Gareth Davies co-founded  Beer Davies, a Publicity and PR Company based in Birmingham, in 1980. His first client was Cherry Red Records, with whom he worked for 15 years; the first band he publicised was The Dead Kennedys who were soon followed by The Smiths, The Soft Boys, The Cramps, Thomas Dolby, The The, Yazoo, The Monochrome Set, Ben Watt, Tracy Thorn, Thomas Leer, Paul Haig, Felt, The Long Ryders, Green On Red, Thin White Rope, Red Box, The Anti Nowhere League and Sniff ‘n’ The Tears.

James Chapple Gill joined Beer Davies and the company immediately started to concentrate on National Radio and TV promotion.

Gareth and James, along with all the music-related clients, left Beer Davies to set up totally independently as CHAPPLE DAVIES on 1st January 1999. Six months later they were joined by James Donaldson from Flemming Connolly and then Kieron Moyles.
