Once famously described as ‘licentious, festering reprobates’ and ‘leprous anti-establishment scumbags’ and banned from playing in their home country, it’s difficult to overestimate the shock and awe The Boomtown Rats inspired in late 70s Ireland. The Rats set out to “disrupt, disturb and question what it meant to be young in the Ireland of the mid-70s”.

Formed in 1975 in Dublin The Boomtown Rats exploded out of Ireland in ’76 and their fast, loud, furious music and their fast loud furious attitude meant they became part of the burgeoning punk scene. Singer Bob Geldof’s defiant motormouth arrogance and flagrant disrespect for authority endeared him and his band to every youth who felt weighed down by the heavy handed blandishments of church and state. In the UK The Boomtown Rats first toured with the Ramones and Talking Heads rocking and mocking the status quo alongside the Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Jam and The Stranglers. They became one of the biggest bands of the late 70s/80s with a string of top ten hits and platinum albums, earning them Brit Awards, Ivor Novellos and Grammy Awards. Making history as the first Irish band to have a UK no 1 hit with ‘Rat Trap’, they went on to top the charts in 32 Countries with ‘I Don't Like Mondays’ and racked up 6 era-defining albums: ‘The Boomtown Rats’ (’77), ‘A Tonic For The Troops’ (’78), ‘The Fine Art Of Surfacing’ (’79), ‘Mondo Bongo’ (’80), ‘V Deep’ (’82) and ‘In The Long Grass’ (’84).

Says Bob: “_age,curiosity and cash prompted our interest in getting together again. Age and cash are self evident. Curiosity about each other and what we did together in the '70' and 80's. Curiosity about those songs that seem to have endured and the music and band that powered them. When I sang again Rat Trap,Looking After No 1, Mondays, Someone's Looking At You, Banana Republic, She's So Modern etc, there was nothing I would change. On re-hearing, on re-singing them I understood that they could have been written yesterday. the circumstances within which they were written hadn't changed. Tragically and unfortunately.I could sing those words with utter conviction. This isn't nostalgia rather perhaps a time to be angry again. A time to hear a great band like The Boomtown Rats again. If only for a short while...”

Scouting For Girls to Release Greatest Hits Album 29th July - New Single 'Millionaire' 21st July

British pop band Scouting For Girls took the country by storm 6 years ago with their witty lyrics and catchy pop songs, and will be releasing their Greatest Hits album on 29th July 2013, through Sony. The album includes two brand new songs including first single ‘Millionaire’ released on 21st July 2013.

New song ‘Millionaire’ is an impossibly jaunty pop song, which is Scouting For Girls in excelsis; it’s summery and irresistible, and produced by Martin Terefe (‘I'm Yours’ by Jason Mraz, ‘Hey Soul Sister’ by Train).

Best of friends from an early age Roy, Greg and Pete toiled for years being in a band and building their fanatical fan club the Wolfcubs. The band were signed by Epic in 2007 and success happened quickly. In 2008 Scouting For Girls self-titled debut album topped the British charts and found its way into a million UK homes. Nominations for BRIT, Ivor Novello and MTV Europe awards soon followed. The next album ‘Everybody Wants To be On TV’ entered the charts at number 2 with their first number 1 single ‘This Ain’t A Love Song’ and their most recent ‘The Light Between Us’ went Top 10.

Over the course of three sparkling, life-affirming, Top 10 albums Scouting For Girls have also made the journey from playing pubs in Harrow and Ruislip to headlining Wembley Arena. This, then, is the tale of three friends who followed their dream, seduced a nation and sold two million records along the way.

Roy Stride, singer, songwriter, pianist and guitarist in Scouting For Girls has also become a sought after pop writer with cuts on One Direction, Olly Murs and Alexandra Burke albums.

Greatest Hits track listing is below:

Pete Wentz: 'Fall Out Boy is the only band willing to save rock 'n' roll'

Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz claims that he and his bandmates are the only band "willing to try and save rock 'n' roll".

The band's new LP, appropriately titled 'Save Rock & Roll', dropped earlier this week on April 15.

Wentz told the Daily Star he felt that in today's music scene he found a lack of "rock star heroes", claiming that he was fed up of other bands all sounding the same.

"Why are we the only band willing to take up the challenge of saving rock 'n' roll?" he said. "I want us to make kids feel the way I did watching Guns N' Roses videos as a kid – you need rock star heroes. In our time off, I listened to a lot of radio and it all sounded the same."

Lead singer Patrick Stump added: "People will be mad about our album title, but it’s so sad when bands play it safe."

"When rock 'n' roll becomes predictable – a certain look or sound – it's the least rock 'n' roll thing I can think of. It's like there's a prescription available for how you should rock, and we're here to save the idea of rock 'n' roll," Stump said.

