5 Seconds of Summer: 'Just to have guitars on the radio again is nice'

5 Seconds of Summer believe hearing more guitars on the radio is a good thing.

The band come from a pop-punk background and their recent singles have been smash hits across the globe.

Speaking to Billboard, drummer Ashton Irwin said that he hopes the Australians can inspire the next generation of aspiring musicians.

He said: "If a kid picks up drumsticks because of our band, job done. Just to have guitars on the radio again is nice."

The band are currently out on the road supporting One Direction in North America and Irwin added that they won't be getting ahead of themselves anytime soon.

The drummer said: "We need to respect that we’re here to warm up the crowd for the headliner, which has sold out the stadium."
