McFly's bassist Dougie Poynter has signed up to become an ambassador for the World Wide Fund for Nature and will back a campaign to save African mountain gorillas.

The cheeky pop-rocker recently travelled to the country in order to raise awarness for the cause and in a YouTube video he can be heard talking about how magnificent the creatures are and how important it is to preserve and look after them:

"It's been incredible... it's been one of those things that I will never ever forget... The biggest thing that I've learnt is that although these creatures are massive and so powerful, they are just incredibly fragile. Adopting a gorilla with WWF is the best way to protect them and to secure their future."

The WWF also released an official statement about Poynter's involvement with the organisation and it reads: "Dougie is supporting the launch of a new WWF mountain gorilla adoption which will help raise funds to protect the last two remaining populations of the species."

"As part of the International Gorilla Conservation Programme (Igcp) WWF is working to protect the gorillas, their habitats and the local communities who live alongside them."

Mcfly’s Dougie Poynter discusses time in rehab

McFly’s Dougie Poynter has opened up about his time in rehab.

The 24-year-old bassist, who spent a month in The Priory last year following a battle with drink and drugs, told The Sun’s Fabulous magazine that attending the treatment centre was one of the best things he’s ever done:

“It was 28 days of complete intensity, but the most important 28 days of my life. I was in this incredible group, and everyone has stayed sober and we all still stay in touch. I talked a lot, I cried a lot and I thought a lot.

“I had all these stupid things I was worrying about, like the fact I’d lost my libido, and I was able to say them out loud and people would talk about it and I’d feel better. I was very lucky because a lot of people don’t get sober straight away. I still go to therapy meetings and I’m teetotal. I don’t want to go back to being the person I was.”

The I’m A Celebrity…winner, who goes further into detail about his troubles in the group’s new book, 'Unsaid Things,' also revealed how his bandmates tried to help him as much as they could at the time:

"They just wanted to help. All of them did. Tom moved me in with him and Giovanna, Harry and Danny checked up on me all of the time. There was never a sense that I had messed up for them, they just wanted to sort me out."

McFly’s Tom Fletcher has revealed that he became obsessed about being the fat one in the band.

The 27-year-old, who speaks out in the boyband’s new book, 'Unsaid Things…Our Story,' admits that he followed a strict unhealthy diet routine in an effort to lose weight:

“I was obsessing about being the fat one in the band. I wanted to lose weight, but rather than going about it the sensible way, I pretty much stopped eating.

“I’d go to Starbucks and order a frappuccino and blueberry muffin and that was me for the day. Not eating apart from my daily Starbucks became my routine.”

The ‘Shine A Light’ singer, who also talks about his battle with depression and bipolar disorder in the book, goes on to admit:

“Not only would I beat myself up internally if I consumed anything else, I’d be in a foul mood if we were working somewhere there was no Starbucks.

“One day my car was in the garage so I got up extra early and walked several miles to our local town to get one. It was an obsession – and a deeply unhealthy one.”

'Memory Lane: The Best of McFly' Album Released: November 26th

Pop supergroup McFly return to the musical spotlight with brand new single ‘Love Is Easy’, followed by the release of their Greatest Hits album ‘Memory Lane’ on November 26th via Island records.

Without a doubt McFly are one of the most significant pop groups of the last ten years. Their albums ‘Room on The 3rd Floor’, ‘Wonderland’, ‘Motion In The Ocean’, ‘Radio:ACTIVE’ and ‘Above The Noise’ have sold 10 million copies worldwide. They’ve had seven UK No.1 singles, five top 10 albums and numerous sell out tours. 2011 saw a double reality win as McFly took over UK TV screens with Harry winning ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and Dougie ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’.

And it doesn’t stop there. With over 3 million Twitter followers collectively, the band solidified their online presence when they launched their unique and unrivalled ‘Super City’ website in 2010. The site offers unprecedented access to the band worldwide, uniting their fan base which stretches from the Far East to Australia to Brazil and South AmericNow McFly are ready to release all of their huge hits on one album. ‘Memory Lane’ features every must have McFly single, from their early smashes ‘Five Colours In Her Hair’ , ‘Obviously’ and Chris Moyle’s favourite ‘Star Girl’, to chart hits such as ‘All About You’, ‘One For The Radio’ ‘and Party Girl’, alongside the band’s recent and biggest selling single ‘Shine A Light’ Feat. Taio Cruz. The album also features two special demo versions of ‘That Girl’ and ‘Obviously’ both of which were the first tracks the band recorded together and are been previously unreleased. The collection is also available as a Deluxe edition which includes a second CD featuring 21 rare and unreleased tracks.