Courtney Love and Elton John both feature on the new album, which also includes tracks 'Young Volcanoes', 'My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light 'Em Up)' and 'The Phoenix'.

Pete Doherty planned Winehouse collaborations

Pete Doherty had planned to record a series of jazz songs with Amy Winehouse before her death last year.

After a lengthy battle with drink and drugs, the 'Back To Black' singer passed away in July 2011. Winehouse enjoyed a close friendship with Doherty, with the Babyshambles star even admitting recently that the pair were lovers.

He revealed that before her passing, he and Winehouse had hoped to record some cover versions together.

He said: ''We always planned to do some Billie Holiday songs together - 'Good Morning Heartache' and 'These Foolish Things'. Whenever we'd get together with guitars, we'd go through them.''

Doherty - who is famed for his drug addictions and brushes with the law - also added that he feels "resentful" of Amy's death.

He added: ''No one got the chance to say goodbye. It was such a shock. There are so many things I'm resentful of [about the situation], but I almost feel that it's not my business. I wouldn't want to offend anyone. A few times there have been tragic deaths of my friends, and their families have made me feel less than welcome in celebrating their memory. Like I was held responsible for these deaths.''

Pete Doherty: "I'm a tabloid creation"

Babyshambles star Pete Doherty thinks people are disappointed that he's not a "dribbling mess".

The singer is famed for his frequently-publicised drug addictions and brushes with the law, but now claims he is as "clean as a whistle."

Speaking to the Metro, Doherty said: ‘It’s almost like I’m a disappointment to some people because I’m not completely f***ed up, a dribbling mess. That person doesn’t really exist. It’s a tabloid creation and they don’t like it that I’m not like that, so they keep fuelling this fire.

He added: "They don’t want me to be at peace. They don’t want me to look good. They don’t want me to be happy. It’s got to be f***ed up, if it’s to do with me."

Doherty was rarely out of the headlines and moved to Paris to escape the constant interest surrounding his wayward lifestyle.

He revealed: "I reached the point where I was getting arrested all the time in London. I couldn’t walk down the street. London becomes a very small village eventually. You run out of places. It was inescapable."

Pete Doherty and Amy Winehouse were lovers

Babyshambles star Pete Doherty has revealed his love for late singer Amy Winehouse, claiming she "didn't suffer fools" when it came to relationships.

After a lengthy battle with drink and drugs, the 'Back To Black' singer passed away in July of last year.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Doherty says he misses Winehouse immensely, adding that they were once more than friends.

He explained: “This is difficult for me to admit. But, yes, it’s true. Amy and I were lovers. I loved her then and, well, I still do today. But towards the end, as only lovers can, she became quite mean and cruel to me. She didn’t suffer fools… and believe me, she had a mean right hook.”

Doherty also had a tumultuous relationship with British supermodel Kate Moss after meeting in 2005. The troubled singer is glad Moss is now happily married to The Kills rocker Jamie Hince.

Doherty added: “I got a call from Kate a couple of weeks ago, which came as a surprise as we haven’t exchanged a word since it ended. And believe me, it ended nastily. But she was friendly and just asked me what I was up to. She wanted to know why I hadn’t written any songs recently and whether I was still taking drugs. She said she was staying clean and that she was very happily married.

“It came as a huge relief to hear from her and I felt a weight lift off my shoulders. It was a really important call because it put a few unresolved issues to bed for me. She told me that despite everything that had happened between us, she was still rooting for me and that was nice. It means a lot to me to know that.”

Pete Doherty: 'I shot up heroin on movie set'

Babyshambles star Pete Doherty has revealed that while on set filming scenes for his debut movie role he injected himself with heroin.

Speaking to The Guardian newspaper, the rocker explained that he was still hooked on drugs when he landed his first film job in director Sylvie Verheyde's big-screen adaptation of Alfred de Musset's classic novel, 'Confession Of A Child Of The Century'.

"It's poison but it's also medicine. When you're in that state, you can't function unless you have your fix... But I was so absorbed in the work, there wasn't a chance (to go to rehab)... I couldn't hide it from (Verheyde)."

"She didn't really care. It was just a question of how quickly I can find a vein and then let's get on with it."

Earlier this week, Doherty also opened up about his painful split from supermodel Kate Moss and confessed that she had set fire to his childhood teddy bear and even smashed one of his guitars over his head during a fit of emotional rage.

Pete Doherty on Kate Moss split: 'She smashed a guitar over my head'

Rocker Pete Doherty has opened up about the emotional torment he suffered at the hands of supermodel Kate Moss during their painful break up.

The couple split several years ago, but Doherty has revealed that he'll never forget the end of their relationship because Moss acted dramatically and even set fire to his childhood teddy bear:

"I had Pandy with me always, everywhere I went. And when we split up, Kate burnt it. How can you do that, what kind of sick f**k does that? The way that it ended with her was completely apocalyptic. It was horrible - burnt teddy bears, broken hearts, it's as bad as it gets."

