Manic Street Preachers Break Two-Year Hiatus for One-Off Exclusive Performance at Festival No.6

Festival No.6 is excited to announce that Welsh trio Manic Street Preachers have been persuaded to end their self-imposed two-year exile to headline one of the nights at this year’s event, which will be a UK festival exclusive.

The cover of their fifth studio album This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours was shot in 1998 on the beach at Portmeirion, North Wales – home of Festival No.6. This year’s festival falls on the 15thanniversary of the album’s release, all of which helped to convince the Manics to appear at what promises to be an astonishing homecoming.

Manic Street Preachers said: “Festival No.6 is the only thing that could break our self-enforced two year British gig ban. To be able to play in Sir Clough Williams-Ellis’ iconic village is something of a dream for us. See you in September.”

The musical bill at Festival No.6 - recently named Best New Festival at the UK Festival Awards and Best Small Festival at the NME Awards

- will again combine a blend of iconic acts alongside the freshest emerging talent and a stunning DJ line-up. Other live acts confirmed in the first wave of announcements for 2013 include James Blake, Everything Everything, I Am Kloot, AlunaGeorge, Laura Mvula, Mount Kimbie, Caitlin Rose, Chapel Club and Dutch Uncles.

A selection of the stellar DJ acts confirmed so far include Frankie Knuckles, Carl Craig, Andrew Weatherall, Gilles Peterson, Justin Robertson, Greg Wilson, Maxxi Soundsystem, Unabombers and Futureboogie.

Arts and culture is another integral part of Festival No.6, and this year’s line-up is even stronger. Guests include John Cooper Clarke, the punk poet who is now a national treasure, name-checked by everyone from Alex Turner to Plan B, plus Man Booker Prize winner DBC Pierre, award-winning novelist and Times columnist Caitlin Moran and author and Review Show critic Paul Morley.

Other highlights include talks and readings from Tracey Thorn (Everything but the Girl), John Niven (Kill Your Friends), Bob Stanley (Saint Etienne) and Michael Smith (The Culture Show) as well as the return of the wonderful Jan Morris, one of the highlights of last year’s No.6.

Festival co-founder Gareth Cooper said: “We’re delighted and very proud that we’ve managed to entice one of the biggest Welsh bands of all time to end their hiatus and play Festival No.6. There’s a wonderful synchronicity in the fact that this year’s event falls on the 15th anniversary of one of the Manics’s greatest albums This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours. The cover of that record was shot on the beach at Portmeirion, which makes it all the more special. We feel it’s important to maintain Welsh heritage within our line up and entertainment and there is no bigger way to do it than by booking this band!”

Last year’s event saw thousands of awestruck guests converge on the peaceful shores of the Welsh wonderland of Portmeirion, where the ocean, mountains and forests create the festival’s perimeter. The filming location of cult 60s TV show The Prisoner is a fantasyland of whimsical Italianate architecture overlooking the rolling estuary waters of the Irish Sea.

Such was the success of its inaugural year that Festival No.6 was named Best New Festival at the UK Festival Awards, whilst 2012 headliners New Order walked away with the prize for Best Headline Performance. More recently it was voted Best Small Festival in a public poll at the NME Awards.

Guests in 2013 can look forward to another year of outstanding musical acts, ethereal scenery, breathtaking architecture and enchanting distractions at a UK festival location like no other!

More artists, attractions, activities and VERY SPECIAL GUESTS to be announced soon!

These intimate gigs will consist of six sessions and feature acoustic performances from bands and artists chosen by La Blogotheque. The gigs will also be supported by local talent in each city discovered by the Nokia Music team, giving new bands a chance to let their music reach a wider audience.

Designed to capture the essence of Nokia’s free music streaming service, Nokia Music, the main aim of these sessions is to help people discover new music and talent they will love.

Featuring over 22 million tracks, Nokia Music easily caters for every taste, requires no registration or subscription and features no audio advertisements. The app is designed to encourage people to discover great new music and features over 150 playlists put together by a team of musicologists based in the UK.

