Liam Gallagher: 'If my new album flops I might just disappear and enjoy my life'

Beady Eye frontman Liam Gallagher has admitted that if the band's forthcoming new record isn't successful he might consider calling it a day.

The group are due to release a new album, simply titled 'BE', this summer and during an interview with Q magazine, the outspoken musician explained that he's put a lot of effort into his career although it hasn't gathered the speed it expected so he's almost at the stage now where it's all or nothing:

"Well, if we're barking up the wrong tree with this record, I don't know if I can be arsed barking up it again. I'll never be a plumber, I'll never be a fashion designer. Maybe I'd just sail off into the distance and enjoy my life, instead of worrying what some spotty little t**t from Hastings thinks about the record."

Speaking to the NME recently, he confessed that 'BE' wasn't his choice for the album title at all: "I wanted to call it 'Universal Gleam'. But at Columbia [their record label], a lot of people got their knickers in a twist, putting out a record called 'Universal Gleam' when we're not on [the label] Universal. So yeah, it's 'BE'. 'BE'. 'BE' who you are. 'BE' whatever you f**king want to be. 'BE'. F**king bumble-'BE'."

PAUL WELLER Performing live at ROUGH TRADE EAST for Record Store Day on April 20th

Paul Weller is excited to announce that he will be performing at the Rough Trade East store in E1 as part of the Record Store Day celebrations on Saturday April 20th at 8pm. This comes on the same day as Paul releases two brand new tracks – Flame-Out! And The Olde Original - as a double a-side single, also as part of Record Store Day

This will be a fantastic chance to get up close and personal with the Modfather himself.

Paul will be performing a 30 min set in the surrounds of the store. For this once-in-a lifetime show Paul has enlisted young whippersnappers Pete O’Hanlon and Josh McClorey from upcoming Irish group The Strypes who will feature on bass and guitar respectively. The line-up will be completed by drummer Jay Sharrock from Miles Kane’s band.

How to get tickets:

From 8am Tuesday 16th April, there will be 250 wristbands only available from ROUGH TRADE EAST to give away - first come, first served. This wristband will guarantee them entry to Paul Weller's performance only - it will not guarantee queue jumping into the shop throughout the day on RSD.

Before the performance, staff at the shop will have to ask non-wrist-banded customers to leave. Then all wrist-banded people will get in.

Weller’s RSD single features the two totally brand new tracks Flame-Out! and The Olde Original which are recorded exclusively for this year’s Record Store Day. Destined to be one of the most hotly anticipated releases for the event, the double a-side will be released through Virgin Records as a collectable 7”vinyl on the 20th, with a digital release on the following day available for one month only.

Well-loved punk rockers Green Day are set to return to the stage later this month with their first live show since member Billie Joe Armstron was admitted to rehab, but they're nervous about performing.

The band's bassist, Mike Dirnt, spoke to NME about getting back to playing shows and explained that they expect it will be "nerve-wracking": "It's nerve-wracking playing these shows after Billie Joe's rehab. The s**t really hit the fan but we're ready to get the f**k out of home again."

Dirnt also revealed that they've made some new backstage rules, which they hope will help encourage Billie Joe to stay sober: "He's in a good place. What I will say is backstage is going to be a lot different from now on. We'll watch for stuff getting passed around, not let idiots walk backstage, not get hammered and s**t like that."

"When you're in a band, everyone in the world wants to have a shot with you. But if you have a shot with everyone in the world you'd be dead."

The 'American Idiot' trio will perform at SXSW on March 15 and have also been confirmed as one of the headlining acts for this year's Reading and Leeds Festival in the UK.

Jake Bugg has rekindled his feud with One Direction after slagging them off at last night's (February 27) NME Awards.

The pop group were nominated for the Worst Band gong at the London ceremony - which they later won - but Bugg reckons they shouldn't be called a band.

He told ITV that they are probably just around to "look good" and believes they don't know anything about performing music. The rising star said:

"I don't know how they can really be considered a band, to be honest. I'm not too sure. I think the more I play on it, it'll wind them up."

He added: "They're there to look good. Music wise? I assume they don't really have a clue. We'll just see. They might do. Probably the ugliest one is the best singer. He might know a couple of chords."

As previously reported, Bugg recently took aim at One Direction in a magazine interview - prompting Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson to retort on Twitter.