In addition the album features three new tracks. Leading the way is brand new single ‘Love Is Easy’. Written and produced by the band, the track has an acoustic feel, reminiscent of early McFly hits. Instinctive sweet vocals mix with a care-free catchy chorus which you can’t help but tap a toe and sing along to!

Each member of McFly is now major star in their own right. Harry stepped out from behind the drums and showed his dancing finesse during Strictly Come Dancing, eventually being crowned the winner, whilst Dougie was crowned King of the Jungle when he took part in the 2011 series of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. Danny is a successful club DJ, who is also writing and producing a dance album alongside his production work for McFly, whilst Tom has lent his song writing talents to a total of TEN UK No.1 singles, and has written several songs for One Direction.

Earlier this year McFly completed a massive 26 date sell-out UK tour, their biggest yet. In September they performed two shows at New York’s Gramercy Theatre and LA’s ROXY, both of which sold out in minutes and crashed the Ticketweb site upon release.

With a fan base that now stretches around the world, McFly continue to reinvent themselves and succeed beyond their own expectations.

McFly's Harry Judd reveals he nearly had romp with Lindsay Lohan

McFly star Harry Judd has revealed that he nearly bedded Lindsay Lohan.

The British band made a cameo in the 2006 film Just My Luck and it seems Judd made an impression on actress Lohan.

The Mirror quotes the drummer as saying that the band had been out for dinner before he and Lohan went to a party.

They later ended up in Lohan's hotel room but a drunken interruption from bandmate Danny Jones stopped things short. Speaking about hotel room shenanigans, Judd said:

"She was doing everything she could to fuel my ego, telling me how she loved my accent and how she didn't get with actors any more, only musicians. It makes me cringe to think about it now, but I responded in kind. This was like Notting Hill, I told her. I was Hugh Grant and she was Julia Roberts. She loved that."

He continued: "Then things started to get a bit more serious. A bit steamier. One thing led to another. We moved from first base to second base, and then, just as I was about to seal the deal, Danny walked in, 'Oh sorry, mate!'. For a while Lindsay and I carried on getting a bit frisky, but gradually she started to sober up. 'You've got to leave before eight', she said. I didn't really want to leave. We had unfinished business. But then she announced she was tired, pulled one of those airplane eye-masks over her eyes and went to sleep. So much for my romantic night of passion."

McFly's Dougie Poynter reveals suicide attempt

McFly star Dougie Poynter has spoken about his battle with drink and drugs, which ultimately led him to attempt suicide.

The bassist entered rehab in 2011 and it is revealed in the band's new autobiography that he tried to kill himself in a fume-filled car.

McFly recorded an interview on Alan Carr's Chatty Man show and the subject of suicide was raised, before the host said:

"Last time you were on Chatty Man you weren't yourself. Now I realise you were battling drink and drugs. Did you feel better once you wrote about it?"

Poynter replied: "It's always good to reflect on that sort of stuff. I'm in a really, really good place now. It is quite easy to forget. It's quite therapeutic to go back, quite scary and a bit of an eye opener into how dark it can get if you take your foot off the gas and stop looking after yourself."

Bandmate Harry Judd added: "Half the time you didn't know what you were doing – it was us telling you."

McFly honour American success with 'YMCA' tattoos

British pop-rockers McFly have celebrated the launch of their collective stateside career by getting some new body art.

The lads, who recently sold out some of their first ever headlining U.S. dates in under two minutes, explained to The Sun newspaper that to commemorate their success in America they decided to each get a permanent reminder.

Member Harry Judd explained: "We got some stupid tattoos. When we came to LA together five years ago we all had tattoos on our feet. They said bare foot, good f-foot, athlete’s foot and big foot."

“So when we came back this time we thought it would be a good idea to get YMCA tattooed on our feet – a letter each. We walked in to the same tattoo shop just up the street and said, ‘Hi mate, can we get YMCA tattooed on our feet?’ It was the same reaction as before, ‘Are you sure?’"

Speaking about performing at the legendary Roxy venue, Tom Fletcher added: "It’s our first ever proper, headlining gig in America – it’s taken us nine years. It’s been frustrating. We’ve wanted to come from day one but we’ve never had a record deal here so have concentrated on the UK."

“But this year we said enough is enough and we had to go to America. If we don’t do it now we’ll be 50 years old."
