5 Seconds of Summer win Australia songwriting award

5 Seconds of Summer have won a prize at this year's APRA Music Awards.

The Australian ceremony, which was held today (March 24), honours the country's top songwriting talent.

Pop-punks 5 Seconds of Summer bagged the Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year gong.

The night's main prizes were picked up Sia, who won Songwriter of the Year and Song of the Year for 'Chandelier'.

Sheppard meanwhile bagged Most Played Australian Work and Pop Work of the Year for their hit single 'Geronimo'.

Other winners included Pharrell Williams' 'Happy' (International Work of the Year) and 'Somebody That I Used To Know' by Gotye (Most Played Australian Work Overseas).
