album launch party at Camden’s Jazz Cafe for debut Desperation State produced by Steve Greenwell (Arrested Development & Joss Stone). Receiving strong online support, the album helped propel YSB further into Europe where in January this year they were invited to appear alongside life-long inspiration Madness at the illustrious Midem Music Conference in Cannes. The band are currently on a headline tour of Germany & Switzerland.

Yes Sir Boss have yet another busy year ahead of them, with a ‘Mrs #1’ UK tour in April, a packed summer of festival slots around Europe and preparations for the second album toward the end of 2013.

Jain Wells Supporting Matt Cardle On UK Tour

Canadian born singer/ songwriter and psychologist Jain Wells, will be supporting 2010 X Factor winner Matt Cardle on his UK tour ‘Unplugged’.

Performing songs from her ‘To Be Real’ album which was released late last year, Jain will be the opening act for the stint of shows beginning in Cork, Ireland on April 23rd.

Written by Jain, ‘To Be Real’ was produced by Greg Fitzgerald (Kylie, Madonna, Hall & Oates, Jessica Simpson) who, with Jain, created the perfect soundscape for her raw talent.

Jain has already been hugely successful in other aspects of her life, working as a magazine writer and editor in her native Canada, and spending a number of years as a therapist, gaining a PhD in Transpersonal Psychology. Her work as a psychologist provided the motivation for the album. “I am completely intrigued by human behaviour and how we can take an active role in our growth and evolution, and that perspective naturally comes through when I write.”

Character and personality shine through her music, her strength is evident and makes her songs both powerful and relatable offering up some deeply personal accounts of her own life experience, while on a very subtle level it is an invitation to break away from the familiar to embrace new perspectives. She welcomes her audience into her anecdotal songs and allows her personal stories to permeate through the lyrics.

As well as supporting Matt Cardle on his tour, Jain is currently looking forward to releasing her new meditation CD ‘Luminosity One’ in June, along with a meditation book titled ‘Meditation: the incredible gateway to an abundant life’.

Working with producer Kipper, who is best known for producing and performing on Sting’s best selling solo album ‘Brand New Day’ as well as platinum albums ‘All This Time’ and ‘Sacred Love’, Jain has created music which aims to take listeners on a relaxing journey towards the interesting and incredibly beneficial world of meditation.

Currently guiding regular meditation groups and a teacher training programme in London, Jain is equally eager to begin touring with Matt Cardle and remains committed to her music.

"My love of sharing about meditation and other tools for personal transformation is no different than sharing my music as the content and perspective on life is the same. My music life also represents my own opportunity to grow. Matt is a great talent with a beautiful voice, and I am very appreciative and honoured to open his UK Tour,” says Jain.

Matt Nathanson says Taylor Swift stole his song lyrics

'Laid' singer Matt Nathanson hit out at Taylor Swift recently because some of the lyrics on her new album are startlingly similar to some of his own.

One of Swift's songs from her new album 'Red', entitled 'All Too Well', includes the line "and I forget about you long enough to forget why I needed to", which Nathanson claims is more or less the same as a part of his 2003 song, 'I Saw':

"And I'll forget about you long enough to forget why I need to."

He tweeted about the coincidence on October 24, but has since deleted the message (pictured below). Nathanson returned to the social networking site this afternoon (November 2) and added: "so far, my favorite thing about today is the wave of @taylorswift13 fans calling me a prick on twitter for writing "i saw" in 2003."

Swift is a self-proclaimed fan of his and has been seen at some of her concerts with lyrics to his music written on her arms.

Multiplatinum band TRAIN has made its mark on music history with their GRAMMY Award winning song "Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)" and chart-topping singles "Meet Virginia" and "Calling All Angels." TRAIN earned their third GRAMMY earlier this year for worldwide smash "Hey Soul Sister" from its current release Save Me, San Francisco. "Hey Soul Sister" was the biggest selling single of 2010 and hit #1 at radio in the US and in 15 countries abroad. TRAIN hit #1 again with "If It's Love" and the current single "Marry Me" from Save Me, San Francisco has reached platinum status as well. In addition to taking the sales and radio worlds by storm, TRAIN has been all over television. They have performed on the American Music Awards, the Grammy Nomination Concert, Crossroads, The Today Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Monday Night Football, A&E Private Sessions, America's Got Talent, The View, Dancing With The Stars, Live With Regis and Kelly, Ellen DeGeneres Show, Lopez Tonight and more.

Capturing their first of three GRAMMY Awards as "Best New Artist" of 2005 and going on to sell more than 15 million albums worldwide, Maroon 5 won over fans and critics alike with their hybrid rock/R&B sound. The band recently released their third studio album, Hands All Over, which was produced by studio legend Robert John "Mutt" Lange. Met by critical praise, with Rolling Stone stating it's their "brightest sounding and poppiest album yet," the album notched a #2 debut on the Billboard Top 200 Albums' chart. Earlier this year, Maroon 5 received a GRAMMY Award nomination for "Misery," the debut single off Hands All Over, in the category of "Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals." The nod marks the group's seventh GRAMMY nomination overall and 4th in that category. Most recently, Maroon 5 has made waves with the release of their third single "Never Gonna Leave This Bed," which is currently blazing up the Hot AC and Top 40 charts. Maroon 5's releases have gone gold and platinum in over 35 countries around the world, including Hands All Over, which was certified gold by the RIAA in December 2010. In addition, frontman Adam Levine has joined the lineup of coaches for NBC's highly anticipated new series The Voice that will premiere on Tuesday, April 26 (9-11 p.m. ET).
