Jamie Cullum appears on Later... / Record Store Day release

JAMIE CULLUM appears on 'Later... with Jools Holland'+ to release limited edition 7” for Record Store Day

New album Momentum out May 20th

Last night Jamie Cullum appeared on BBC's 'Later... with Jools Holland' for the very first time in his career! He performed 'Save Your Soul' taken from new album 'Momentum' at the newly relocated studios in Maidstone, Kent. View the performance on below. The full show will be aired this Friday and shall also see Jamie play new single 'Everything You Didn't Do'.

Jamie will release ‘Love For $ale’ as a limited edition 7” to celebrate Record Store Day on April 20th. The track is a cover of Cole Porter’s classic featuring Jamie on piano and vocals and legendary British rapper Roots Manuva on rap vocals, set over the bass line to 'Witness The Fitness'. On supporting Record Store Day Jamie said,

"Despite the shrinking interest in physically owning music the survival of independent record stores is crucial if we are to continue to have one of the most exciting and diverse music industries in the world. A great independent record store is an authoritative curator in an endless sea of sounds; it should be like your cool and interesting best friend who is always showing the way to new worlds. Without them we'd all be much more boring. "

See the video below.

Multi-million selling Cullum releases his new album ‘Momentum’ through Island Records on May 20th. The album is bursting with ideas and inspirations drawn from an eventful couple of years. Jamie approached this record in a completely different way to his usual process, for the first time using DIY home demos as a blueprint for the majority of the tracks and using his iPhone on the move to lay down basic song production; some of which made the final cut!

The album was produced in part by Jim Abbiss (Artic Monkeys, Adele) and Dan The Automator (Kasabian, DJ Shadow). The first official single to come from ‘Momentum’, titled ‘Everything You Didn’t Do’, will be released on May 12th.

Shakira thanks fans for World Baby Shower support

UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Shakira and FC Barcelona soccer star Gerard Piqué today thanked hundreds of thousands of fans for taking part in their interactive World Baby Shower and buying life-saving items for vulnerable children in support of UNICEF’s work around the world.

"We are thrilled by the generosity that has been shown by the visitors to our World Baby Shower site,” said Shakira, who in January gave birth to the couple's first child, Milan.

“Thanks to you, over 80,000 children will be protected from polio, almost 200,000 oral rehydration salts sachets will be distributed in times of need, the 3.8 tons of therapeutic food collected will save many children from severe acute malnutrition, among other life-saving tools that were purchased to protect babies and children."

Polio is a highly contagious and potentially deadly disease that often leaves children crippled, while the oral rehydration salts are a simple cost-effective way to treat diarrhoea, the second leading cause of death in children aged under five.

When Shakira and Gerard became new parents last month they shared the moment by using innovative social media tools to host an online baby shower with UNICEF from 16 January to 15 February. This unique event engaged fans by welcoming them into the virtual living room of Shakira and Gerard. There, guests learned about the many challenges around child survival and were able to purchase ‘Inspired Gifts’ to help give babies around the world a healthy start to life.

“This virtual baby shower has been truly innovative and was only possible in a digital world where fans could not just follow but become a real part of the couple’s philanthropic initiative,” said Sarah Crowe, UNICEF Spokesperson for the Executive Director. “We are indeed grateful for the generosity – in spirit and in kind – of Shakira and Gerard and their fans.”

The many fans who visited the site also bought over 1,000 insecticide-treated mosquito nets to protect children from malaria. Every 60 seconds, a child in Africa dies from malaria. The bed nets work by creating a protective barrier against deadly malaria-carrying mosquitoes that bite at night and can greatly reduce malaria transmissions.

In addition, the generous donations included the purchase of over 150 portable scales to weigh babies and toddlers to help early detection of malnutrition and illness. One of the best ways to make sure malnutrition and illness are diagnosed early in very young children is to monitor their weight. The earlier the diagnosis the better chance the child has of survival.

UNICEF will now begin to distribute these real, life-saving and life-changing items to children and communities in some of the poorest corners of the globe.

18 million selling artist HERBERT GRONEMEYER releases I WALK featuring U2's BONO, Antony Hegarty and James Dean Bradfield

NEW YORK, Feb. 21, 2013 German superstar, Herbert Gronemeyer makes his US debut on Tuesday, February 26th with the release of I WALK .

This 13 song album, features for the first time in English, some of the most impressive songs from the award winning songwriter's vast catalog alongside two new songs. With lead-off track, "Mensch," Gronemeyer is joined on vocals by U2's Bono, one of the special guests on the record, along with Antony Hegarty of Antony and The Johnsons on the dramatic "Will I Ever Learn" and guitarist James Dean Bradfield of the Manic Street Preachers on "To The Sea."

