5 Seconds of Summer admit they were unsure about supporting One Direction

5 Seconds of Summer have said they weren't initially sure about supporting One Direction on tour.

The band warmed up for the 'Kiss You' stars on their Take Me Home tour in 2013 and they are currently supporting them on their Where We Are jaunt in Europe.

Speaking on ITV's This Morning, drummer Ashton Irwin admitted that they initially thought supporting One Direction might have been a step in the wrong direction.

He said: "That opportunity came and we were unsure because we're nothing like One Direction and it wasn't the type of thing we were going for.

"But we thought if you put both of us up next to each other, people are going to see how different it all is. We can't thank them enough - it's been the craziest one and a half, two years of our lives. We learnt how to be a live band in arenas thanks to them."
