5 Seconds of Summer say new album success is a 'blessing'

5 Seconds of Summer have reflected on the release of their debut album in North America.

The band unleashed their self-titled maiden record earlier this year in Europe, but it was released in the US on July 22.

It shifted over 250,000 copies to land at No.1 in the States and guitarist Michael Clifford told the Herald Sun that it was a "blessing".

He said: "[When we heard it hit No.1 in the US] we were at our good friends house...who we wrote most of the album with and he produced a lot of it.

"We were waiting that whole week to see what happened. We released it in America, Canada and Mexico all in the one day so it was such a blessing, it is really amazing."

The band meanwhile are currently on tour supporting One Direction in North America.
