5 Seconds of Summer: "We did everything we could to be a good, credible band"

5 Seconds of Summer say they have put a lot of hard work into becoming a "credible" band.

The Australians have become global stars over the last twelve months and this year they have enjoyed chart success across the world.

Speaking in a new VEVO interview, the young quartet said that their school peers weren't really on their side when they formed the band.

Michael Clifford said: "[People not caring about the band] kind of drove us. All these people were just saying like, 'You guys suck'."

Ashton Irwin added: "5 Seconds of Summer was just a joke to them. We really worked hard to be a good band. We did everything we could to be a good, credible band."

5 Seconds of Summer meanwhile are currently on tour supporting One Direction in Europe, with North America warm-up dates due to follow later this year.
