The Pretty Reckless to tour with Evanescence on North American and European Dates

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Oct. 3, 2011 -- New York rock band The Pretty Reckless, fronted by singer and guitarist Taylor Momsen, will hit the road with Evanescence in October for a series of tour dates in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Germany. The U.S. leg begins October 10th in Oakland and visits major cities in the U.S. and Canada before wrapping up inNew York City on November 1st. The band, which also includes guitarist Ben Phillips, bassist Mark Damon, and drummer Jamie Perkins, then heads to the U.K. for a string of November dates, followed by four shows in Germany at the end of the month. Please see below for all tour dates.

"Evanescence is one of the first bands I ever saw live," Momsen says. "I'm so excited to be on tour with them in the U.S. and Europe!"

In September, The Pretty Reckless earned the distinction of becoming the first international band to play a multi-city club tour of China, visiting the outlying cities of Hangzhou, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, in addition to Beijing (for the Beijing Intercity Music Festival) and Shanghai (where they performed at the Mao Livehouse). Over the summer, the band performed at the Oxygen Festival in Ireland, the Summer Sonic Festival in Japan, and Lollapalooza in Chicago.

The Pretty Reckless are touring in support of their current album Light Me Up, which was released in the U.S. on Interscope Records in February. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Rock chart in the U.K., where it spent six consecutive weeks in the top spot following its release in August 2010. Enjoying strong support in the U.K., the band was nominated for both Best Group and Best Newcomer at the 2010 Virgin Media Music Awards.

Here's what the critics have been saying about The Pretty Reckless:

"The Pretty Reckless are a battering ram of a hard-rock band that Momsen has no difficulty steering. Light Me Up is terrific fun: salacious, convincingly muscular, unnervingly rowdy." — The New York Times

"Momsen's low-pitched purr, set against the choppy metallic kink of her band, showed off the sort of wrath that made Courtney Love famous. Except that Momsen sounded clearer and finer than Love ever could." – The Philadelphia Inquirer

"The girl can really belt out a tune. She's got a gutsy, appealingly raw and grainy alto that puts her in the same company asCourtney Love and the young Sass Jordan." – The Toronto Star

"Momsen's stage presence is magnetic." – Phoenix New Times

"Fans expecting a shot of saccharine, bubble gum pop from The Pretty Reckless will be surprised at the rough-hewn sound of the band." – The Detroit News

Shayne Ward loves being back on stage and plans to make new music

Following the news back in April that Shayne Ward had been cut from Syco's roster, the 'Breathless' singer is bouncing back with a new role in a west end show and potential new music plans in the pipeline.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star newspaper, Ward explained that playing a cheeky rocker in the musical Rock Of Ages is great and he intends to return to the studio once his stint is over. He even admitted that Simon Cowell is welcome to watch him on stage because his career is owed to the music mogul:

"If he likes rock, he’s more than welcome. I wouldn’t be here now if it wasn’t for Simon. I had a three-album deal and did three albums. Lady GaGa got dropped, The Beatles took ages to get signed."

“Once I finish the show I’ll be back in the studio. I’m proud of the last album and I’m not done with it. I still have the rights. This isn’t the end of me as a pop star."

"Learning lines has been like learning song lyrics. The challenge for me has been the American accent – it’s set on Sunset Boulevard. It’s tough, but I have a diction coach. I never thought I could do rock but my vocal coach said the fact I haven’t sung like that before is amazing."

Blink 182's drummer Travis Barker has revealed that he's considering undergoing a course of hypnotherapy to cure him of his fear of flying.

The star was involved in a plane crash back in 2008 and miraculously escaped, but it claimed the lives of two of his fellow passengers and cost him months in recovery.

Speaking to the Rolling Stone magazine, Barker explained that it makes touring hard because it takes him longer to travel than his band mates but he's willing to work on it:

"Unfortunately I can't do as much touring as I would like because I don't fly. It's an obstacle. I'm working on it though. I'm trying to get hypnotised, trying to talk to a doctor who retrains your brain. Maybe he'll help me fly again one day."

He also opened up about how the terrible accident prompted him to change his lifestyle entirely, adding:

"I run every day now. I never ran before. In the hospital, I promised myself that if I ever walked again, that I would eat well and swim every day. I've been vegan since I got out of the hospital... and before the plane crash, I was battling a painkiller addiction. For years."

"I can proudly say I didn't even take any pain medication after I got out of the hospital. They told me I'd be on some of the medicine for the rest of my life, but I got off all of them. They made me a completely different person."

Garbage will release a new studio album in 2012

Garbage are currently in the studio putting the finishing touches to their fifth studio album, their first in seven years. The new album is being recorded in a basement in the Atwater Village area of Los Angeles, the first to be recorded outside of Madison, Wisconsin. The as yet untitled album will be released in Spring 2012, and is being produced by Garbage, engineered by Billy Bush, and mixed by Butch Vig and Billy Bush.

