5 Seconds of Summer continue to edge Demi Lovato in Best Lyric Video VMA vote

5 Seconds of Summer are still on course to win the Best Lyric Video prize at this weekend's MTV VMAs.

The band's 'Don't Stop' lyric clip is nominated in the category alongside acts likes Demi Lovato and Ariana Grande.

The winner will be determined by the most number of hashtags on Twitter, Instagram and Vine and today (August 21) 5 Seconds of Summer are in pole position with nearly 41 million votes.

However, Lovato's 'Really Don't Care' clip is less than 300,000 nods behind.

Austin Mahone's 'MMM Yeah' is in third place with nearly seven million votes.

This year's MTV VMAs meanwhile will take place in Los Angeles on Sunday (August 24).

5 Seconds of Summer are scheduled to perform at the glitzy event.