He then admitted that the toy-burning wasn't where it ended because at one point the beauty even attacked him with one of his own guitars: "The worst thing she did was pretty bad - smashing a guitar over your head when asleep."

Doherty added that although Moss is now married to Jamie Hince, she still drunk dials him occasionally:

"She wants to get drunk and call me to talk s**t. That's fine but I wouldn't be able to do that to her. Anyway, she's married. I've listened to her [on voicemail]. A couple of times she's got drunk and called me and had been a bit silly. But she's a happily married woman, why does she want to speak to me?"

"Maybe she's still in love with me ... No she's not. She hates my guts anyway."

Pete Doherty acting debut panned by critics

Pete Doherty’s acting skills have been panned by critics following the premiere of his debut film in Cannes earlier today.

The 33-year-old rocker appears as Octave, a libertine who suffers from depression after his mistress betrays him, in period drama Confession of a Child of the Century alongside the likes of Lily Cole and Charlotte Gainsbourg.

However, the initial reaction to his first big-screen role was less than complimentary, with Cine-Vue comparing his performance to a “a sixth former who hasn't learnt his lines for drama class,” while the BBC claimed “it is difficult to recall a less charismatic lead performance in any other film.”

Screen Daily were also less than convinced, posting: "With a more or less permanently bored expression, Doherty looks like he'd rather be somewhere else; he only really comes alive in a few passages of what look like improvised laddish dialogue."

The adaptation of Alfred de Musset’s 19th century novel will open in France in September but is yet to secure a release date in the UK.

Pete Doherty reveals ambition to enter Eurovision

Pete Doherty has admitted he would love to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest.

The 33-year-old, who this week spoke out about his friendship with the late Amy Winehouse, told French magazine L’Officiel that he has even got an entry already lined up for the historic competition:

"I was saying to this bird the other night, 'I would love to do Eurovision'. She was going 'Nah, it's really tacky', but fuck that. I would love to do it and I would love to win it for England. I've got the song."

The controversial singer then appeared to switch allegiances when told it’s ‘tacky to say it’s tacky’ by the interviewer, declaring: "Fuck it, let's get in the Eurovision. Actually, I would like to enter on behalf of France."

The former Libertines frontman is not the first indie artist to be linked with Eurovision, with both Morrissey and Jarvis Cocker rumoured to have been in talks about penning the UK entry in recent years.

Pete Doherty on Amy Winehouse's tragic death: "I’m made to feel like I’m not her friend, which I was"

Pete Doherty has given an exclusive interview to the NME about his relationship with the late Amy Winehouse and revealed that it saddens him to think that people don't realise how close they really were.

Speaking about his friendship with Winehouse, who tragically died last July at only 27-years-old, Doherty explained that he was devastated by the news and was already at a very low point in his life:

"When Amy died I was sat in a room, a matchbox room in Camden Town not able to leave, basically wallowing in my own filth. Literally knee-deep in s***. Literally not able to move."

"I couldn’t speak, I couldn’t see anyone, I couldn’t pick up the guitar, and when I did pick up the guitar it was woeful ballads about how Amy wouldn’t be coming round tonight. It wasn’t a very inspiring time."

He also admitted that not attending her funeral has almost stopped him from being able to grieve for her properly, adding:

"I think she would have wanted me at the funeral. It’s a personal feeling of grief I’ve never had a chance to see through. I’m made to feel like I’m not her friend, which I was."

"She came to The Libertines’ gig at the Forum. That was one of the last nights we spent together. We came back to the hotel and she stayed all night. At one point it was me, her and Carl having a little sing-song and it was all good, you know?"

Pete Doherty opens up about Kate Moss split

Pete Doherty has revealed that he regrets the way his two-and-a-half-year relationship with Kate Moss ended.

The former Libertines front-man, who recently confirmed he’s become a father for the second time, admitted in an interview with The Independent that he ‘was a bit unhinged at the time':

'The thing is, she knew from day one when we began our relationship that I was using very heavily. She knew that. So, you can't suddenly turn around and say, "you've got to stop all that." I do have regrets about Kate, but I wouldn't want to talk to you about them. I'd only talk to a highly skilled doctor with large amounts of morphine and a hypnotherapist. And a small monkey.'

The 32-year-old also revealed that Moss trashed most of his belongings after their less than amicable split back in 2007:

'Kate used to collect elephants, so I'd buy them for her wherever I went. When we split up she destroyed all my stuff, but she didn't destroy my elephants. Because I couldn't get over her for a while I just kept buying elephants and now I've got a huge elephant collection for sale.”

Doherty later added that he is considering sending the collection as a belated wedding present to Moss, who married The Kills’ guitarist Jamie Hince at a ceremony in the Cotswolds last year.
