Bonnie Tyler: 'People tell me my song's too good to win Eurovision'

Songstress Bonnie Tyler has admitted that she's doubtful her Eurovision Song Contest entry will win this year because people keep telling her that it's too good.

She will represent the UK in Malmo, Sweden this coming weekend (May 18) with a track called 'Believe In Me' and Wales Online has quoted her as saying that fans keep saying it's unlikely the UK will win with such a strong offering:

"It has been said to me over the last couple of weeks, ‘You’re not going to win this Bonnie, your song is too good!’ Which is crazy, huh?"

Referring to being asked to enter Eurovision 2013, she added: "Firstly it was like, ‘Wow, Eurovision!’ I’d been asked 30 years ago and I couldn’t do it because I was so busy with 'Total Eclipse Of The Heart', which was number one and the album was number one too."

“About 120 million people watch Eurovision and I have a lot of friends in Europe. Maybe that’s why the BBC asked me because maybe they thought there’s a good chance. We have got a good song but you never know what can happen in Eurovision. It’ll be a great experience, I’m sure about that.”

With her album ‘The Shocking Miss Emerald’ sitting at number 1 in the UK charts Caro Emerald announces the release of ‘Liquid Lunch’, a fun and witty pop tune delivered in Caro’s distinctively sassy retro style.

Radio 2’s “Record Of The Week”, ‘Liquid Lunch’ is the second single to be taken from ‘The Shocking Miss Emerald’, Caro’s second album and her first to hit the British top spot - her debut album, 2010’s ‘Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor’ peaked at number 4 selling more than 400,000 copies.

Where ‘Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor’ took its inspiration from the Hollywood cinema and the glitz and glamour of the jazz scene, ‘The Shocking Miss Emerald’ is inspired by the epicentre of style, romance, excitement and dangerous liaisons – Paris. As Caro explains “I read about a Parisian designer from the early 1900s. Her clothes became so famous that, when she died, nobody noticed for a year because everyone was still talking about her. We looked at the arts scene in Paris at the time, the music, the photography, the fashion. I was so inspired that I co-wrote one of the songs, The Maestro, about Karl Lagerfeld.”

While the essence of ‘The Shocking Miss Emerald’ is rooted in the past, the sound - complete with samples, scratching and beats - is thoroughly modern, “I would call it a fun mix of vintage jazz, beats and pop” explains Caro. The Amsterdam Conservatory trained jazz vocalist is an original pop star with the look of a Hollywood icon of yesteryear, a voice that oozes warmth and fun, and a collection of exciting, catchy signature songs that have connected with fans throughout Europe. ‘The Shocking Miss Emerald’ also entered the Dutch charts at number 1 this week, following the precedent set by ‘Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor’ which subsequently spent a record-breaking 30 weeks at number 1.

Having sold out her March UK tour (including a night at the Royal Albert Hall) Caro recently announced a 14 date September tour which is already sold out. Caro recently appeared on This Morning and BBC Breakfast on May 14th before performing at Hello Magazine’s 25th Anniversary celebrations in London this week.

Pressparty speaks to Tich about her debut single, fans and One Direction

Tich is one of the hottest rising stars in the British pop scene, and she's the envy of millions after being championed by One Direction and The Wanted. The singer, who has already supported the likes of Justin Bieber and Olly Murs, has just unleashed her first single - so what better time to catch up with the 19-year-old to find out more? We also invited Tich fans to send in their questions via Twitter - read five of them at the bottom of the interview.

You've just released your debut single 'Dumb'. How's the reception been so far?

Oh my gosh, it's been so incredible. More than I could ever have wished for. It's a real testament to everyone who has supported me.

You've been performing live for a number of years - do you see this as your big break in a way?

I don't know if there is a big break anymore. I've always gigged and I hard work - I try to build a family of people around me, and hopefully that pays off.

Did you ever think about going on something like the X Factor?

That's never been a route that I've personally gone down. I've always written songs and performed them, so it hasn't been necessary in what I've done to do that. Never say never, but I think for me I'll always just go down the gigging route.

Some people will think of many up and coming popstars as being 'manufactured', but you don't really fit that bill?

I've been in the industry going hard for six years, but it's what I love to do and I think that's the way to do it - it's really in you.

It must mean you've got a bit of a fanbase already?

They're incredible. I call them TichFam, because I see them as part of the family. They get me through as much as I hopefully help them. They really rallied around and their support for 'Dumb' has been so incredible. It's kind of overwhelming to watch.

Do you have an album in the works?

Yeah, it's basically done. But I believe it's always been written - I can add to it and take away every day. It'll hopefully come out this year.

Any interesting collaborations on it?

There's a few that I can't say at the moment, but all will be revealed I'm sure...

You have recently received praise on Twitter from members of One Direction - was that surprising for you?