I WALK is a touching and passionate collection of songs about love, loss and survival. In a recent UK Telegraph feature Bono explained "There's always more to Herbert's songs than you first hear, 'Mensch' is a really profound song about the coldness and steeliness that friendship and love sometimes need to survive, a most unromantic paean to romance. That stuff appeals to me."

The paper went on to say "Gronemeyer is a singer-songwriter of the highest order, a deep lyricist and richly melodic composer with a gruff, grown-up voice and vigorous stage presence, whose thoughtful songs deal with the real stuff of life" while veteran Jools Holland calls him "an incredibly talented musician and songwriter".

Alongside the new album release, Gronemeyer will be making two US appearances: February 23 at The Chicago Theatre in Chicago and February 26th at Irving Plaza in New York City. A full US tour will begin in September 2013. He also makes his first US public television special with Herbert Gronemeyer : I Walk. Taped at Postdam in Germany, and featuring Bono as a guest star, Gronemeyer combines his own original songs with some of his favorite classics in a one-hour concert that airs across the US through June 2013.

Although this is Herbert's US debut, Americans may recognize him from his role as Lt. Werner in the movie Das Boot. He has also graced the cover of Time Magazine as a "European Hero" who was changing the world with his ongoing humanitarian work and has an impressive and extensive composition and performance background including the 2004 Athens Olympics theme song "Everlasting", the 2006 FIFA World Cup theme song "Celebrate The Day" as well as the soundtrack and film score for Anton Corbijn's "The American" starringGeorge Clooney . He's currently working on the music for Anton Corbijn's new movie, John LeCarre's "A Most Wanted Man" and he has a small role in it – starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rachel McAdams, Nina Hoss, Robin Wright and Willem Dafoe .

London 2012 officials refuse to comment on closing gig rumours and self-confirmations

Officials for the London 2012 Olympic Games have reaffirmed that they want to keep the line-up for the upcoming closing ceremony to remain a secret.

A number of rumours and self-confirmations have been made public in the past few days as speculation grows ahead of the ceremony on Sunday (August 12).

The likes of One Direction have constantly been linked with performing at the event, with fresh tabloid reports this morning (August 9) suggesting that is a done deal.

George Michael and Muse meanwhile are two acts who have publicly stated that they will be performing at the Olympic Stadium event, which is expected to have a TV audience of up to 900m.

A spokesman for the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games however refused to confirm yesterday (August 8) any acts for the ceremony, stating that they want the line-up to be kept secret. They said:

"We want to keep everything a secret, as with the opening ceremony. There's been rumours bandied about, particularly in the last 48 hours."

Muse confirm Olympic closing ceremony performance

Muse have become the latest act to announce that they will be playing the Olympic Games closing ceremony.

London 2012's opening ceremony took place on July 27 and its high jinx grandeur has made tongues wag over who might be playing the closing ceremony on August 12.

George Michael revealed that he has been rehearsing for the Olympic Stadium closing ceremony, whilst Ed Sheeran has also talked about performing - although reports he will duet with Pink Floyd were shot down by the band.

Muse, whose track 'Survival' has been used as the official London 2012 song, have confirmed that they will be playing the closing ceremony. Speaking about 'Survival', drummer Dom Howard said:

"I'm happy with the song. It's a proper Muse song. It's not something we did for the Olympics. They sowed a seed by asking us to do some music but then five months went by. We showed them a few songs when they asked us about [playing the] closing ceremony and they loved it. It represented the enormous competition of what the Olympics is."

'Survival' meanwhile is set to feature on Muse's new studio album 'The 2nd Law', which is due to be released on October 1 in the UK and October 2 in the US.

Muse nearly recorded Olympic duet with Elton John

Muse have revealed that they nearly wrote an Olympic song with Elton John.

The band released the track 'Survival' in June as the official London 2012 song, but Muse frontman Matt Bellamy has admitted that it could have been a whole lot different.

He revealed that Elton John was originally the "director of music" for this summer's Games and wanted to duet with Muse for the Olympic song.

However, Bellamy said that John ultimately clashed with the organisers, meaning Muse had to go it alone. He said:

"Believe it or not, Elton John gave us a call and wanted to write a song for the Olympics. At one time Elton John was actually the director of the music for the Olympics. He contacted us and we thought, 'This is far out! We're going to do a song for the Olympics with Elton John?!'."

He continued: "So that's how the ball started rolling way back over a year ago. But then he pulled out of the Olympics. He didn't want to be involved anymore cause he fell out with the organisers so that left us with a half-baked idea. At that point we just let it go and carried on with making the album."

Muse's Olympic track 'Survival' will feature on the band's upcoming new studio album 'The 2nd Law', which is due to be released in October.
