5 Seconds of Summer drummer Ashton Irwin has opened up about his friendship with Niall Horan.

The Australians have supported One Direction on numerous tours over the last two years and they have struck up a bond.

Speaking in the Hot Guy issue of Seventeen, Irwin said that he particularly found common ground with Horan when it came to rock.

He said: "He comes from a cool family, and he's a really genuine dude. He's got a good sense of humour and he loves rock bands. We really bond over that."

It was confirmed meanwhile by Billboard recently that One Direction have a financial stake in 5 Seconds of Summer.

The two acts share the same management team, who are also reportedly involved in the scheme.
