The US group split in 2011 after an illustrious career but there has been speculation that the trio might reconvene soon.

However, Bassist Mike Mills told Rolling Stone that there is no plans afoot to reunite.

The musician did say though that you can't predict the future - leaving the door ajar for a reunion in the future. Speaking of their decision to split, he said:

"There were no real factors other than deciding it was time to break up. There's no drug abuse. There's no in-fighting. There's no legal problems. It was time to break up. That's never really been done before."

Mills added: "The idea of breaking up and not reforming for a reunion tour is kind of attractive to us. I doubt you'll see us touring as REM again. On the other hand, I just played with Peter [Buck, guitarist] in New York City the other night, so fun things do happen. Absolutely nobody can predict the future. But right now, there are zero plans for an REM reunion. Absolutely zero. But the future is a strange place. We could all be hit by a meteor tomorrow, but I would consider it highly unlikely."

REM's last album meanwhile came in the form of 2011's 'Collapse Into Now'.

Tuesday 14th May – John Mayer has recently announced that he will be touring for the first time in nearly 3 years. After an extended break from singing due to vocal problems John is finally back on the road to tour his acclaimed album ‘Born and Raised’. As part of his world tour the Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and musician has today confirmed that he will grace the UK with a performance at the O2 Arena in London on Sunday 20th October and now an additional performance at Wembley Arena on Saturday 26th October. During an interview with the Rolling Stone, the 'Die Young' beauty opened up about the illicit snapshot and confessed that while she doesn't even know if it's her in the picture, because she can't remember the incident, she was very troubled by it and almost took drastic measures:

"I'd never even thought of suicide before that. Would I ever resort to that? No."

"But I went three days without sleeping and I was hallucinating from lack of sleep, so my doctor put me on anti-anxiety medicine. It's still a daily struggle."

"I call my manager every morning and say, 'Is there anything negative about me in the news today?' I don't even know if that's me in the photo. I don't remember that situation... Not with blue eye shadow on! C'mon, I'm not a stripper!"

The View – completed by guitarist Pete Reilly and drummer Steven Morrison – recently completed their first full North American coast-to-coast tour which included a sold-out show at New York’s Bowdery Ballroom, a date at famous Los Angeles venue The Troubadour and a set at SXSW. In addition to the Stone Roses show, The View’s summer touring plans encompass two intimate homecoming shows at Dundee’s 20 Rocks venue (May 9th and 10th), a headline set at the Mighty Boof At The Playground festival (May 17th) and a return to T in the Park in July.

Formed in Dundee in 2005 by four former school friends, The View have hit the charts with all four of their albums – ‘Hats Off To The Buskers’ (#1), ‘Which Bitch?’ (#3), ‘Bread and Circuses’ (#14) and ‘Cheeky For A Reason’ (#9) – accumulated over 3.5 million views at YouTube and have excelled at numerous major festivals such as Glastonbury, Reading, Leeds, T in the Park and One Big Weekend. The US rock group are due to play the iconic event on Saturday June 15 as they hit the main stage.

The news follows the previous announcement of Bon Jovi and The Stone Roses as the festival's other headliners.

Speaking about the new addition, Isle of Wight Festival promoter John Giddings said:

"We are proud to bring one of the world's greatest rock bands of the last decade to our small island off the South Coast of England…thanks for coming - it will be a weekend to remember!"

The date is the latest big gig to be added to The Killers' 2013 schedule, which already sees the group playing at Scotland's T in the Park and London's Wembley Stadium in June and July.

The band, however, recently axed a number of shows in the US and Canada after a bout of laryngitis.

The American veterans will top the bill at the iconic festival on Sunday June 16.

It will be their only UK festival show of 2013 and the band said that they are "honoured" to headline the main stage. Jon Bon Jovi said:

"The Isle of Wight Festival is legendary and we're excited to join in the long tradition of Rock 'n' Roll history. We are honoured to be the headliners on the Main Stage Sunday night. This will mark our first visit to the island and I expect it will prove to be a highlight of our tour and of 2013."

The announcement follows news that The Stone Roses will also headline a day at the festival.

Isle of Wight promoter John Giddings meanwhile commented: "When you talk about the soundtrack of our lives, the Stone Roses are embedded in it. I am so proud to get them to our island - they will kick the weekend off with a bang."

Tickets for next year's festival will go on sale on November 28, with Vodafone customers eligible for an exclusive pre-sale.

The band meanwhile previously announced dates in London on June 7 and 8, with another show planned for Glasgow on June 15.

The reformed Manchester act announced in 2011 that they were reuniting after a number of years apart for a batch of live shows in 2012, including some massive concerts at England's Heaton Park.

They have now revealed three UK shows due to take place in June next year in London and Glasgow.

They will play London's Finsbury Park on June 7 and 8 and Glasgow Green on June 15, with Primal Scream, Jake Bugg and The View due to support at the latter.

The Glasgow show will come almost 23 years to the day that the group played the same venue in what is often described as one of their best live performances.

Tickets for the events will go on sale at 9.30am UK time on November 2.

As previously reported, Allen was sent a reported offensive tweet from a solider recently on the social networking website, with the Army later confirming that they were investigating the incident.

The tweet said: "Just seen you bought s*** I mean adopted a child from Africa."

However, Allen has received a lot of abuse since the incident from people who believe the user in question isn't racist. Today (July 12) Allen tweeted:

"Ok I'm leaving twitter for a few days,hmmmm maybe hours, we'll see. The stupidity of some people on here is astounding."

The aunt of the soldier meanwhile told The Sun that her nephew isn't racist. She said:

"There is not a racist bone in his body. It has been taken the wrong way, there should have been a comma to make it clearer. There is nothing you could say about him, he is such a lovely person. No way was it meant in a racist way."

The 23-year-old’s follow-up to ‘F.A.M.E.’ comfortably outsold Maroon 5’s ‘Overexposed,’ which had to settle for the runner-up position for the second week in a row.

Last week’s number one, Linkin Park’s ‘Living Things,’ fell to No.3, Ed Sheeran’s ‘+’ dropped to No.4 while Emeli Sande’s ‘Our Version Of Events’ climbed to No.5.

Elsewhere there were new entries for Mary Chapin Carpenter’s ‘Ashes and Roses’ and The King Blues’ ‘Long Live The Struggle,’ while there were big climbs for The Stone Roses’ ‘The Very Best Of,’ fun’s ‘Some Nights’ and Katy Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream.’
