5 Seconds of Summer pick their top rock and punk influences

5 Seconds of Summer have opened up about some of their biggest influences in rock and punk.

While a mainstream proposition as a result of their big production and melodic sheen, the Australians are well-known for their love of rock.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the quartet picked some of their top influences in the genre, as well as acts who are currently floating their boat.

Speaking about All Time Low, bassist Calum Hood said: "I have a lot of respect for this band because when I was about 15 or 16, I really admired Alex's songwriting. I always tried to write a song like 'Jasey Rae' or 'Stay Awake'.

"Those were the two songs I always tried to replicate in any way. But now I really think they're trying to evolve with rock music and pop music, which is really cool to see. Obviously, it's working out because they're playing arenas and getting a lot more airtime, which is really good to see."

The band also picked acts such as The Used, Yellowcard, State Champs, Good Charlotte and INXS.

Also given nods were Green Day, Sugarcult and Mayday Parade.

5 Seconds of Summer meanwhile released their second album 'Sounds Good Feels Good' on Friday (October 23).
