Jared Leto planned to turn down transvestite movie role

30 Seconds To Mars frontman and Hollywood actor Jared Leto has admitted that when he was originally approached to star in 'Dallas Buyers Club' he decided to turn down the role.

The singer plays an HIV positive cross dresser in the movie, which also features Jennifer Garner and Matthew McConaughey, and revealed to New York Post gossip column Page Six that his music was a priority when he was asked to take part so wasn't initially interested in the project:

"I haven't been in a film in the past five years because I've been working on my music. My plan was to turn the role down, but it didn't work out."

Last November, Leto shocked fans by sharing images of himself looking incredibly thin after losing a shocking amount of weight for the role and explained that putting his body through such a transformation was incredibly tough: "Your body goes through weird stages. Sometimes it's hard to hold on to water. But for me, it's not about the most weight I can lose, it's more to represent the character."

Speaking to The Wrap about how he shed the weight, Leto recently confessed: "I stopped eating. It wasn’t an easy thing to do. It was 30 or 40 pounds. After a while I stopped counting. It changes the way you walk, the way you sit, the way you think.”

'Dallas Buyers Club' premiered at the Toronto Film Festival over the weekend to great praise and Oscar buzz from critics.
