[July 16, 2021] Today, New Zealand favorite Drax Project give track "Catching Feelings" a fresh take with a brand new version featuring friends and labelmates Phony Ppl - listen below.

‘Catching Feelings’ by Drax Project & SIX60 is the 100 Million plus streams single that has slowly and subtly been making waves since its debut in September, 2019. With over 30M+ US Spotify streams and over 200K US equivalents with ZERO US airplay, Brooklyn based Phony Ppl jumped on the chance to reinvigorate the record. Bringing palpable energy to an already snappy track, "Catching Feelings" is vamped up with infectious harmonies, relatable lyricism and wistful, hypnotic vocals. Drax Project is performing the single, along with countless others, around New Zealand this summer as they play arenas. Additionally, the band was selected as a Fender Next Artist for 2021 and are gearing up for a tops-down, song of the summer this August.

As one of the most watched groups to have ever come out of New Zealand, 4-piece busker band turned stadium filling pop group Drax Project are leading the charge in the surging wave of talent emerging from the country. They have since been among some of the few very fortunate artists in the world to play to packed audiences once again, thanks to the country's zero-covid status.

Drax Project have performed at every SIX60 Saturdays concert, with the two bands combining to perform their multi platinum hit 'Catching Feelings'. The two-month long tour put on six shows, taking on new cities across Aotearoa. The quartet, alongside friends SIX60, performed the world's first stadium show since the pandemic and didn't stop there... The musicians filled the esteemed Eden Park (50k capacity) for the first ever concert at the stadium, also the largest music event held anywhere in the world since the outbreak of the pandemic. They also took the stage at the iconic Wellington Stadium (30k capacity). The venue has hosted the likes of David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Gunz n Roses and Eminem and this was the first time it has been headlined by New Zealand artists.

About

About Drax Project:

While studying jazz at college in Wellington, New Zealand, Drax Project—Shaan Singh [vocals, saxophone], Matt Beachen [drums], Sam Thomson [bass], and Ben O’Leary [guitar]—took what they learned in class and applied it to another pursuit, making pop their own. The group gained a following after re-working vocal hooks of famous pop songs into saxophone licks. Their cover of Kimbra's track, "Goldmine", went viral and caught the attention of an influential producer, giving acclaim to the newly-introduced group . Signing to 300 Entertainment stateside as single “Woke Up Late” took off everywhere, they accompanied Famous Dex on the standout single “LIGHT” from his chart-topping 2018 debut, Dex Meet Dexter, which bowed at #12 on the Billboard Top 200. As Drax Project continued to make their imprint in the US music scene, they gave hit single “Woke Up Late” a fresh take with a feature from Hailee Steinfeld. As the single climbed to the top of the radio charts, they released a music video featuring YouTube sensation, Liza Koshy. The video took off everywhere reaching 1 million views in a mere 24 hours. Drax Project added to the momentum with the release of “All This Time,” an eclectic anthem with elements of jazz and pop blended perfectly with a saxophone beat. As both the track and video made waves, the guys took to the stage, performing alongside Christina Aguilera on the European leg of The X Tour as well as standout performances at Rolling Stone's Coachella party and the Good Day LA stage. Singles off the self-titled debut (300/Universal) album have collected over 350 million streams worldwide and 18 Platinum certifications to date. An unstoppable musical force, the guys of Drax Project are pushing pop to new heights.

About Phony Ppl:

The fearless five-man band Phony Ppl has a sound that’s been nurtured over generations in Brooklyn. As life long friends, the quintet has reached their final form with five original members, Elbee Thrie (vocals), Aja Grant (keyboard), Matt Byas (drums), Elijah Rawk (guitar) and Bari Bass (bass). Breaking boundaries with a mix of soul, R&B, funk, pop and everything in between, it was their debut album Yesterday’s Tomorrow that introduced the world to their genre-less flavors. Unleashing another genre-defying sophomore album, mō’zā-ik via 300 Entertainment, Phony Ppl quickly moved from the group you needed to know, to the group you couldn't miss. Blending soul, funk, R&B and more, each song on the 11-track set plays as an extended jam between five musicians playing at their peak. NPR called it a “stepping stone for the Brooklyn band as a subconscious vacation for the listener while moving through the world… or maybe even a retreat from it.” The collection has also made fans at Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Complex and NYLON, who called it “ethereal as hell.” Recorded over four years in various locations including the band’s own home studios, mō’zā-ik was self-produced by the quintet and was mixed by GRAMMY Award winner Qmillion. The album features everything that fans have come to love from the band - jazz breakdowns, funky bossa nova, saxophone solos and a palette of playful songwriting, building a niche of their own in an often crowded scene.