La Blogotheque's ethos is that all artists perform acoustically in natural surroundings ensuring the session showcases their true talent. Christophe Abric, founder of La Blogotheque, said: “When Nokia proposed that we partner with them to bring our vision to the UK, we were in no doubt that it was a great opportunity; the UK is full of unbelievable—and often undiscovered—talent, and we would be happy to work with Nokia Music to bring the newest and best acts to the British public.”

The videos from the Lumia Live Sessions will be unlike anything that La Blogotheque has done before. They will build on Nokia’s heritage of combining music and light to bring to life the features of the Nokia Lumia smartphone at gigs and will use the unique features of each venue to illuminate the band and their surroundings.

Annie Kearney at Nokia UK, said: “The Blogotheque team are the perfect partner for Nokia Music. They have pioneered discovery of phenomenal talent for seven years now. Lianne La Havas performed for the blog in 2011 ahead of her Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize nomination and Alt-J filmed on the slopes of The Montmartre surrounded by tourists in July 2012 ahead of their Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize win. The Lumia Live Session’s tour will build on this legacy to shine a spotlight on the ‘ones to watch’ in 2013.”

DIMENSIONS FESTIVAL
6-9TH SEPTEMBER 2012
FORT PUNTA CHRISTO, PULA, CROATIA
www.dimensionsfestival.com <http://www.dimensionsfestival.com/>

Just when you thought the Dimensions Line-up couldn’t get any better, the team behind Europe’s most talked about festival announce some last minute additions! With just a couple of months to go until Dimensions brings Fort Punta Christo to life, these new acts complete the already outstanding roster of artists!

In recent years this act has gone from strength to strength and by the looks of things is only set for greatness in years to come. Originally from New York, Nicolas Jaar spent a few years growing up in Chile before retuning to his birthplace as a teenager. At the age 14 Jaar began making electronic music having been inspired by native Chilean music and the minimal sounds of Ricardo Villalobos. His unique take on music saw his first album reach critical acclaim and go on tour with a full band. Now regarded by many as one of the one of the best up and coming minds in electronic music, Nicolas Jaar joins the Dimensions line-up.

Set on the picturesque Adriatic coast, Dimensions hijacks the Fort at Punta Christo. Making use of the beautiful surroundings with an intimate capacity, Dimensions creates the perfect place to enjoy the deeper end of the electronic spectrum through some of the best sound systems in Europe.

The 808 is a sound synonymous with House and Techno, this producer from the west country has found a way to twist the 808 into something very new. Fusing elements from Dubstep with the Chicago Juke scene, Addison Groove has become known for his high energy, percussion fuelled performances with Rap inspired vocal loops. Joining the duke of Juke is a French DJ with leagues of experience. Jean Marie K made his name on FG DJ Radio, a station popular throughout the suburbs of Paris and is known best for it’s electronic music programming.

New to the scene and already picked up by London based label Swamp 81, this duo have caught the attention of many and are certainly on the rise. Dusky have had a very recent rise to fame and with their booking schedule taking them to Ibiza this year, Dimensions are happy to welcome this new talent to the fort. Another great last minute addition is Serbian DJ, Marko Nastic, whose radio shows are broadcast across the globe and has played at some of Eastern Europe’s largest festivals.

Many of you have probably been wondering when the last boat party is going to be announced. Today we can confirm that the infamous Boat 4 will be at the helm of 20:20 Vision. This well known Leeds based label have been running sell out parties and releasing cutting edge music for over 10 years now. On their boat expect to see Huxley along side 20:20 DJ, Danny Raper starboard bound with the other Dimensions boat parties. All aboard!

Boasting a cutting-edge line-up and intimate setting, Dimensions has quickly become one of the most anticipated events of the summer amongst dedicated underground music lovers. With tickets flying out of the fort, those that enjoy the soulful, deeper end of music are advised to jump on this opportunity.
