5SOS on going from playing to 30 fans to selling out arenas: 'We never expected this, but we had faith'

Aussie heartthrobs 5 Seconds Of Summer have revealed that they're incredibly surprised at how much popularity they have earned because they started off playing to a handful of people in their native country.

Michael Clifford and Luke Hemmings recently spoke to Capricho about their phenomenal rise to fame and confessed that they went from playing to a room filled with 30 fans to arenas and stadiums where thousands of people watch them perform.

Frontman Hemmings explained that after playing arenas in support of One Direction, they told themselves they would return as headliners one day and this faith and self-belief kept them motivated:

"It's going to be incredible to do an arena tour. The second support tour we did was in arenas... I remember going on stage and us saying to each other, 'we're going to be back here next year', and not knowing that we would be, so it's awesome."

Guitarist Michael Clifford added: "When we started we never expected this. I remember the first tour we put on sale - we put on shows in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne in Australia. The first two shows we did, around 30 people turned up."
