5SOS want to make their parents proud: 'It must be a nightmare when your son starts a band'

Last night, Australian heartthrobs 5 Seconds Of Summer picked up the Song of the Year prize for their effort 'She Looks So Perfect' at the 2014 ARIAs.

The group's drummer, Ashton Irwin, confessed that the owe a lot of their success to their parents for being so supportive and encouraging of their collective dream:

"It means a lot to our parents, too. It's been a lot of overseas stuff, but when we come home and do things like this it really means a lot to them."

"To make them proud and stuff like that is a really cool thing for us. When your son starts a band, it's a nightmare... I don't think anyone wants that, rather than going to uni!"

Michael Clifford explained that he's overwhelmed by the ARIAs win and is excited to think about how far they've come so far: "To win an ARIA is really... when you're from Australia, the ARIAs is like... it's so prestigious and so incredible. I can't put it into words to be honest with you."
