5 Seconds of Summer's Michael Clifford shows frustration at 'boyband' tag

5 Seconds of Summer star Michael Clifford has seemingly shown his frustration at the group being called a boyband.

The Australians channel punk-rock influences with a pop sheen and they play their own instruments.

However, many still call the group a boyband due to their major label status and links with One Direction.

Guitarist Clifford took to Twitter to seemingly opine on the subject, saying:

"Read pages and pages of why our band isnt pop punk #boybandwithinstruments #wut?? #stillgotit #areumad #wearetryingtohelpyou #ETPHONEHOME."

5 Seconds of Summer meanwhile are currently on the cover of UK magazine Rock Sound, which has divided opinion.
