5 Seconds of Summer enjoy sales surge after MTV VMAs performance

5 Seconds of Summer have seen a rise in sales in the US following their performance at the MTV VMAs.

The Australians played the track 'Amnesia' at the awards ceremony on Sunday (August 24) and they also won the Best Lyric Video prize for 'Don't Stop'.

Billboard reports that US sales of 'Amnesia' rose by 85% in the aftermath of the star-studded event.

Their self-titled debut album, which was released in America in July before hitting No.1, saw sales go up by 35%.

However, their figures are dwarfed by the VMAs' main performer Beyoncé, whose track 'XO' enjoyed a sales jump of 1,648%.

Her 2013 self-titled album meanwhile rose from No.40 to No.7 on the US iTunes chart.

The US star won the coveted Video Vanguard award at the VMAs and she performed a prolonged set on the night.