David Bowie's producer says the singer is open to doing a one-off gig.

The enigmatic star recently revealed that he would be releasing his first album in ten years in March, as well as a new single.

Producer Tony Visconti soon after disappointed fans by telling NME: "He's fairly adamant he's never gonna perform live again. One of the guys would say, 'Boy, how are we gonna do all this live?' and David said, 'We're not'. He made a point of saying that all the time."

However, Visconti has now told the Telegraph that whilst touring is definitely not in mind, the idea of a single show could be on the cards. He said:

"He doesn't want to tour any more. He's had enough of it. But he hasn't ruled out that he might do a show."

Bowie's new album 'The Next Day' is due to be released on March 11 in the UK.

Jack White clarifies Lady Gaga criticism

Jack White has responded to quotes attributed to the singer that suggest Lady Gaga is purely about image.

As previously reported, the White Stripes man was said to have told Esquire that Gaga is "all image with no meaning behind it" and something that "you can't sink your teeth into".

However, in a lengthy statement posted on his website, White said that his words were taken out of context. He said:

"I'd like to address the recent tabloidesque drama baiting by the press in regards to Lady GaGa. I never said anything about her music, or questioned the authenticity of her songs in any way."

He continued: "I was in a conversation about the drawbacks of image for the sake of image, and that it is popular nowadays to not question an image in front of you, but only to label it as 'cool' or 'weird' quickly and dispose of it. I don't like my comments about Lady GaGa's presentation being changed into some sort of negative critique of her music. If you're going to try to cause drama, at least get the quotes right."

White added: "I think journalists should also be held accountable for what they say. Especially publications like the NME who put whatever words they feel like between two quotation marks and play it off as a quote. Maybe somebody with more lawyers can take them to task, but I'll just use the internet and Twitter instead. I also think that kind of tabloid drama encourages artists to not express their opinions in the press, and instead give polite soundbites that don't stimulate thought about creativity and the consumption of art in its many guises."

He concluded: "Peace to Lady GaGa and I fully congratulate and compliment her on her championing of gay rights issues and the momentum it's given to help create change."

Feisty pop songstress Ke$ha has revealed that a fan once made her feel incredibly threatened by posting a 'bloody' weapon to her.

In the new issue of the NME, which is out today (October 31), the 'Die Young' hitmaker explained that she once opened a package containing a knife that was covered in blood and it had been sent from a fan along with a menacing letter:

"It came from one of my fans. He said if I wasn’t his then I would be no one’s and he would come and take me. I’m kind of scared he’s gonna make me into a lamp."

She also admitted that the stunt she pulled in Australia where she appeared to drink blood out of a human heart "was real": "I did it on stage in Sydney. I think I was hanging out with Alice Cooper too much. I was just really inspired to do it. There wasn’t a very good reason behind it."

Former Oasis guitarist Bonehead says he disagrees with Noel Gallagher’s recent comments about their 1997 album, 'Be Here Now.'

The High Flying Birds star told the NME last month that the band’s much-derided third studio effort 's**t on the legacy' of 1995 predecessor, 'What’s The Story (Morning Glory).'

However his ex-bandmate, who played with Oasis from 1991 until 1999, told the same publication that he thinks the record has an unfair bad reputation:

"I can’t speak for him but I don’t honestly think it was shit, because it wasn’t. It wasn't on a par with 'Definitely Maybe' but I certainly wouldn’t say it was shit. If 'Be Here Now' was the latest debut album, it would get rave reviews. But if you’re following on the back of 'Definitely Maybe' then it's hard to follow isn't it?

“The press jumped in and slated it because it was the difficult one after 'Definitely Maybe' and 'What's The Story…' Maybe Noel’s just saying that to cover his back but I certainly don’t think it’s a shit album."

Muse admit people were doubtful of their dubstep direction

Devon rock trio Muse are set to release their new album 'The 2nd Law' on October 1 and have admitted that when people first heard that they had infused it with dubstep the reaction was less than desirable.

Speaking to The Sun newspaper, frontman Matt Bellamy explained that fans were initially "skeptical" about the track 'Unsustainable', but they were keen to try something new so stuck to their guns:

"For 'Unsustainable' I wanted to write the idea electronically and then when we came to record it we did it with real, organic instruments and we got a real orchestra in."
