5SOS's Ashton: 'We almost turned down the One Direction tour'

Australian pop-punk stars 5 Seconds Of Summer have revealed that the opportunity to tour with One Direction initially seemed like a bad idea as they were concerned people would assume they were just another boy band.

Speaking to Radio Disney recently, drummer Ashton Irwin confessed that 5SOS almost turned down the chance to tour in support of One Direction because they wanted to be seen as a rock band and we concerned that such a huge pop slot might change that:

"It was all very scary for us because we were a young rock band type of thing. We were very confused by why we would go on tour with One Direction in the first place because it was so different."

"It seemed like a good idea to grow our music and our live performance [skills]," he said. "It would make such a dynamic tour and really explain the difference between the two bands. It's cool that young kids get to go home with a bit of education on rock music."

One Direction's U.S. leg of their Where We Are tour will kick off tonight at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada. 5SOS will provide main support.