Yeah - I didn't expect it when Harry [Styles] and Louis [Tomlinson] tweeted me. To have such support from such influential people...I love how they work, I love their music...it means a lot.

Would you be open to working with them in the future?

Yeah, I'd love to.

What influences have inspired your songwriting?

Max Martin has really influenced me. Things around me inspire me. Classical music inspires me too. And I just write to help myself feel better sometimes.

What would you do if you weren't a singer? (from @NDUBZsarahlou)

I love cooking, so maybe a chef? I love being creative and making things.

What was the funniest moment about the Olly Murs tour? (from @LaurenJLS_Marv)

There's so many...probably when Loveable Rogues tried all my clothes on.

What does it feel like to be a celebrity? (from @Amiee_LouisGirl)

I wouldn't say that! When people come up and know who I am, I find that so crazy. I always think they're talking to someone else.

What was it like touring with Pixie Lott and Justin Bieber at such a young age? (from @AmberLottX)

I don't think it quite sunk in at the time. Looking back, I can't actually believe it. Pixie is a lovely, lovely girl and Justin obviously has gone on to do such incredible things. He was absolutely lovely as well. At the time I just kind of worked with it, but when I look back now I'm like 'Wow'.

If you had a pet giraffe, what would you name it? (from @kayleighhunter)

Jeremy!

One Direction donned a number of football strips from countries around the globe as they promoted their newly announced 2014 tour.

As previously reported, the boyband confirmed yesterday (May 16) the first batch of dates for their Where We Are stadium tour after teasing a 'big announcement' for a week.

It will kick off in South America in spring before travelling to the UK and Ireland, with more concerts due to be released.

The group announced the news at a press conference at London's Wembley Stadium, before hitting the pitch to pose in football tops from the countries they will visit.

There were seen in tops from the likes of Paraguay and Brazil - although they ditched the traditionally underachieving Scottish football team by wearing the country's rugby strip instead.

The group also had a kickabout on the famous pitch.

A video of The Saturdays' Mollie King 'twerking' has become something of a minor internet hit.

As previously reported, US star Miley Cyrus recently hit the headlines after performing a twerk dance routine in a unicorn onesie for an online video clip.

It seems the twerk craze has spread, with King the next to be filmed dancing the routine - albeit without a onesie.

The clip was uploaded by bandmate Rochelle Humes after '#mollietwerksit' became a trending topic on Twitter.

The video has been viewed over 25,000 times - but unfortunately for The Saturdays singer, it has a long way to go to beat the popularity of Cyrus's clip.

The girl group do have something to celebrate, however, with their latest single 'What About Us' hitting No.1 in the UK chart on Sunday (March 24).

The Saturdays have reiterated their desire to see one of their singles hit the top of the UK chart.

The girl group are yet to secure a No.1, with the quintet coming achingly close in 2009 with the No.2 single 'Just Can't Enough'.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Una Healy said that she would to see their upcoming single 'What About Us' claim the top spot.

However, the singer remains cautious and is refusing to put all her eggs in one basket. She said:

"You'll always be hoping, but I don't want to count our chickens and get too excited. If it doesn't happen I don't want to feel disappointed, because we've got this far without ever having one."

The Saturdays star continued: "It would definitely be a cherry on top if we ever did get one. I won't put all my hopes on it, but I'll be very pleased if we get a good Top 10 position of some sort."

The group's new single 'What About Us' is released in the UK on Sunday (March 17).

David Bowie set for first No.1 in two decades

David Bowie is on course to land his first UK No.1 album in 20 years.

The singer's new record 'The Next Day' was released in the country on March 11 and the Official Charts Company say it is outselling current the No.2 album - Bon Jovi's 'What About Now' - by three to one.

This means that it is set to become his first No.1 album since 1993's 'Black Tie White Noise'.

Chart data also revealed that 'The Next Day' - which spawned lead single 'Where Are We Now?' - had the best first-day sales of the year so far, with 56,000 units shifted.

Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot said of the album:

"Bowie is officially back! 'The Next Day' is a true gift for all Bowie aficionados. It already sounds like a classic Bowie album – and its popularity this week is already showing that the great British public have taken it to their hearts."

Bowie will find out on Sunday (March 17) if his new record will officially be No.1 in the UK.

James Arthur would go topless if he had muscles

James Arthur has admitted that he lacks the confidence to go topless.

The singer won the 2012 series of the X Factor and saw his debut single 'Impossible' sell hundreds of thousands of copies.

Despite his impressive rise to fame and legions of adoring fans, Arthur doesn't seem to have the confidence to reveal his body just yet.

He told The Sun that if he did have muscles under his t-shirt, he would probably go topless more often. Arthur said:

"If I had a trainer and a washboard stomach, of course I would get it out."

The talent show star continued: "But at the moment I find it too weird - it's just confidence."

The 'Impossible' man added that he is set to limit his drinking sessions to twice a month in order to work on his debut album.
