5SOS receive gushing praise from NY Post music critic

Australian pop-punk band 5 Seconds Of Summer have just dropped their new album 'Sounds Good Feels Good' and the offering has been incredibly well received from all corners of the music world.

A reporter for the New York Post has now written an article about the snobbery that often comes with being a rock music critic and confessed that 5SOS's new record has made him proud to announce his stance as a fan of theirs:

"Rock critics are always asked, “What good bands have you seen lately?” Answer “5 Seconds of Summer,” as I’ve only recently begun to do, and most people respond as if I’d just endorsed Vladimir Putin for president."

"At first, after seeing them at MetLife Stadium last year, I kept my fandom under wraps. But with Friday’s release of the band’s “Sounds Good Feels Good,” I’m out for good. And ready to declare 5 Seconds one of the most radical bands on the charts."

Writer Hardeep Phull continues: "Music snobs sneer at the Aussie quartet, but the idea of them as a manufactured boy band with guitars is wrong. Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford and Calum Hood, all 19, and Ashton Irwin, 21, play their own instruments and, for the most part, wrote the songs for “Sounds Good Feels Good” themselves. They’re also the only guitar band on the Billboard Top 40 — no ghostwritten pop tunes or anonymous dance tracks from these guys."

He concludes the article by explaining that it's great to see a young band that might expose fans to older alternative bands: "Lovers of punk-pop music shouldn’t hate on 5 Seconds of Summer for being a watered-down Weezer, they should celebrate them for keeping the genre visible and opening the door for curious young fans. The 12-year-olds singing merrily to their songs today might be Green Day fans by 14, Clash fans by 16, and, at 18, rocking out in their own bands."
