5 Seconds of Summer drummer Ashton Irwin has told fans to "chase" their dreams - just like he did.

The Australian's band are currently on top of the world at the moment following the release of their self-titled debut album.

However, he said on Twitter that he was an average performer in school and didn't have any goals until he focused on music - something which turned his life upside down.

Irwin said: "I was a kid who's biggest aspiration was to at least get a C at high school, things can change if you believe and chase what you love..."

5 Seconds of Summer meanwhile are due to tour North America with One Direction on their Where We Are jaunt from August 1.