“Years-worth of pent-up music came out in some bizarre ways- bleary cell phone memos became real songs, conversations turned into lyrics, and new computer gizmos inspired wicked tangents,” said the members of Garbage. “Ghosts came in, had their say. Everyone brought ideas, and everyone fought their corner. At the end of the day it all gets shoved through the four-way brain filter that is Garbage and it ends up sounding like nobody else. Red feathers and black tar.”

Even though it’s been seven years, there hasn’t been a female-fronted band since that has matched Garbage’s inimitable sound, brashness and energy. Now free of all their corporate obligations, the band has been able to start again with a clean slate, on their own terms. They add, “We are making a record filled with the music we love to hear. The new songs have been inspired more by what we haven't been hearing rather than by what we have.”

After forming in Madison, Wisconsin, Garbage released their self-titled debut album in 1995 and pioneered a wave of visually arresting, female-fronted alternative rock bands. The album spawned the hit singles “Stupid Girl” and “Only Happy When It Rains” and was certified double platinum in the UK, the US and Australia. The band won the Breakthrough Artist Award at the 1996 MTV Europe Music Awards. Their second album, Garbage 2.0, was released in 1998 and topped the charts in the UK. It was nominated for two Grammy Awards including Album of the Year and Best Rock Album. 2001’s Beautiful Garbage was named one of Rolling Stone Magazine’s Top 10 Albums Of The Year. In 2005, Garbage released Bleed Like Me, earning the band it’s highest chart position in America with a No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart. In 2007, the band released a retrospective collection called Absolute Garbage. Garbage have sold over 12 million albums worldwide.

Garbage are Shirley Manson (vocals, guitar), Steve Marker (guitars, keyboards), Duke Erikson (guitars, keyboards) and Butch Vig (drums, loops).

Singer-songwriter Jessie J has revealed that she's keen to shave off her trademark black bob for charity and insisted that it "will grow back".

Speaking to the BBC's Newsbeat, the 'Price Tag' hitmaker explained that she wants to use her celebrity to raise a million pounds for good causes each year and wants to show her support for those in need by chopping off her hair:

"I'm so ready for it. Bic it, powder it, who cares? My hair will grow back. There are times when I wish I could have done marathons, but with my heart problem I couldn't - but there are things I can do to raise money. There are a lot of celebrities who would say 'I'd shave my hair' but they wouldn't."

"My bob has become too much of a thing - and I want to get rid of that. I want to just make money and think it's going to be an amazing way to do it. I'm going to do it on live TV and pick five charities that mean something to me."

Although she hasn't yet set a time or date in stone, Jessie J is determined to keep her word and added, "I'm going to do something every year - raise a million every year and do something people wouldn't expect me to do."

The Black Eyed Peas and Sting Raise More Than $7 Million

NEW YORK, Oct. 3, 2011 -- New Yorkers joined together over the weekend to help millions of their less fortunate neighbors. Robin Hood – New York's largest private poverty-fighter -- announced today that combined VIP tickets sales and donations made via texts from Friday night's Black Eyed Peas concert in Central Park, donations on robinhood.org as well as ticket proceeds from Sting's 25th anniversary/60th birthday concert at the Beacon Theatre on Saturday night, raised more than$7 million to fight poverty in New York City. These funds will be earmarked to support food pantries, homeless shelters, health clinics and will provide jobs training for New Yorkers in need throughout the five boroughs.

"This was an amazing weekend of music, and it's incredibly gratifying to see New Yorkers come together during difficult times to help their neighbors in need," said David Saltzman, executive director of Robin Hood. "The Black Eyed Peas and Sting have a long history of giving back to their communities and we're truly honored that they've chosen to help the 1.8 million New Yorkers living in poverty through Robin Hood; we hope to do them proud."

Because Robin Hood's board of directors covers all administrative and fundraising costs, 100% of every dollar raised goes to helping individuals and families in need.

On September 30, The Black Eyed Peas performed the largest charity concert ever held on the Great Lawn, with 60,000 in Central Park and thousands more watching live via web stream. Concert-goers participated in a variety of digital media efforts throughout -- including "text-to-donate", instagram, group-me and Twitter – to enter contests and enhance the sense of community and their enjoyment of the show. The "Concert 4 NYC" was presented by Chase, and was supported by Clear Channel's Elvis Duran and the Z100 Morning Show, Eventbrite and Calvin Klein Collection.

As part of the partnership with The Black Eyed Peas, Robin Hood will fund the opening of three Peapod Academies in New York City over the coming years, which will support disadvantaged youth by providing music and artistic education, such as music engineering, sound mixing and video editing, among other opportunities.

The following night -- on October 1 -- Sting generously donated proceeds from his all-star 25th anniversary/60th birthday concert at the Beacon Theatre to Robin Hood. Highlights of the show included incredible performances by Lady Gaga, Bruce Springsteen, will.i.am, Mary J. Blige, Stevie Wonder, Rufus Wainwright, and Billy Joel, among many others. In thanks for his many good works, prior to the show's kick-off, Mr. Saltzman presented Sting with a plaque naming the music room in the Robin Hood-funded KIPP NYC College Prep High School in his honor. The school is currently under construction in the South Bronxand due to be completed in late 2013.
