The dates that have been revealed so far include South America, the UK and Ireland, and member Niall Horan took to his official Twitter page this afternoon to reassure fans that these won't be the only countries they visit on the impressive jaunt:

"Everyone as happy as we are? I'm buzzin'! #wherewearetour2014. For us this is absolutely crazy! We are soo excited! Every night is just gonna be amazing! Your support is incredible you have done this. Keep you're eyes peeled! Please don't be disappointed if your country wasn't announced! We will be announcing more over the year!"

Heartthrob Harry Styles also shared his excitement at the news and added that more shows will be planned around the globe over the coming months: "We cannot believe we're announcing a tour in 2014. Latin America, UK, Ireland.. Rest of the world, keep your ears open."

The news was revealed this afternoon (May 16) in London after a week of teasing a 'big announcement'.

The lads will hit South America and the UK and Ireland in 2014 as part of the Where We Are tour.

The jaunt is due to take place next spring and summer, with a concert at Dublin's Croke Park on May 25 and a show at London's Wembley Stadium on June 7 planned.

There will also be UK dates at Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium, Manchester's Etihad Stadium and the Stadium of Light in Sunderland.

One Direction confirmed that more dates are due to be announced in the near future.

Tickets for the concerts will go on sale from May 25 at 10am UK time. The tour so far is as follows:

Tuesday 14th May – John Mayer has recently announced that he will be touring for the first time in nearly 3 years. After an extended break from singing due to vocal problems John is finally back on the road to tour his acclaimed album ‘Born and Raised’. As part of his world tour the Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and musician has today confirmed that he will grace the UK with a performance at the O2 Arena in London on Sunday 20th October and now an additional performance at Wembley Arena on Saturday 26th October.
