Jared Leto has landed the part of Joker in a new DC Comics film.

The 30 Seconds to Mars singer and Oscar winning actor will feature in upcoming movie Suicide Squad.

The flick, which sees a number of super villains brought together by the government, is scheduled to be released on August 5, 2016.

Other stars due to feature include Will Smith in the role of Deadshot, Tom Hardy as Rick Flag and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.

Cara Delevingne will play Enchantress and Jai Courtney is lined up to act as Boomerang.

Leto meanwhile won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar earlier this year for his role in Dallas Buyers Club.
