The singer is one of the few members of the group who have a girlfriend, with the 20-year-old in a relationship with Eleanor Calder.

Speaking to The Sun, Tomlinson admitted that when he joined the band he tried to reassure Calder's mother that he was a "good lad" and that he wouldn't cheat on her daughter. He said:

"I was worried about my reputation at first. I remember I sent Eleanor's mum a few text messages saying, 'Please don't judge me thinking I'm like the stereotypical boyband type who is going to go around and sleep with everything that moves'. I was trying to convince her I'm quite a good lad but I didn't really need to."

The 'One Thing' star said: "Her family are really cool actually and very understanding of the situation. It's important for me to treat a girlfriend with respect. My mum would be horrified if I behaved any differently - and I have sisters, and would hate for them to be treated badly by guys."

The global phenomenon are releasing their second album 'Take Me Home' on November 12 and they have already preceded the record with the single 'Live While We're Young'.

The track will be the first song on the album and it will be followed by 'Kiss You'.

'Take Me Home' features 13 songs whilst the Deluxe/Yearbook version will have an extra four tracks.

The singer has had his world turned upside down since appearing on the 2010 series of the X Factor as he morphed from an unknown amateur into a global star.

He has embarked on a number of tours to countries such as North America and Australia and he told The Sun that he finds it difficult being away from home. Malik said:

"It's been really hard. Last weekend was the first time in six months that I'd been home."

The 'One Thing' star added: "It's pretty strange because you have images of people in your head when you left, then you just think they're going to be the same when you come back, like time freezes. I have sisters and from the ages of 11 to 13 - it's a big change for girls."

As previously reported, Williams recently clarified reports that he disliked the British pop group and said he was actually jealous that he wasn't part of the group as they become global icons.

One Direction were told about the Take That man's thoughts by Capital FM and said, perhaps with tongue slightly in cheek, that Williams can join them whenever he wants. Liam Payne said:

"That is amazing. We are actually massive fans of Robbie Williams. And after singing on the show with him and stuff."

Louis Tomlinson said: "He can join us anytime. [The] invitation is there."

Zayn Malik meanwhile chimed in: "He can join whenever he wants - he knows that. It's cool."

The boyband released their successful debut DVD 'Up All Night: The Live Tour' earlier this year, which documented their life on the road.

Speaking to 4Music at the iTunes Festival last night (September 20), One Direction revealed that they are currently being filmed.

The quintet were asked about rumours of a One Direction film, with the lads appearing to be unsure what to say.

Harry Styles however piped up, saying: "We're taking a camera crew with us at the moment and filming everything that we're doing. So we don't know, we're going to have loads of footage."

The band meanwhile also spoke about which songs they like to sing in the shower, with Niall Horan choosing Bruno Mars' 'Lazy Song' and Liam Payne raising some eyebrows with his choice of 'Climax' by Usher.

Williams, who has boyband roots with Take That, told BBC Radio 1 that misleading stories had emerged in the past that said he wasn't keen on One Direction.

However, he has now cleared up any confusion and actually said he is sad that he is not out there reliving his boyband glory with them. The 'Candy' star said:

"I'm jealous of them and I wish I was doing it all with them. I've met all the boys, but it was a long time ago. I am quoted as saying, 'Robbie Williams slammed One Direction. Robbie Williams had a go at One Direction'. I really didn't - I love the boys."

He added: "I'm looking forward to seeing where the road takes them for many years to come I hope. They do perform like they've never met each other and there's a certain charm to that too. It's brilliant."

Bieber came out top in Billboard's annual 21 Under 21 list, which is compiled to find the biggest hitting acts aged under 21.

One Direction meanwhile came in second place, despite their growing reputation as the biggest band on the planet.

In third place on the list is singer and new X Factor USA judge Demi Lovato, with American Idol's Scotty McCreery and rapper Mac Miller completing the top five.

Other notable names on the list include X Factor UK graduate Cher Lloyd, who is placed at No.8, whilst Miley Cyrus ranks at No.18.

The ceremony is due to take place on November 11 in Frankfurt but the group were left empty handed when it came to nominations.

The likes of Rihanna and Taylor Swift instead were put up for numerous awards, with fellow UK based boyband One Direction landing three nominations.

Taking to Twitter yesterday (September 18), Tom Parker said:

"I think it's bullsh*t that we weren't nominated for an EMA this year!!! @mtvema."

He concluded: "Maybe next year x."

The Wanted were nominated for the Best Newcomer category at this year's MTV VMAs in early September but were ultimately trumped by One Direction.

Greg Horan told the Irish Sun that he’d give the thumbs-up to any potential romance between the boyband star and the 'California Gurls' singer, who briefly kissed at Thursday’s MTV Video Music Awards and continued to flirt on Twitter after the ceremony:

“I wouldn’t mind if he went out with her at all — I don’t care when people talk about age differences and all that.

“Niall wouldn’t be where he is today without Katy really — she put him through on X Factor and has been a great support to him. I know she’s proud of him and they are good friends.”

Greg also added that Niall’s family are thrilled that One Direction managed to pick up three awards at Thursday night's event:

“My mother and father were both talking to him and I texted him just to say how proud I am.”

The annual event took place last night (September 6), with One Direction taking most of the headlines with three award wins.

Lady Gaga was watching from afar but spoke about the ceremony on Twitter, taking time to praise Rihanna's live show. She said:

"What a lovely performance by @Rihanna! I feel like I'm sixteen again watching the VMAS, and then i remember i get to do this too. #socrazy."

Gaga later added: "What a lovely night, we found love 4 the win! Was all sorts of awesome watching this at home like i did when i was a kid. SWIFTY IS SO CUTE."

The 'Born The Way' singer then directly tweeted Miley Cyrus, who attended the show, saying:

"U out-dressed+styled everyone last night. If anyone gives you sh*t about that haircut pay no mind. u look like Brigitte Nielson. although i did not think you needed those earrings, SHOW THAT FAB NECK. #GiveThemFACE."
