5 Seconds of Summer on course to land Best Lyric Video VMA

5 Seconds of Summer are in line to bag the Best Lyric Video prize at this weekend's MTV VMAs.

The band's 'Don't Stop' clip is nominated in the category alongside the likes of Demi Lovato and Ariana Grande.

The winner will be determined by the most number of hashtags on Twitter, Instagram and Vine and today (August 18) 5 Seconds of Summer are leading the way with over 24 million nods.

However, Lovato's 'Really Don't Care' clip is following closely behind with about 100,000 fewer votes.

Austin Mahone's 'MMM Yeah' is in third place with over six million votes.

This year's MTV VMAs meanwhile will take place in Los Angeles on August 24.
