A woman named Kylee Francescan discovered the collection of letters, which turned out to all be hand-written fan mail from devoted admirers, in a bin at an elementary school in the area and reported the box to Swift's label, Big Machine.

The 'I Knew You Were Trouble' singer's label then issued a statement about the incident, in which a spokesperson explained that Swift loves receiving mail from people who look up to her and they're unsure how the letters ended up in the trash:

"Taylor gets thousands of fan letters every day and they are delivered to her management office. After the letters are opened and read, they are recycled. The only explanation for the letters being unopened would be that a small batch of mail that was supposed to be delivered to Taylor was accidentally put with letters headed for the recycling center."

The singer is releasing the track '22' as the next single from her 2012 record 'Red', following on from past hits such as 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together'.

The country-pop star is due to release the video via the Good Morning America website at 8.30am US Eastern Time before unleashing it via her official channels.

The singer turned heads at the time of filming the video by appearing to mock former fling Harry Styles.

Swift was pictured wearing a beanie hat - a piece of dress strongly associated with the One Direction singer.

The singer-songwriter's hit track 'The A Team' was nominated for the Song of the Year gong at the February ceremony, but he ultimately lost out to fun.'s 'We Are Young'.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Sheeran revealed that the mother of collaborator and friend Taylor Swift softened the blow somewhat by giving him a wooden gift. He said:

"She gave me a natural gramophone made out of wood. It had no wires or anything, just a little slot where you put your iPhone."

Sheeran continued: "She gave it to me because I hadn't won the Grammy. She is lovely. She got me a scented candle as well."

The British star and Swift meanwhile were recently been romantically linked together, but the country-pop singer confirmed that they're just friends.

The pair, who have collaborated in the past, are often linked together - but it seems their relationship is purely a professional one.

Speaking to We Love Pop, Swift revealed that their conversations usually end up discussing music and life questions - not romance. She said:

"We mostly just text: 'Hey pal! Miss you dude!' And it somehow ends up turning into a conversation about the meaning of life and music."

The 'Red' star meanwhile recently revealed a somewhat surprising desire to collaborate with US rapper Eminem.

However, any potential team-up would see Swift sing a chorus and not rap.

The country-pop star revealed her affection for hip-hop to InStyle magazine, but assured fans that this wouldn't take her in a new sonic direction at the moment.

Swift said: "I love hip-hop so much. There's something so honest about it."

Asked if she would be willing to collaborate with Eminem, the 'I Knew You Were Trouble' hitmaker added: "Nobody wants to hear me rap, but I'd sing a chorus for someone for sure. I would sign up for that in a heartbeat."

Swift recently admitted that she started writing songs because she didn't have anyone to talk to, saying: "As sad as that sounds, I was going through this really hard time at school where I didn't have any friends. Songwriting for me just started out as therapy."

The singer also said that one of her greatest "fears" is ending up lonely: "My fears circle around me making the wrong choices and messing this up for myself. I don’t want to end up being awful and intolerable. Alone."

Speaking to the new issue of InStyle magazine, the 'I Knew You Were Trouble' songstress explained that writing about her feelings became cathartic and helped with the loneliness she was feeling at the time:

"When you're dealing with something like loneliness or confusion or rejection or frustration, those emotions are so jumbled up in your head. For me, the only way to condense them down into one thing is to write and three and a half minute song about it."

Swift added that she went through a 'tough time' at school so setting her thoughts to music was her escape from that:

"I first started writing songs because I didn't really have anyone else to talk to. As sad as that sounds, I was going through this really hard time at school where I didn't have any friends. Songwriting for me just started out as therapy."

She added: “The typical Hollywood sad cliché of the poor lonely starlet with no one because she put up all these walls and didn’t trust anyone. That’s my fear. And that’s why I live my life the way I live my life because I’d so much rather feel everything than end up like that.”

The blonde beauty admits it's difficult to have male friends without speculation surrounding her love life.

She explained: “I’m a girls’ girl. I have guy friends, but the problem with having guy friends is, like, I always get linked to them and they’ll end up in a slideshow of people I’ve apparently dated on the internet. I mean, there’s all kinds of complicated things with having guys as friends. If they have a girlfriend who doesn’t like you or things like that. So I have like two or three guy friends. A select few. But I have like 20-25 really good girlfriends.”

During her new interview with Vanity Fair, the 'State of Grace' songstress explained that feminine empowerment is something she values so when she writes songs about breakups and is perceived in a negative way because of that, it's very sexist:

"I think that's taking something that potentially should be celebrated - a woman writing about her feelings in a confessional way - that's taking it and turning it and twisting it into something that is frankly a little sexist."

Referring to Couric, Swift added that they're both on the same page and think women should stand up for other women: "You know, Katie Couric is one of my favorite people because she said to me... 'There's a special place in hell for women who don't help other women.'"

The 'I Knew You Were Trouble' star has opened up about her much-speculated personal life in the latest edition of Vanity Fair, revealing: “If you want some big revelation, since 2010 I have dated exactly two people,” referring to Conor Kennedy and One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles.

Swift famously pens her hit songs based on her relationship experiences, but doesn't understand why she has acquired such a label.

She explained: “For a female to write about her feelings, and then be portrayed as some clingy, insane, desperate girlfriend in need of making you marry her and have kids with her, I think that’s taking something that potentially should be celebrated.

She added: “A woman writing about her feelings in a confessional way - that’s taking it and turning it and twisting it into something that is frankly a little sexist.”

Rumours were circulating at the time of dating Kennedy that Swift was looking at buying a house close to her beau.

The songstress chooses to ignore such tabloid reports, admitting: “If there’s a pregnancy rumour, people will find out it’s not true when you wind up not being pregnant, like nine months from now, and if there’s a house rumour, they’ll find out it’s not true when you are actively not ever spotted at that house.”

The source then explained that when they were in London together he “disappears one night and after that it was like he just didn’t want to keep going.”

Styles’s representative, Benny Tarantini, has claimed that Swift’s source’s claims are “undeniably false.”
